Kelly reclined at her desk with her booted feet up on the edge of her desk. This was not generally a position she could use since she always wore a skirt instead of the pants most women in her position chose. Kelly never understood the need for a woman to fit in or look like a man in her field. She wasn’t a man. She was a woman so why not dress like one and still run in the boys club. The music in her earphones blared loudly as her foot tapped out a rhythm. Kelly could not carry a tune if it had a handle but that did not mean she did not sing. She just kept the music up loud enough to drown out her own voice.

Kelly Bordeaux

As the Captain continued to tap along, the music would suddenly stop. “Oh, El Capitan!” A voice boomed through her headphones, “Not very ladylike of you.” The voice on the other end laughed. Captain Bordeaux would immediately recognize the voice, as Q, from her lessons during the academy.

Kelly sat straight up which of course caused her ankles to separate before she quickly put her legs down.

“Oh pain in the ass. What are you doing in my office,” Kelly stood up looking around her office. Just because she could not see the man didn’t mean he wasn’t there. “LMNOP too busy to play?”

“Poor Captain Andone couldn’t tame this one,” Q snickered, through the Captain’s headphones, “But maybe you can!” Kelly would be able to hear an audible snap in the background. Appeared before her, a Starfleet Lieutenant Commander, about 27 years of age. Bordeaux would somewhat deem the man familiar, maybe from a report 8 years ago, but she’d have to dig through Starfleet records if she had the clearance.

The reference to Captain Andone, made Kelly looked at the man now standing in her office with a different lens. Captain Andone was someone Kelly respected the hell out of. As a Captain Andone was loyal, intelligent, and dedicated. She was someone Kelly strived to be like. Looking at the man, his face looked vaguely familiar. Not someone she had gone to the academy with. The man was too young for that but maybe he was an XO or in the dipcorp. She didn’t say anything but waited for the man to reply or Q to give another cryptic answer.

“Oh, and Trainor,” Q boomed, “This is a gift from me to you!” Another audible snap could be heard. The Captain would see the now named, Lieutenant Commander Trainor turn from a seasoned 27-year-old man to a fresh-eyed 19-year-old. “Or, maybe a curse!”

Just then the music in the Captain’s ears returned to normal, the only difference now, was the young Lieutenant Commander standing in front of her.

“Coffee,” Kelly said not sure what else to say for the moment. People showed up unexpectedly all the time in her office but never quite like this.

Kelly Bordeaux CO

Tenzing was too stunned at the moment to respond to Bordeaux. Looking around, Trainor thought Q might have dropped him off at some antique museum had it not been for the uniform of the woman standing before him. Looking at his hands, then arms, it appeared that Q had turned him back a few years. Gone were the stress wrinkles and scars from his years on the Ark Angel and Chimera; Tenzing could only imagine he had been transformed back to his late teens or early twenties.

=/\= Captain, this is Nash =/\= A gruff, unpleasant sounding voice that sounded like it had something stick between his lips in the corner of his mouth came through the comm.

=/\= Hey chief =/\= Kelly said in a calm but song song voice.

=/\= I just got a real weird energy spike from your Ready Room, but it’s gone now. Is everything okay up there or are you messing with my replicators again to try and bypass your coffee ration? =/\=

Lt Cmdr Ethan Nash, CE

=/\= Well that is refreshing. I thought I was hitting your private stick a little two hard. Turns out it’s just another over achieving senior trying to come up with something for the science fair to get them I to the Daystrom institute. Oh and that energy spike…Can you pin point the origin of the spike?=/\=

=/\= About six feet in front of your Desk, Cap. Didn’t come from anywhere else, no outside disturbance, just that point in front of your desk then gone =/\=

Turning her attention to the man in her office. “First off don’t try to be an over achiever. Have a little fun. You know I always give recommendations to graduating seniors and second off who are your parents. You know you shouldn’t really be dorking around with the transporters.” Kelly was more than a little annoyed. Teenagers sucked and the smart ones were always trying to out do each other especially during science fair time.

Kelly Bordeaux

Sitting down she waved her hand over the replicator Drayke had made her and waited for the young man to get his bearings.

Tenzing snapped back to reality at the sound of the Captain’s voice. “Excuse me, but I was born in 2361, where do you come off asking for my parents?” The Lieutenant Commander realized that his point was moot as he did, in fact, appear to look like a second-year Cadet. It was bad enough that Trainor had been pushed ten years into the future aboard the Albert Einstein, but he wasn’t about to let Q get the best of him. One thing did come across his mind though, how was he to tell his parents. Afterall, it was bad enough coming home to his twin brother being 10 years older, now Ryan would be 18 years older.

=/\= Transporters show no trace of being used Captain =/\= The voice of Nash, still gruff and still on the line sounded again. =/\= If some twerp has been fooling with my systems I’m gonna have them on sanitation duty for a week. Don’t care if they are a civvie, I’ll stick my boot up their donkey behind just as fast. =/\=

“See what your little stunt did. It done peeved of my chief,” Kelly said to the kid. “I am going to say however I am rather intrigued on three thing. One that you were able to imitate Q so well on my Spacify playlist. Two,” she held up a second finger, “is how you got past Nash, and three,” she picked up her coffee.

Kelly took a long sip of her coffee and listened to the young man speak. “You look amazing for being 37,” she said nodding. “Tell me do you use Nivea or Estee Lauder night cream because your crow’s feet are non-existent.” She could not help but find some amusement in the situation. This kid was persistent however they were not dirt side. It was not like he could sneak off and no one find him. They were in a ship in the middle of space so finding where he lived and who he belonged to would not take long.

“Wanna go for double Jeopardy where the scores can really change,” she asked the kid. “How about I am sorry skipper and my parents are for two thousand,” she took another sip of her coffee.

“And second, where exactly am I?” Trainor asked. Tenzing couldn’t help but wonder what type of Captain this woman was as if just didn’t see him flash here by Q, and then transform into a younger self, and just be okay with all of it.

After a few moments, Trainor raised his brows and shrugged his shoulders as if he was waiting for an answer.

Trainor

“Where do you think you are,” Kelly asked with an amused expression. “Look kid its been fun but call you mom. I got things to do,” she said. When Q showed up things were never just a pop in.

Kelly Bordeaux

Tenzing groaned internally; she was turning his situation into a joke. Her amusement about the whole ordeal was starting to put him into sensory overload. Trainor took a moment to fully take in the scenery, what of most he wouldn’t recognize due to their ancient aroma. He was surprised there weren’t rodents running around.

“Just take me to Starbase 243 or the Meridian Station.” The, now young officer, replied. Obviously, this woman was out of her mind, and gosh only knows when she had a psych eval last. That at least, Tenzing couldn’t blame her. He himself couldn’t stand to be around a shrink more than the next person, but he had his reasons.

“Your girlfriend there,” she asked taking another sip of her coffee and mentally writing up her recommendation for this kid. Blankety Blank is highly creative..no creative is a boring word. Blankety Blank is innovative with sui generis way of solving problems, she rambled off in her head. While this kid was going to create a mound of paperwork, she was impressed with him.

“I’m a Lieutenant Commander, not some groggaling half-witted Cadet!” Trainor rolled his eyes at the mess he was in at the moment, but held himself from busting out of the room to see what assistance this Captain could provide.

Trainor

Kelly tapped her badge =/\=Cara can you come to my office please =/\= As much as she was enjoying this little stunt, she had work to do.

Looking at the kid in front of her Kelly sighed. “What’s your name kid,” Kelly said waiting for the counselor to show up.

Kelly Bordeaux

Trainor simply stared at the Captain; she was enjoying this. The Lieutenant Commander cursed and sighed lowly. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Tenzing Trainor.” He stated and motioned towards the PC on the CO’s desk. “Go ahead and look me up in the Starfleet database, I’m sure you’ll find I’m no kid.” Tenzing was feeling a bit impatient at the little help the Captain was providing him. Q had zapped him to god knows where, and this woman’s first instinct is to call someone named Cara.

The name sounded very familiar. Kelly knew she had read something on that name but for the life of her, she couldn’t immediately recall it.

Cara was in between appointments at the time. =/\=On my wah Captain.=/\= She stepped out of her office and nodded to Yvonne, “Cap’s summoned me. Oy! Royo!” her security shadow had to be around somewhere. The man appeared from around the corner. “Where we headed Lt?” “I’m goin’ the bridge, which I can find. You can stah here and flirt with Yvonne. Just donnae want another man hunt and lecture from your chief because I didnae tell my baby sitter where I was goin’.” Yvonne and Royo laughed and Cara left and took the lift to the bridge and over to the ready room door and pressed the chime. See she told Gravel she’d figure it out eventually....kind of. Once the chime was answered, Cara stepped in.

O’Farrell

“I can assure you I’m no sideshow piece,” Trainor exclaimed as he turned to the door after hearing the chime. “So, please, just drop me off at the nearest Starbase, or give me a shuttle.”

Nash, CE

“You know what. Get your mom or dad up here with your license and registration along with a signed permission slip and the shuttle is yours,” Kelly said off-hand bringing up the database. She did not actually believe this kid was this Trainor. She was looking him up to see why the name sounded so familiar. Pausing as her computer came online, she debated on whether she should use Gaggle or Bang for the search. Gaggle was the main go-to but Bang’s daily images were so much better.

Kelly Bordeaux

Cara took in the captain, who looked long suffering and too busy to deal with whatever this was, and a young man in a Lt Cmdr’s ops uniform. Who’s body language conveyed far more maturity than a teenager should, and eyes that conveyed extreme amounts of frustration and perhaps edging on anger…but Cara wasn’t sure about that one yet. What she was sure of was things were boiling beneath the surface and the heat needed to be turned down. “Reporting as ordered, Captain.”

O’Farrell

Trainor took a quick glance at the newcomer and then turned back to the Captain. “I don’t need a babysitter!” Trainor exclaimed, hoping these charades would end once and for all. It was bad enough that Q whisked him off to wherever he was, turned him back into someone he longed to forget, and now he was possibly staring down an avenue to the looney bin.

It was getting obvious to Tenzing that he was in a no win conversation; this Captain appeared to be in the mood to win every scenario. Trainor could only imagine how he had gone from doing routine maintenance on a runabout to being thrown into this clown house. The Lieutenant Commander was at a loss on what to do next, so the next best thing to do was nothing. He’d have to remain quiet and see what this woman, Cara, was there for.

Trainor
OPS

Cara’s eyes widened and her brows went up at his emphatic statement. He went from terse outburst to intense observation. Either this person was young and experienced beyond his years due to extreme life circumstances or something else was going on. Either way he was right, he didn’t need a baby sitter.

“Come,” Kelly called out reading the bio on the name of the individual the kid in front of her gave her. She continued to read the information on the bio and every once in a while cast a side glance at the kid. Kelly could not deny there was a resemblance. She could also not deny the sound of Q’s voice pumping through her headphones or the fact there seemed to be no point of origin from the transporter signature. Still, the last thing she wanted to report was that there was a Q sitting and it turned out to be some high school prank.

“Cara,” Kelly turned to greet the woman at her door. “Just the woman I wanted to see.”

Kelly Bordeaux CO

Cara nodded to Bordeaux coming to a stop a few paces equa-distance from both people. “How can I assist ye Captain?”

O’Farrell

Kelly leaned back in her seat with half a frown. Picking up her coffee, she took a long sip glancing at the kid in her office and then back at the computer console. “I have a problem and in either scenario, I think you are going to be needed. Have a seat,” she gestured to one of the open ones in front of her. “So about five minutes ago this young man,” she gestured to Tenzig beamed into my office. At first, I thought he was just one of our overactive seniors. The science fair is next week and while you have not been here during that oh so lovely time you are in for a treat. It is when we are overrun by plaster of Paris volcanos and the insane race for the covets recommendation for slots at the Daystrom Institute, Starfleet Academy, the Vulcan Science Institute. Fun times,” Kelly’s expression did not relay that she actually enjoyed the experience. “Last year Ensign Digby had all his facial hair burned off and the year before that we had all the judges pass out when the aromatherapy chemistry experiment mimicked the effects of ansestine. So,” Kelly clapped her hands together. “You will see why my first thought when I found the young man standing in my office, it was an engineering experiment gone wrong. “

“The young gentleman however is not claiming he is an overly intelligent senior looking for his recommendation but this man,” Kelly spun the screen around. “Tenzig Trainor who is thirty-six years old and currently assigned to the USS Ark Angel.” Kelly let her words hang in the air.

Kelly Bordeaux CO

OOC: I just want to mention here, so everyone is aware…I play Sharah Fayth who was the CSO on Ark Angel at the time that they last Q incident happened there. She served with Tenzing.

IC: O’Farrell listened while the captain sort of explained what was going on, in a very round about way. Cara looked at the man when the captain mentioned the Ark Angel. “On my way ‘ere, I had a lengthy layover at Starbase 21. I worked with a young jr Lt while I was dere. She’d just been transferred from de Ark Angel for psychological and medical evaluation.” She turned to Trainor. “She was yer CSO.” She turned back to the captain, “De USS Ark Angel has only just returned from de very very far regions of our galaxy. So far in fact dat their location, until they returned, couldn’t be mapped. They were sent dere by Q.”

“Confirmin’ his identity would be a cinch, Captain. A simple scan by Dr Evrilla would prove his identity.”

Tenzing was a bit relieved to see the Captain finally grasp what he has been trying to tell her all along. Sure, he could have been a failed engineering experiment, but those type of people ended up gassing a room full of children, not turning himself into a teenager.

“So what are you going to do with me, Captain?” Trainor asked, turning to the CO once more. “Certainly you’d be able to drop me off at the nearest starbase, yes?” As the words left his mouth, Tenzing’s senses perked up. This woman had been evading any questions pertaining to her sending him home. “Tell me Captain, what’s the name of this ship and where are we?”

Trainor
Ops

O’Farrell looked back and forth between the two. No matter how young this man looked, his voice, body language, and his eyes told a different story. He didn’t know where he was and the captain hadn’t told him? It wasn’t like Atlantis was a covert ship. “Obviously somethin’ has happened to Lt Cmdr Trainor te ‘ave lost so much age. A medical evaluation be point of order to ensure his health.” Cara wanted to get him moving. Standing here debating if he was who he said he was, would not get anyone any answers. Confirming his identity as Lt Cmdr Tenzing Trainor was simple. It would also stop him from being called an overzealous high school senior.

O’Farrell

“Agreed,” Kelly said. “I have sent a communication to let Andone know we have one of her flock and,” she started before another chime at the door cut her off. The person did not wait to be asked to be let in but strode in like she own the place.

“Oh my god,” Lauren said excitedly before repeating her exclamaition with a bit more confusion. “Oh my god.” Looking at Tenzig up and down she did not need the tricorder. “Tenzig Trainor…what the hell happened to you? Are you like El Aurian or something.”

“It’s def a small world after all, isn’t it?” Trainor asked rhetorically when Lauren entered the Ready Room. “When you mess with Q, you pay the price I guess,” Tenzing stated. It’s been a while since he saw anyone he last served with since the Ark Angel was on a deep space mission for most of his time there. The last time he saw the Doc, they were both Lieutenants, and well, Trainor was the age he looked now.

Moving across the room, Lauren scanned him with a smile. “Last time I saw you we were playing hypo tag with Devon Rand in the USS Chimera,” she laughed. “If I remember it was your turn.” It had been years since she had met the man but Lauren rarely forgot a face. Their meeting was also unique which helped her not forget the man.

“After we saved the lost Cadet in the Andromeda Galaxy, Starfleet Command had me assigned to the AA,” Trainor replied. That period was definitely a dark time for the Lieutenant Commander, and it wasn’t until recently that he started to feel like his old self again. Beyond the routine deep space missions, Trainor didn’t think he’d ever have to experience being thrown into distant galaxies.

“I do remember you gassing all of the children though, ” Tenzing laughed, as Lauren finished up her scans. To be honest, Trainor felt more at ease being around someone he knew and somewhat trusted. Surely Q had a reason for sending him to whatever ship he was on now, and hopefully, he finds the answer soon.

“Better than the talking option and I stand by that,” Lauren laughed looking at Kelly and then Cara. “What Tenzig didn’t mention,” she looked back at Trainor, “is that it was a terrorist situation. Some madman locked himself in a classroom with a bunch of kids and wired the room with explosives and the timer was counting down. Security and counseling wanted to talk the man down. The kids were terrified and setting the man off. He was clearly unbalanced. I saw that the man missed the air vents so I popped in anestine and knocked everyone out. This let the bomb squad near the mechanism and everyone was freed in under ten seconds. I honestly never understood why the COS and counselor cared more for the well being of the man over the kids. I mean the guy was waving about a phaser at kids. Anyway I wasn’t going to take a chance some kid died and still end up with the same conclusion of the man being taken into custody in the end. That however is why I am known as the gassy doctor,” she rolled her eyes with a smile at Trainor.

Clicking off the device she looked at Kelly. “It is Tenzig Trainor all right but I will need a full medical workup when you are done here. His readings show he is healthy as a horse but it wouldn’t hurt to get some baseline medical labs.”

“I will send him down when he is done here,” Kelly took another sip of her coffee and motioned for Tenzig to take a seat along with Cara.

“Ask for Evrilla,” Lauren said to Tenzig. “I am actually off duty after this house call but she is the CMO and amazing. You will love her. After you’re done stop by our quarters. I know Rand and I would love to catch up. Kelly…Cara,” she nodded and left the room.

“From what I can see of your service record he has found you on both the USS Chimera and USS Ark Angel as attested by both Lt. Shan and Cara’s acquaintance Lt. j.g. Fayth. So any reason why Q seems to have taken such a fancy to you, Commander,” Kelly asked. She had no doubt the young man might need a more in-depth exploration of this topic with Cara however when Q was involved it never was good. If there was some precipitous event that cause this, Kelly wanted to know sooner rather than later.

Kelly Bordeaux

Trainor shrugged at the Captain’s question, Tenzing wasn’t sure himself why Q had always made it his priority to bother with him. “We’ve had our encounters during my Cadet cruise back in the 70s,” Lieutenant Commander Trainor stated, “Let’s just say he was more than willing to poke fun at our situation than to assist them in our time of need.” What Trainor wasn’t telling the Captain was that Q was really helpful without violating the continuum, and even assisted Tenzing with locating a Cadet that was left behind in the Andromeda Galaxy. It’s a wonder how much of the story was still classified after several Starfleet ships including the Crusader, Merrimack, Chimera, and Ark Angel were involved, but it was the Albert Einstein that took the brunt of everything the Harvesters had to throw at them.

Trainor
OPS

“I get that but you have no clue why you,” she pushed further with a confused look on her face. She did not doubt Trainor or what he shared. Q seemed to have a penchant for picking a person and being a pain in their ass for years sometimes. The person that always came to mind was Picard and the Enterprise. There had been a long history with Q and that crew culminating in Q introducing them to the Borg. This was exactly what Kelly was hoping to avoid. For Q to be bored and use Trainor to launch the Atlantis crew into a situation they had were ill-prepared for. The galaxy was an infinitely large place. There were plenty of star systems holding enemies bigger and badder than the Federation. The current situation with the alien visitors was the most recent nasty surprise. “Does he ask you to do something or has it been for fun?”

Kelly Bordeaux

Cara took a seat and listened quietly. Asking Trainor why Q had taken a liking to him was a futile question. Q had taken a liking to lots of different individuals over the years and if anything she would say his attitude was one of a scientist that didn’t mean to get emotionally attached to the lab animals, but did. He had put humanity on trial, given them trials over and over again, sought refuge when his powers were taken away, taken a romantic liking to an archeologist that was also a thief and untrustworthy, had a child that he put into the hands of humans to raise, and many many more. There was no telling Q’s motivations. And honestly if it was her Q had taken a liking to and she knew the reason, she wasn’t sure she’d share it.

O’Farrell

Trainor shrugged once more. He could tell that the Captain was nervous with Q having brought him, and he was skeptical that Q wouldn’t make a return in the near future.
It was a bit difficult to explain how Q operates if one has never encountered them, but they weren’t dangerous in the malevolent sense.

“I wish I could give you an answer, but I can’t,” Tenzing stated. “Sure, they can be mischievous and abrasive, but in the end, we succeed in what we need to without an issue.” Trainor was beginning to sense there wasn’t something that the Captain was telling him, however. Q knows how to get under Trainor’s skin, and the most devilish thing he’d be able to do, was to send him off into some distant corner of the galaxy with no quick way home.

Trainor
OPS

Hearing a beep on her console, pulled Kelly’s attention from Trainor. She gave the console a scathing look before directing her gaze back to Trainor. “Well Lt. Commander Tenzig Trainor welcome aboard,” she stook up and extended her hand. “I hate to do this but something just came up so why don’t you head down to medical and have Lauren or Evrilla give you the once over and update your file. I will send someone to meet you from there with your bunking assignment. I am sure Cara can find some time for you in the next week or so to update that file too. If you need anything or have any questions I have an open door policy which you already seem to have a knack for employing.” Her comment was good natured and punctuated by a half laugh. She had had several unique meetings with her senior staff. Falling off a ladder and being caught by Mardusk, driving like they were part of the cast of the fast and furious XX with Ian and Nash, and Tenzig popping in like Casper the ghost only added to the long line of interesting encounters.

“Commander, Lieutenant,” she nodded to Tenzig and then Cara she casually dismissed them from her office as she turned back to the console to activate the incoming transmission.
