Kelly walked over to the small kitchen area and lifted a lid to one of the pans simmering on the stove. “Hey, babe can I,” Kelly called out picking up a spoon before feeling a hand wrap around her waist and kissing her cheek.

“Go make sure the table is set and just hang out there. Absolutely,” Ian nodded and pushed her out of the way finishing her question with one of his own. While Ian trusted Kelly with his life, he did not trust her with any culinary exploits.

“You know I can do more than just sit around drinking before Evrilla and Malcolm arrive,” Kelly let out a laugh taking a seat at the table and taking a drink of her beer.

“Yeah but should you? Should you really,” Ian teased his wife blowing her a kiss. He had to wrap up dinner. Malcolm and Evrilla would be here any minute and he did not want to be actively cooking when they arrived.

Ronar stood outside the door that Evrilla had led him to. He was excited to meet the Captain and finally start his new life aboard the Atlantis but whatever thrill he was feeling was buried beneath many layers of nerves and (going even deeper) distrust. It had been a long time since he’d ever encountered a leader who stabbed him in the back but still, even years after the end of the Occupation, his hand still shook whenever in the presence of a superior officer who had his life in their hands.
‘Chill out, Ronar,’ he told himself, ‘Evrilla said the Captain is a fine woman. She’s nothing like the Cardassians… probably.’
“Well,” he said, taking a deep breath and pushing his hesitations out of his mind, “Here goes nothing!”

The chime of the doorbell was not the typical three soft chirps of most doors. Instead what rang out was the bong-type sound of an old boat horn used most often when ships at sea were lost in a thick fog. Inside the room, there were muffled sounds of someone coming to the door and at least two people talking.

He pressed the buzzer to announce his presence and curtly marched through the door once he was given permission to enter.

“Well I don’t know who changed it but I am sure it had to be Jacen or Ethan as payback for the field trip or the E-dog comment,” Kelly yelled over her shoulder as she opened the door. She was dressed casually in a pair of jeans and a green t-shirt that said Captian of Shenanigans.

“Captain Bordeaux!” He exclaimed, his arm shooting up to salute her, “It’s an honor to meet you.”

Kelly let out a small laugh seeing the Ensign saluting her and the bold greeting. Looking over her shoulder at Ian, she waved a hand at Ronar. “No more Wednesday night poker games with you and the senior staff,” she yelled at her husband. A bout of laughter erupted from Ian in the back of the room letting Kelly know Ian and what she referred to as the boys were up to something.

Turning to face Ronar the amused smile and shaking of her head showed that although she was sharing a private joke of some sort with her husband, Kelly did find humor in it. “At ease Ronar. We don’t salute much around here…or ever really. Come in come in,” she gestured with the beer in one of her hands and stepped back from the door.

“Sorry about the bell. Engineering on this ship is not as straight-laced in their downtime as in some places. That bell was payback for something I did to them. Just wait until you meet Nash and Drayke. You will see,” she laughed moving father into the space.

“I’d be willing to take a look at it, Captain. After I check in with Lt. Commander Nash, of course.” He stepped inside, finally able to take a good look at his surroundings.

Entering the room, Ronar would see the place decorated in mainly blues, whites, and grays. It definitely had a nautical feel with several large paintings of the oceans and ships adorning the walls. The room however was definitely not austere in the atmosphere however with an enormous wall PaDD along one wall and a shelf with the two gaming consoles, the Playstation22X, and the F-Box, under it. While not messy, there were the typical things associated with one actually living in a place scattered around.

“Hey Ronar,” Ian walked across the room with a towel over his shoulder and his hand extended. The area from which Ian came from and the towel over his shoulder indicated he had been cooking. “Nice to have you on board. Hope you aren’t a vegan. We made steak but if are I can whip you up something else. My parents just sent us a freezer crate of beef and I was dying to break into it.” Ian was dressed much like his wife, very casually in a pair of jeans and a graph tee shirt with the wording Trust me I’m a Dr. and then below that in smaller letters pepper.

“Oh, don’t worry,” Ronar said, accepting his handshake, “I’m not too picky with my food. I’ve had to be flexible with my palette so I’m alright with whatever.”

Kelly walked over next to her husband and slid her arm around his waist. “Ian’s family has a ranch in Lousiana. What can I get you to drink? We have pretty much everything and it is not synthahol. Just a warning.” Kelly could not help but instantly like the newest addition to the crew. He had come highly recommended not just by Fleet but also the CMO. Kelly didn’t pay too much mind to all the commendations and service records of the crew that was assigned to the ship. What she cared more about was the word of mouth and references and both of those had been glowing about the new officer.

“I’d love a water. I don’t really drink much anymore. At the Academy… well you know what cadets are like.” He chuckled.

He felt safe in their quarters which was not a feeling he was used to. The nerves that had been building up inside him only minutes before were completely dissipated. The Captain and her husband seemed like nice people. Evrilla had been right. He would have fun here.

“Your ship is lovely, Captain,” Ronar gushed as he sat down at the table, “Some of the tech on this ship is just– just incredible! I was telling Evrilla on our way here that there are some systems on this ship that we only talked about in near-hypotheticals at the Academy. I can’t wait to get started.”
