“Oh Maybelle again?” Jacen said with a smirk, his time with the young girl had been interesting indeed. Plus EMMA had started teaching off shift and seemed to recall some stories about her. “She tried to take a broken replicator last time we meet. I don’t for the life of me know why…” Jacen said, still trying to ponder what the kid really wanted with the item.

Drayke, CE

Relann smiled. “Sowyn met her while she was with Dalaira. I’m not sure they were entirely sure what to make of her either. But Sowyn did seem intrigued by her.”

“She is the pint-sized welcome wagon,” Kelly said letting her gaze settle on Jacen. He was tall and wirey but didn’t look like he had the stamina to make it 18 holes. She might be wrong. As an afterthought, she listed Jacen on the B team in case she could not get her alien A team together for the match. He could be that reporter Amy something or other. The chick they brought in for guest spots to plug a story leak. Besides she had a special project in mind for Drayke that might take up most of his free time for a while.

Nash nodded at both Relann and Jason, that slight grin still in place. The young girl was annoying and nosy, but he had found her unwelcome friendliness.... oddly welcoming. “A replicator? What on heavens name would she want with that? Maybe next time I run into her I’ll have to ask her what she had in mind for that. Did she end up with it?”

Lt Cmdr Nash
CTO

“Wait…Maybelle tried to get a replicator,” Kelly asked switching topics in her mind. This was her issue at staff meetings. Her inner thoughts went everywhere but the matter at hand. It was also why her staff meetings as XO lasted about an hour but only ten minutes of that was the blah blah blab warp core variances were up to par or yadda yadda yadda Starfleet’s new directive wants us to change A to B and then begin part C of some stupid armchair warriors lasted brilliant idea to be more efficient.

“Jacen you did not give a ten year old a replicator and a hammer and say have at it…did you,” Kelly looked at him quizzically.

“Yes, I gave a 10 year old a replicator and a … wait hammer? What is she going to do with the hammer make it more broken?” Jacen said wit ha perplexed look at Kelly. “No, I didn’t give her anything, she sulked off without her prize.” he said shaking his head slightly.

Ryley drank from his mug of what looked like tar but smelled of coffee, and watched the people in the room. He slid his hand up his cane and used the hooked handle to catch the chair nearest him and pull it out looking at Rinker. “Doc.” He said by way of explanation and unhooking his cane went back to his drink, closing one eye slightly as he swallowed a mouthful as if it burnt like liquor.

Ryley
M.D.

The Dy’allan quirked a smirk in Ryley’s direction but said nothing.

Rinker smirked. He should be flattered. He surmised Ryley didn’t invite many people to sit next to him. Certainly this was the first time he had invited Rinker. Although he and Rinker had a similar disdain for the symbols of authority… with Ryley being far more extreme in his views and actions. “Doctor.” He nodded as he sat in the proffered seat.

Fell-Drayke, XO

Moving down the PaDD to make more notes Kelly wrote a single word: uniform. Ryley showed up. He was a phenomenal medical chief but his acting like every day that ended in a “y” meant one could wear civvies to work was starting to annoy her. Kelly gaggled the internet looking for an article to help. Gaggle was the best search engine out there at least she thought so compared to Bang which was its only real competitor. The first article was from Cosmopolitan. It;s title read, How To Get Your Employees To Do What you Want and Not Quit.. Kelly opened it and quickly scanned the contents.

Tyler made his way into the conference room, somewhat sheepishly. His heart dropped when he realized he was one of the last to arrive. While he knew many of the people seated around the table, he wasn’t sure how many of them had been made aware of his new appointment. His eyes quickly scanned the room, coming to rest on Relann’s and then Jacen’s, the two present with whom he felt most close.

Quickly taking the empty chair next to Jacen, Tyler gave a meek, “Morning.”

-Tyler Michael Wells, CSO

Hearing the door kelly looked up from her article. The new science chief had entered. “Morning Mr. Wells,” she said with a smirk and nodded remembering her first staff meeting as a Big Dog. It would not be long before he sauntered in and was lost in inner thoughts like the rest of them around the table. It came with the territory but until that time, Wells was probably going to be the only person who knew all the damn details of the staff meeting. Heck, even Ian was busy typing out something on a PaDD in the corner of the room. Kelly wondered briefly if it was a reply to her earlier message.

Making his own way into the room, Rand glanced over everyone and nodded at those that returned his eye contact before sliding into one of the free chairs and placing his own PaDD before him. Not exactly Senior Staff, he was however assigned to the Intelligence Section so was free to attend the majority of the briefings and conferences where any input from his department could be offered. Running his fingers lightly over the edge of the PaDD, Rand grinned slightly in the lull before the meeting began as he thought of more pleasant pursuits in his off Duty hours.

Looking at the clock Kelly decided to begin. “Okay ladies and gentlemen let’s get down to business. Anyone have anything of immediate attention they need to bring up? Please say no please say no Kelly thought as she let her question float over the room.

Captain Kelly Shultz

Drayke, CE

OCC: eager beavers posting :P just fixing a split.

From the far end of the table, Gravel chuckled. “Yes, Ma’am. I do.” and he tapped a few commands into the PaDD before him and a report was sent to all of the assembled officers. “Captain, you already have the report waiting for your review, but I wanted to make sure all Department Heads were aware.” and he began to go over the report.

“At 0200 hours ship’s time, Security received an alert of someone attempting unauthorized access of a restricted space. As you can see NE Brignad, a junior officer in the Science Section _” and he glanced at the new CSO with a small grin “- attempted to access the Engineering section via an emergency hatch away from the main doors. Patrol responded to the hatchway, only to find no one present. When asked for his present location, the computer responded that the Ensign was not on board. Security alerted me… again, at two o’clock in the morning, and the Engineering Watch Officer. They conducted a full sweep of the engineering section and found one NE Gold was not at her post. A full sweep was conducted by multiple Security details, and eventually the two Ensigns were found in a Jeffries Tube in a section where the hull plating blocked the signal from the badges. Please note, we found them in the jeffries tube… their uniforms were found outside of the internal hatch to that section.” and he paused for a moment. “I am assuming the confines of the tube made removal of said uniforms… difficult.”

“It can,” Kelly said nodding and thinking about to her past. In the early years of their marriage, she and Rick found every nook and cranny that afforded them some time away from prying eyes when they were on duty. It was a typical thing on ships.

Ryley choked into his cup slightly as he drank, the corners of his mouth turned up.

“Rinker you think when you speak to these two crewmen you can point out there are other ways to relieve stress on duty. Maybe start handing out those squishy balls with a snappy saying like So you mean a stress ball is not for throwing at someone when they piss you off. We can get the words USS ATLANTIS on the back in all caps. Kelly took a sip of her coffee. Dallying crewmembers were always the butt of departmental jokes and every ship and a few.

Rinker tilted his head back and forth with a smirk. “I will impress on them the difference between on duty time and private time.”

“After we had allowed the two to… gather themselves… Security escorted each back to their quarters. I am briefing you all on this in order to make sure that you are aware and communicate to your personnel that unauthorized movement is a violation of Security protocols, and ask you to reinforce that all crew keep their combadges with them at all times. We had to pull over a dozen people away from their duties because of this.” and again he paused and then said with a grin “And because if I had to get to get up at 2 am to deal with this, then all of you will have to suffer at least through the report.”

Mardusk, CoS

Kelly broke out in a half laugh. Well at least this is not warp core variances, she thought. “Jacen,” Kelly drew out his name some trying to keep a straight face. “You think you can come up with some adhesive that will allow comm badges to adhere to the crew if they need to remove their clothes as in the case of getting a dollop of mayo on it from lunch but can’t return to their quarters because of some pesky warp core malfunction?” Kelly was poking fun at the topic.

“So do you have a specific policy in dealing with trying to relive prom night,” Kelly asked Relann. As the XO this was certainly not the first time the issue had come up for her. If it was then the crew really did need some serious R&R.

Captain Kelly Shultz

Relann tried to keep her composure, but a slight laugh came out anyway. “I usually give a warning for the first incident. Most are pretty reasonable when they realize a second incident would result in a note on their file and that’s usually enough to make them re-think their options.” Not that there aren’t some great places where you won’t alert security, she thought to herself. “If there are more than two, that usually means there’s more going on and I’d then involve our counselor,” she said looking towards Rinker with a smirk. “Lucky you, it hasn’t happened since you’ve been here.”

Fell-Drayke, XO

“I hereby decree that my XO will deal with all incident’s of hanky-panky,” Kelly laughed completely passing the buck as it were, “or we make it the officer on the bridge. Might make the graveyard shift more interesting.”

Captain Kelly Shultz

Ryley raised one eyebrow and couldn’t quite contain the smile this time. He shook his head and looked down at his PaDD before filing the report to read later.

“Oh, it’s my lucky day!” the Dy’allan exclaimed, feigning excitement. Relann looked at Rand, whom she often traded off night watch depending on the circumstances. “Rock, paper scissors? That or we take it to the phaser range.”

Fell-Drayke, XO

For just a moment the powerfully built Bajoran feigned a horrified expression, which switched to a smirk moments later. “I’ve always enjoyed the quiet of the night watch” Rand said, “so definitely Phaser Range, my Rock, Paper Scissors game has always been terrible. Although we could always just place them on Report for Captains Review of Misconduct the next morning and leave them in the Brig, separate cells of course, I hear some people enjoy them as much as the Tubes.”

Lt Devon Rand
Intel

“I’m liking that even better,” Fell said with a smirk.

Memphis had spent more than one night in the brig. That was generally some quality sleep there. He always had deserved the lock up and enjoyed every second of getting there. Tbat caused Memphis to stifle a laugh and grin at the table.

Major Memphis Summervale MarCo

Nash’s eyes traveled over the assembled staff as the discussion took place, the discussion was lighthearted and jovial mostly, but he simply sat and listened as the reports and day’s duties were discussed.

Lt Cmdr Nash
CTO

“Uh, on my end, not much to report, except to remind everyone that the next batch of personnel reviews are coming up. Make sure you send me your lists and we’ll schedule meetings to discuss them.” Relann didn’t mind the review periods that happened every few weeks due to the fairly large crew, but it did mean a lot more work for a few days and she usually was pretty tired by the end of the week.

Fell-Drayke, XO

While Kelly had the look of total concentration listening to her senior staff give their reports, it was a total facade honed to perfection. Even down to the total concentration of thinking about a problem. This was a skill she learned very fast once she realized telepaths could be around the table noticing the juxtaposition of her intent facial expression but the giddy feeling of internal laughter as she read colorful memes about dating, friendship, or work ethics. It had happened on a previous ship with a Betazoid and they called her out on it. Kelly was not keen on reliving that staff meeting. So since all the information so far was not earth-shattering, Kelly continued to work on what was the most important thing on her mind: the Altered Golf roster. So if I can get Rinker to be my partner because the man did seem to have an amazing skill with chipping and putting we can square up against the Hulk aka Mardusk and IronMan Summervale. Kelly was set to place their names in stone when she realized she had left Ian out. Now that they were a couple and technically married, she couldn’t just not let him know where she planned to be for the next few hours. Scanning the table, Kelly began to eye everyone at the table as a possible golf buddy for Ian.

“Thank you Relann and I can have Ian set some time that works with both our schedules to do this together,” Kelly replied. Typing out a message to Relann discretely on the PaDD, Kelly sent it as she then posed the single question that would receive a no reply from the crew. “Anything else?” She hoped the answer was the low murmuring no so that Kelly could do the one thing she was interested in: giving out the new promotions and telling the group about her upcoming shipwide event she and Ian planned.

Relann simply nodded and secretly hoped it wasn’t first thing in the morning on any day during the eval week. But then again Kelly had yet to appear to be the morning type and she didn’t see that changing any day soon.

Kelly sent Relann the message reading =/\= Let’s do it in my quarters. Fat pants and wine as the dress and drink of choice?=/\= Anyone reading over Kelly’s shoulder might think this was a bizarre comment but she and Relann had discussed at their first face to face meeting that wearing pajama pants and drinking something besides coffee might make the workload a bit less boring.

Captian Kelly Shultz

It took her a moment to fully understand what Shultz was saying but it did seem to match Kelly’s idea about getting together informally more often. Keeping a straight face, Relann simply replied to the message. //I’m there. I’ll bring the wine. My parents send me some now and again.\

OCC: Okay so I know some people did not get to post if they wanted but I don’t want this thread to get too bogged down. By the way, I am loving the personal tidbits from you all about your characters. So my proposal is this. We can go on with chit chat in this section or the previous one that was snipped off. Just post and we can all read and comment as appropriate. I am not going to worry about timelines here so please don’t either. This was just a fun way to post and if you all liked it we can do it from time to time again. I am also going to give it until Saturday to move the thread along and start the second part of it but we CAN still “back post” in a sense if you had an idea and the thread just moved to fast since you posted last. ~ Kate

Rinker

Ryley sighed and brought up the information Bailey had given him before the meeting. He puffed air between each cheek and let the breath out before he cleared his throat.

“Yup, Three crew members have themselves or had a family member come into sickbay with a case of Parinisti Measles since 11pm last night. It’s very infectious but not lethal. Almost boring actually diagnostically since we have a vaccine and treatment now. All three patients have been treated and are recovering in sickbay but anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated or hasn’t had their boosters recently should get them done . Also all of the kids should be updated. Symptoms are a burning sensation in the throat or chest, nausea or a foul taste in the mouth, aches pains you know the trifecta of virus symptoms and a high fever.”

Ryley
M.D.

That got Relann’s attention. “Sowyn and Dalaira will have to come see you right away then. Neither of them have the full range of vaccines and Sowyn we’ve been pacing. We’re still figuring out if Dy’allans are susceptible to many of the illnesses people are inoculated for. I’ve had most of mine, but you should check my immune response.”

“What are the complications if not treated?” Relann added.

Fell-Drayke, XO

Ryley nodded and looked at Relann a second, “ uhh.” He ran his hand over his beard and then closed one eye before speaking again. “ you want me to list the scary parts of the things just told you all not to worry about? Sure ok…as I said it’s not lethal in of itself. Most people recover within 48 hours of treatment and are completely normal after 5 to 7 days. However the symptoms can cause Complications.

“He paused for breath. “ These complications can rage from common ones like dehydration due to vomiting, otitis media in some cases especially ferengi, it can lead to permenant hearing damage in some extreme cases, a sore throat is a biggie as is febrile seizures due to the fever. The more difficult complications come from Secondary infections that can cause laryngitis, inflammation, lung issues such as pneumonia. Rarely Brain and spinal infections, loss of vision and in very very rare cases fatal brain complications in the years that follow primary infection.”

Glancing around the table Ryley emphasized “None of which will happen if any further patients come down with symptoms and are treated.”

Ryley
M.D

“So we all get vaccinations,” Kelly let out a half laugh. At least they were not talking about head lice. No one she had ever met did not get the insane urge to start scratching what passed for their noggin the second people talked about the creepy crawly hair dwellers. “Let’s make it a priority.”

Deciding it was time to move the meeting along so they could do something else today, Kelly cleared her throat. “Okay, so today we have two important topics to go over. The first is the promotions. I have been reviewing my own records and realized that Lt. Commander Fell-Drayke and Lt. Commander Rinker have been way overdue for a promotion. Their dedication to the job and exemplary service to this ship, Starfleet, and the Federation are shining examples of what members of this crew should emulate both on the job and off.” Now that Kelly had announced the two senior officers getting the promotion she could add the third. “I also have the distinct pleasure of announcing officially that Lt. Tyler Wells is now the chief science officer and a lieutenant.”

“Yes.” Rinker said as he slapped the table. “Oh did I say that out loud.” As he looked around guiltily.

Kelly smiled and motioned for Ian to bring over the three boxes of new pips. Standing up she called Rinker over first. “Lt. Rinker I hereby promote you to the rank of Commander. Congratulations,” Kelly affixed the new pips to his collar. Leaning in she whispered softly as she shook his hand. “I need you as one of my foursome for Altered Golf. Shameless that I am doing it now but I really need you to say yes,” she winked at him as she finally let go of his hand.

Captian Kelly Shultz

A foursome… while he was a doctor the Captain’s game was better than his. “Well, far be it for me to deny my Captain anything.”

“Excellent. Meet me in the holodeck as soon as we wrap this up. We will call it a celebration for the new rank,” Kelly said.

Turning to Jacen she looked at him with a smile. I would normally do this but would you care to have the honor of making Rellan a Commander,” she asked holding out the small box containing the new pips.

Captain Kelly Shutlz

Memphis did well to use his poker face to hide the sigh, and eyeroll that wanted to accompany the Starfleet equivalent of pats on the back, here are some shiny new bits, and the ability to tell more people where to stick it. Memphis took a sip of his coffee, and wished he was on the holodeck torturing his marines with the Silesian Swamp drills that he had programmed in. That reminded him he needed to schedule a meeting with the new CSO about programming a few new drills into the Holodeck, and since Science controlled the computer time he needed permission to get that done.
