It was Tuesday, maybe Wednesday, Kai didn’t remember exactly what day it was, but what he remembered of that day was a Journey he had planned since he joined the Atlantis’ crew and after discovering a hidden planet of the Aedis system, which was until then undiscovered by Starfleet Exploration Groups.

The planet (a class M one) was nicknamed funnily Cheese Ball III, because it was the third planet of the system they were in and because its yellow color with huge craters made it seem like a cheese ball flying in space.
“Do you think there are living stuff there?” Asked one of his comrades when Kai made the discovery “maybe, maybe not. But something is certain, we cannot get transported to it.”
Indeed a magnetic field of some kind blocked or disturbed communication to be able to use the transporter. The only solution was the shuttle.

And indeed he, after many days of prays and ridiculous favor made to the captain (no offense to her), managed to organize what was an expedition to explore and take some samples of whatever they could find on that planet.
The shuttle, the “Coriolis” was being prepared by the Ensign, who was excited to wait someone to show up and begin the adventure on Cheese Ball III (Aedis III, for science accuracy) while his new pet, Rylee (a Golden Retriever), was jumping everywhere in the hangar bay, not knowing what to do.

“Oh my god a puppy,” Lexi said looking at the golden retriever. “We should get a puppy. In fact,” she wiggled her hand out of Chris’ as they walked toward the shuttle moving it towards her pocket. “I should have EMMA bring Ruth down to see Rylee and make sure she likes a dog.” Yes this was important but only like five percent of the reason she wanted to message EMMA. The other ninety five percent was to get the baby back down here.

Lexi fished in her pocket slowly at first and then a bit more vigorously. Moving from one pocket to the next she then patted her back pocket. “Baby did you....um have you seen my ah…” she began to look now in the bag hooked to Chris’ shoulder that contained their stuff for the trip. “I seem to have stuck my communicator....somewhere.”

Chris looked over at Lexi with a smirk. He knew in normal situations she would be loving to come on this trip, eager to do some real biology work and not be stuck in a lab but get your hands stuck in dirt and mud and find some new life. The thing is for the young married couple, they had a daughter who was barely 8 months old. Any parent could tell you getting a chance away for a night or two is a dream come true. Get them into the 24-hour period and you suddenly had parents foaming at the mouth worried about diseases that only exist in their mind.

“She is going to be fine pumpkin, Ian said EMMA works with the kids and teaches them all the time. She can surely handle a barley walking little girl. She can download all the parenting advice in the world and in the end, Jacen said he would look in, a real father… so… don’t worry baby.” Chris said as he placed his hand on top of hers as he gently rubbed the top of her hand. To some, this might have seen as a loving gesture, though for Chris he knew if she couldn’t move her hand she couldn’t try to use her communicator again to get ahold of EMMA for the seventh time in three hours.

“I know that. I just wanted to show her the dog,” Lexi looked up at Chris. She debated the odds of sprinting to the door successfully but the odds were never in her favor in that game. Life had radically changed marrying Chris. It has always been her and Ruth who was attached at her hip. Now it was a trio and Chris, while a doting father, also was the rational one of the pair. Whenever he caught Lexi crossing the line to crazy mom such as cutting his steak or trying to help him put on his coat, he called a date night. ‘This trip was every reason she became a xenobiologiat. He was going to make sure she did something she loved besides being a wife and mother.

“So you do have my communicator thought right?”

“Lexi! Chris!” Called them hearing their voices coming from behind “Oh I see you found my new room mate, Mrs. Rylee” he smiled, stopping whatever he was doing to greet his mates “also, might I ask why Ma’am Lexi has her commbadge on her leg?” He pointed out the shiny badge seemingly put there for mistake or by accident, giggling with innocent glance.

“There is it,” she practically jumped for joy. “Musta slipped from my pocket when I stuffed it in there,” Lexi grabbed it off her pant leg.

“Whatever,” he paused “if I may take your luggages and stuff? I am preparing the shuttle for departure. We will take off at 1400 and you can always help me or play with my dear!” He looked at the dog.

“Chris can help you,” she patted her husband on the back with a smile handing him another bag as she stepped away. There was no way she was leaving without speaking to EMMA. Chris just needed to learn his role in this marriage. It would take some time to train him but it would be done. Moving away from the shuttle Lexi tossed the ball for the dog and made her call.

The shuttle seemed brand new, and not one of those which saw already action somewhere in the Quadrant. He expected that for the first mission of the Coriolis, her lucid and metallic look would then be covered by a thick layer of sand and maybe get some scratch a bit everywhere.
“Eh, just thinking to clean this shuttle when we will return!” The ensign grunted

“Do you know if someone else will join us to the planet?” He asked as he checked all flight parameters for pre-flight Check-List “also, I would like to have a snake mid-trip ehehe.” He smirked

Ensign Kai O. Kingstone - CSO

“Nope I think it is us unless you think we need like a security detail,” she looked at Kai and then Chris.

Moving into the shuttle she took a seat in the back so the CSO could pilot it. That left the co-pilot seat open for whoever wanted it.
