“Well, you’re the doctor.” He said with a yawn. He walked slowly down the hall and almost collapsed on the bed. “Holy crap… I am beat. Just… just wake me up for the wedding.” and he yawned and closed his eyes. In just a few moments, he was out.

Gravel

Cara woke sometime right before the sun actually peaked over the trees. She was draped across his chest. The man slept like a log until there was some reason that he needed to get up. How he knew the difference while he was asleep, Cara had no idea. She slipped quietly out of the bed and started making tea. She brushed and braided her hair, and then slipped a flannel lined satin robe over her gown and took her oolong tea outside. She stepped through the back door of the pod and slid it closed as quietly as possible. She stood in the mist shrouded morning and let the chill race down her spine. She loved mornings in Ireland. In Cara’s very biased opinion, there was nothing more mystical than watching the first rays of sunlight bounce with prismatic effect through the water vapor of the morning mist. Set against the backdrop of all forty glorious shades of Irish green, it was enough to make one believe in treasure at the end of a rainbow. She curled up on one of the large lounge chairs, sipping her tea, and simply watched the world wake up.

Cara

A large hand settled on her shoulder. How a man that big was able to move that quietly was a mystery; but quiet he was. “Mornin’. How’d you sleep?” Gravel asked and then stretched his arms up high and exhaled a massive breath. He looked around and then down at her. “I dunno what’s prettier… that view there or the one on the chair right here.’ and he grinned.

Gravel

Cara twisted on the chaise to look up and back at him. “I slept perfectly.” Her face turned slightly pink. It wasn’t that Gravel wasn’t affectionate, he was. She just never got tired of it. “I don’a know. The view from down here is pretty amazin’ itself. Join me?” The chaise was more than big enough for both of them. “How about ya? Feeling better?”

Cara

“Yeah. Couple more nights like that and I may feel positively human.” He said as he took a seat and laughed. “So we got today to get everything settled, yeah? And my Mom’ll be here sometime this morning. And I got your wedding present, so that puts me one up on you.” and he grinned mischievously.

Gravel

“I’m gettin’ ya, Grah-VEL. I don’na want anythin’ else.” Cara curled up against him. “Everythin’ is done. The benefit of tellin’ Emilia and Ava before hand. Tent, tables, chairs, band, food, cake - it’ll all be up by noon, and food ready ta be served tamorrow. Ronan will make sure. The Mayor will perform the ceremony. We do have ta go get the certificate. Emilia will kidnap me at some point for my dress. The rest o’ the day is ours.”

Cara

“How’d you feel about taking my mom along for the dress thing? She never had a daughter, and I know she always kinda wanted someone to do girly things with.”

Gravel

Cara looked at him and grinned, “O’ course she can come. It won’t protect her from the locals though,” she laughed. “I doubt anyone will be up any time soon. Emilia messaged me late. Yoss took Mam home last night. The strain and late hour was too, but Dadai and Emilia stayed with Ava. We’ll go when yer mom gets here.”

Cara

“Thanks. And it’s probably the locals that’ll need protecting from her.” Gravel said and chuckled. “So what do we do for grub in a place like this? I’m starving.”

Gravel

“The town will disown me if she and I get inta trouble.” Cara looked out across the mist. “Well there is a pod here that is the central kitchen. Anyone can use it. I could cook, or we could go inta town. Moira’s has a huge excellent breakfast. There’s a few places farther away if ya want ta travel a bit.”

Cara

“You had me at ‘huge’.” Gravel said. “Now c’mon. You can’t walk through town in a robe. You’ll start a fire. Get dressed.” and he turned and walked towards the bedroom.

Gravel

Cara got up slowly and after glancing over the landscape one more time. She walked inside, finishing her tea and sliding the door closed behind her. She dressed in a black dark washed hip hugger jeans and a cut off t-shirt. The t-shirt read Good Girls are Made of Sugar and Spice, BUT, Redhead are made of Fire and Ice. Cara slipped into her shoes, stuck her comms and micro padd in a pocket and looked at him. “Ready? Moira’s is across the square from the pub.”

It was a quiet walk back toward town, only a few people were out. Moira’s was awash in light, with huge windows and fresh paint. There was a back patio that wasn’t open yet, and chairs on the porch. Cara reached for the door and went inside.

“CARA!” an older plump woman with white hair and bright purple tips bustled over and wrapped her up in a huge hug. She looked past Cara to the man entering behind her. “Is this your beau?”

Cara looked back at him and smiled, “He is. Moira this is Gravel. Gravel, Moira Collins. The best cook in County Waterford. Even Ronan agrees.”

Moira blushed and bustled up and hugged the stuffing out of Gravel. “We are so glad you’re here. I heard all about last night. Food just got done, so you two sit down and I’ll bring it out.” And she brought out an insane amount of food: bacon, sausage, eggs, potatoes, beans, soda bread muffins and brown bread toast, tomatoes, mushrooms, white and black pudding, apple steel-cut oatmeal, corned beef hash, apple cake, potato galette, scones with jam and clotted cream, and boxty. She also brought coffee and hot tea. “Now, tuck in and there is plenty more.”

Cara chuckled, “Told you it was huge.”

Cara

Gravel’s grin was infectious. “Now this is my kinda place!” and he did just as instructed… he began eating. After a few minutes- in which he had sampled just about everything- Gravel looked towards the kitchen and half-yelled “This is amazing, Mrs. Collins! I may have to smuggle you back to our ship so you can do this every morning!” and he laughed and kept eating.

Gravel

The robust woman came out, waving a serving spoon at him, “Here’s an idea, lad. How ‘bout you two settle down here at home and ya can come eat here every mornin’ instead.” She disappeared and came back with another platter to replace everything he’d already eaten. “Now, is there anythin’ in particular ya want served tamorrow? I’m doin’ all the cookin’ and Ronan is handlin’ the drinks. And Markus is makin’ the cake.” She beamed, “He’s my boy. Loves ta bake anythin’ and good at it too.”

“Moira, ya know all my favorites, so I’ll be happy with whatever ya make,” Cara told her, reaching for another soda bread muffin, bacon, and eggs.

Cara

Gravel looked at Cara with a michevious twinkle in his eye. He then looked at Mrs. Collins. “Ma’am, unless you can put a pig on a spit over an open fire, I am sure whatever you think is great.” He picked up several strips of streaky bacon and popped them in his mouth with a grin.

Gravel

Moira tapped a finger to her chin. “Old man Quinn has a massive hog that might be big enough. I’ll go ring him and find out.” She bustled back off to the kitchen.

Cara grinned as she picked up her tea. “Ya know yer gettin’ pig on a spit. I hope they don’na find out about ya bein’ all Klingon noble or they might try ta get a targ.”

Cara

“Hey. If they want one, I know a guy who can get one here today.” Gravel said and laughed. “Besides, it wouldn’t be a party without something being roasted on a spit.”

Gravel

“Oh, I’m not complainin’. Might as well roast one. The party will last days.” Cara spread jam over a piece of toast and took a bite and sighed. “I missed Moira’s cookin’. Besides roasted pug means a bonfire.”

Cara

“Great.” Gravel said around a mouthful of black pudding. He drank some coffee, swallowed, and said Now you’re gonna tell me you like fire? You can get lost in a room with one door, and you like fire. I swear; you start a signal fire on the ship ‘cause you get lost, I’m tagging yiu as a security threat.”

Gravel

Cara laughed, it was a rich delighted sound as she met his green eyes with her own. “Oh no, Gravel. I have ya ta keep me warm. Honestly, I’m surprised we have no set off the ship’s fire suppression system.” Under the table her foot slowly rubbed up and down his leg. “Besides, I thought ya already tagged me as a security risk.”

Cara

“Nope. Just a person of intrest… to me.” He said with a grin. He ate a few more things and then began to go to work on the eggs. “This is some of the best food I’ve ever had.” he said sincerely.

Gravel

Electricity buzzed down her spine the way he grinned at her. “Have I told ya today how much I love ya?”

“No, but I’m sure you’ll get around to it.” Gravel said with a grin.

Moira was just coming back out with food for another table and heard him praise her food. She blushed like a school girl and hurried into the back and came back with another tray of everything he’d eaten. “Mr. Quinn has two hogs we can roast,” she said as she set the food down. “Now, there is plenty more of whatever ya want.”

Cara grinned, Moira might actually have more food than Gravel could eat. She was going to keep bringing more food until he told her to stop.

Cara

“Ma’am, I will happily eat whatever you want to bring out. At this point, I don’t you could make a bad dish if you tried.”
