“I need you to watch while I interview him again. And Frees. I’m going to wait until the good Doctor is having dinner and then call him away… make sure I’m interrupting. That tends to irritate people. And if he is what I think he may be? I think keeping him focused on my dumb ass may be best for anyone involved in looking into him.”

Mardusk, CoS

Cara nodded, “Where can I watch from? Preferable views where I can see him from the front and above.” Them she smiled very sweetly at him, “Yeah okay, you keep his creeper attention on you. He tries something you break bones, or I will. Okay?”

O’Farrell

Gravel looked at her in all seriousness and said “If he is what I think we are thinking… we are going to have to be very careful. Because one whiff we are suspicious and he will up and vanish like smoke in the wind.”

Mardusk

Cara was staring at the photos of the women. “Maybe, would he leave his wife and son? She can’t just disappear, she has orders…” She was musing out loud not really asking him, “and would he leave his son behind? More likely a stand off, he would want to take them with him and if it wasn’t easy…even a mouse is deadly when cornered.”

Mardusk shook his head. “I dunno… something tells me he’d drop them in a heartbeat if it meant saving his own skin. Predators aren’t much for family ties.”

Cara drummed her fingers, “got any officers that look close enough and can pose as an engineering Lt?” Cara was about the right height, she could dye her hair too, but she doubted she had the engineering knowledge necessary to be convincing. “What’s your excuse to get him back in here? He’s already determined you have no cause to interview him.”

O’Farrell

Mardusk shook his head. “No, but I am running a facial recognition search through Fleet to see if I can come up with some candidates to use as bait.” He used the term without flinching or even seeming to give it a thought. “And as far as an excuse? See, thats the great part of my job. I actually work under two sets of rules. One he is definitely aware of. But what he doesn’t seem to be aware of is a little known regulation that states a Starship Security Chief has, while underway or deployed outside Federation space, the right and authority to suspend any or all legal rights or restrictions in order to conduct and investigation involving harm or threat of harm to the ship and / or crew. Now… I have to justify that suspension to the Captain before I can use it. Unless, of course, the investigation concerns the Captain. But yeah… I can yank him outta dinner just because I want to. Now, I just need you to help me prep my questions and help me guide the interrogation.”

Mardusk, CoS

Cara contemplated, wishing she was at the end of her forensic program and not the end. “I would start with focusing on Lt Frees and that altercation. He doesn’t like to be challenged and will assert what he sees as his superiority, and then attempt to storm out again. If he can’t leave it will up the risk but it will throw him off.”

Mardusk thought for a moment and then grinned. He tapped the desk comms and said =/\= Security to Engineering. I’m gonna need you to cut the power to Interrogation 3 door when I say. Prep for around 1900 hours today. Thank you. =/\=

“Start easy, make him mad/exasperated, tell him charges might be filled, but you need his cooperation, you want to clear up the situation and get it closed. He will be irritated and irate. Focus on getting the details from him about Frees, how it started, build up to why her, why he felt the need to discuss with her. If we can get him worked up enough we can ask about Gomez.” Cara was still staring at the photo of his wife…what did she know?

O’Farrell

Mardusk nodded. “Ok… you’ll observe with one my Security officers. I think some covert comms may be necessary as well. You can feed me questions to ask, help me keep him off balance. That is, at least until he realizes what we are doing and then he slams shut. Which will happen. I just have to keep him thinking I’m stupid long enough to get a thread we can pull on.”

Mardusk, CoS

“That’s probably the best way. We can prep questions all day long, but no battle plans survive contact with the enemy.” Cara drummed her fingers against her leg. “So he’s not going to come willingly, he might try to make you think he is, but he’s not. So once you get him in the room, offer him a drink, hell offer him food if you want, don’t directly apologize for dragging him away from dinner, tell him you want to resolve the whole situation before it escalates more. He’ll be watching to see if you’re lying, and that’s not a lie, just a twist on perception that he’s not aware of yet. And sit, don’t stand, he’ll be more willing to sit and ‘relax’ if you do as well. We need him to tell us exactly what he said and how he acted. Make something up…too much noise in the lounge so the audio on the video was bad.” After that it would all depend on Greenlee’s answers and behaviors.

O’Farrell, CNS

Mardusk nodded and said “Sounds like we have a path. Tell you what… I’m gonna have my guys go get him at 1800 and bring him in. And then… I’m gonna let him sit. Alone. For an hour. Then I’ll go in and make excuses. He doesn’t seem the type to take kindly to being kept waiting. I’ll ask questions, as you said. Then when he hits the point he decides to leave, we cut the power to the door. I won’t be holding him against his will, it will literally be a mechanical thing. And unless he actually asks me if I turned off the power, I won’t say anything. If he does, I can honestly say I didn’t. Engineering will have done that.”

Mardusk, CoS

“Too bad we can’t get Frees to come in and fix it. She doesn’t even have to actually work on it, because nothing is wrong with the door, she would just need to yell through the door and claim to be working on it and then disappear. But not right away, more of a last resort if we can’t get him to talk anyway. I want to watch him while he waits.” Cara checked the time, they had plenty until he sent his officers to pick up Greenlee. Over planning/thinking could put them too strict to ‘their plan’ and create opportunities for mistakes, and they didn’t want to do that. Cara kept coming back to the wife though and what she might know or suspect. Cara also had the feeling her blue medical uniform was the only thing protecting her at the moment. Or maybe the woman was dense and had no clue at all.

O’Farrell, CNS

Mardusk watched Cara’s wheels turn and then he said “You want to talk to his wife, don’t you?” and he grinned.

Mardusk, CoS

“I do, because she’s either so besotted with him she can’t see it, or she’s trapped in the situation and doesn’t know how to get out without him hurting her or their child. She’s a doctor, so she’s trained to see the signs of abuse but it can be hard to recognize and admit in ourselves. And if he’s angry enough he might take his anger at you and Frees out on her.” She looked up at him, “Often the spouse knows or suspects that something is wrong, and can even point out the clues even if they can’t put it all together.”

O’Farrell, CNS

“And often in cases like this, the suspect is so adept at hiding their true nature not even the person they are married to knows who they really are. So she may legit not know a damn thing… but if we ask her about it, it may put her at risk. And the child.” and Mardusk shrugged. “I mean, if you feel its necessary I won’t argue. But you need to be sure.” and then he snapped his fingers and pointed at Cara. “You just got here. Gotta do on-boarding, right? Sooo… bump her up. Talk to her on your turf. Its not like Greenlee knows we are working on him together. Hell, even if he finds out we are… well… you know… than he would only have a slight reason to be suspicious. After all, you can’t talk to me about what happens in your sessions unless there is a danger to life or limb. And its not like I blab about ongoing cases, right? So… just geta read on her from your standard assessment. Thoughts on that, then.”

Mardusk, CoS

She looked up at him with an amused quirked brow, “Believe it or not I’m aware of tha’ bit of psychology.” Then she puffed out a breath, “I’m no sure it’s necessary, but I would really like ta talk to her. She may not know anything but she and her child may still be at risk anyway.” It was good compromise, what he was suggesting. “The problem with movin’ her up is she’s medical, if she’s a month or more out she’ll be suspicious. There are too many people on this ship to be able to move someone up that far. And she’ll know to get move up tha’ fast, somethin’ is wrong.” There was also the possibility she was aware and a part of it. Slim but always a possibility they couldn’t discard till they knew for sure. She reached over to the screen and tapped at it and then grinned. “She’s due for her eval in three weeks.” Then she checked the current update for medical. =/\=O’Farrell to Shan. Yvonne I’ve got open time in an hour, there are a couple of medical ensigns due for their evals in a couple weeks. Sickbay is slow today, let’s get them today.=/\= =/\=Sure thing Lt. Should I tell Royo you need an escort in half an hour?=/\= Cara grinned, she just couldn’t find the energy to be mad, =/\=No, you do not. Leave that poor lad alone ta-day.=/\=

“I should be done before you send anyone for Greenlee.”

O’Farrell, CNS

Mardusk nodded and stood up and went to a wall panel. He looked at an optical reader and the panel slid open. Hios massive frame blocked the way, but when he turned he had a Type-1 phaser in his hand. “Here. This is your ‘just in case’. I’ll make sure the system knows you are authorized to carry it.”
