OCC. okay you don’t have to RP this if you don’t want to. I was just trying something past the boring meeting or conference. I am going to set up a scene just to get it started. If you don’t like it please erase what I said about what you were doing and create your own setting. I will role with it. I ~Kate.

Admiral Perkins surveyed the room. Kelly’s crew seemed distinctly loyal but there was always one. One officer that could be tempted to see the benefits of a casual relationship and the perks random updates could bring. Information was always more powerful than weapons. As he surveyed the room Perkins debates where to start. He had the dossiers on everyone. Now it was time to play on the cracks in their armor. Power was all about promises and Perkins was all about promises.

Spying a candidate Perkins casually walked up to Ensign Kai Oliver Kingstone. The young officer was brilliant. His first project in the academy on basic Stasis theory and construction of Stasis module for emergencies set the field ahead years. That was followed up by this engineering thesis project for his junior year on Bussard’s Collectors an the creation of an experimental improved Collector. Leaving the academy the cadet continued to shine on the USS Endeavour helping to create a Subspace alternative Light-Transmitted message designed to improve communication speed and reduction of time terms between traveling informations. There was a rumor of some new potential defensive weapon he and a Lt. Lexi Robins were exploring but the intell on this was sketchy. Every one of these projects had put the man on Perkins radar. With the correct grooming, this young officer could go places under his tutelage and help Perkin’s career in the process. Young officers always were good in this regard. WIth the right conversation they made you think you were part of the team yet the reality was they never had the power to get anything done. This is where Perkin’s came in. He had made a career and still did helping brilliant ideas come to the light and at least get part of the credit for it. Sipping his drink he moved across the room.

Kai was drinking his usual tea and reading some reports: the life of a CSO was so busy and thus so difficult to manage. In all of his career as CSO, just some journeys to deadly planets and some slimey experimentations would take him away from his usual job.
As Admiral Perkins came near him, the Ensign stared a second at the huge figure he had in front of him and with his tea and the paDD stood up “may I help you, Admiral?” He asked wondering who he was.

“Ensign Oliverston,” Perkins said warmly. “It is a true honor to meet you. I followed your career in the academy. While we never had a chance to formally meet you Sir have been the topic of many conversations among the Admiralty. We see great things for you in the future.” Extending his hand, Perkins waited for the young officer to shake it. Kill them with kindesss and flattery: It always worked especially for the hungery young officers.

Perkins.

“Oliver Kingstone, sir.” He corrected the Admiral.

Did you really just correct me, the admiral silently fumed at the polite science officer. The young ones out of the academy were getting more and more bold. If Perkins didn’t need him so much, he would dress the man down but that could come later.

“Yes that is what I said. Oliver Kingstone,” the admiral repeated the name back with a fishy smile. “The music should be lower. This is a reception not a night club,” Perkins said in a curt tone as the soft sounds of Bach filled the room with ambiance. There was no way the soft undermines of the classic music could be mistaken for the current pop song but Perkins was never wrong even when he had to fabricate the truth to be right. “Anyway the subject was you and your fabulous career,” he turned the conversation back in the direction he wanted it.

“I never heard about discussions with the main topic being me.” He almost blushed of embarrassment.
As Admiral Perkins leant his hand to shake Kai’s hand, the Ensign put forward the one with the PaDD. Noticing it was occupied with the tablet, he made the same thing with the other, but the cup of tea was there to block the shake.

Perkins fought hard not to frown. This ensign was playing a deadly game if he thought he could make a fool out of him. Glaring he waited until the ensign made the correct choice. Being seen in a cordial manner with an admiral was every Ensigns dream.

“Sorry, never had formal meetings before ahahahahha!” He faked his nervous laugh “here, my hand.” He freed the hand with the PaDD and shook Mr. Perkins hand thinking about how fake he seemed behind his smile “so what took you to talk to me, Admiral Perkins?”

Ensign Kai O. Kingstone - CSO

“He was just coming to shake the hand of the new science chief,” Kelly stepped up next to Kai.

“Science Chief,” Perkins glared at her. “captain Bordeaux I had messaged that I had a candidate who,” Perkins gritted his teeth seething at the blonde woman before him.

“Who was distinctly not as qualified as my Lieutenant here,” Kelly took the PaDD and brought up the document she had meant to sign earlier. Ian was typically so good with this stuff but in Inas defense he had to spent the past three hours reminding Kelly not to do anything stupid to lose the new ship. Finding it she quickly signed her name and showed the document to Kai.

“What’s this?” He skimmed the document twice “Eh???” He glared surprised.
No planning, neither some advice but all of a sudden…

“Ensign Kai Kingstone I hereby promote you to the head of the science division and,” she pulled a box from her pocket presenting him with new insignia ,” the rank of Lieutenant Jg. You were exemplary in the last mission and critical to the success of the mission. I could not be prouder to have you on my command team,” she smiled warmly at Kai.

Kai stood at ease in front of the Captain, Of course a bit thrown off by the unexpected promotion and then looking both to Admiral Perkins and to the Skipper he said “I surely did not expected to receive promotion before my 26, ma’am” he giggled “I- I am without words!”
And surely he did as his hands were shaking. All those slimey stuff, all those evil killing planets. The temporary job of CSO actually became a stable position and now he was even a Lieutenant. Grade more or grade less - still Lieutenant it was. What he could ask more?

“I mean your candidate, Sally Perkins,” she threw the name out and let it hang in the air,”she was a relative of yours? I pulled Sally’s transcript. She was the one that barely passed Warp Geometry and took environmental Chemistry three times,” Kelly asked. “You were the teaching assistant for that class weren’t you Kai,” Kelly asked with a smirk. Kelly knew Kai was a scientific genius. Every ship fought over his placement the second he graduated and even the academy talked about keeping him there to head up special projects. It was all behind the scenes but Kelly was damn lucky to have gotten Kai and So proud she was able to be the first commanding officer to promote him.

Kelly Bordeaux CO

“Yes ma’am. Mr. Friedrich asked my assistance for the teaching of Warp Geometry more than once. And of course they even proposed me to held lessons for quantum time entanglement and practically every base engineering course - plus one on the advanced level (about Transwarp application, easy stuff).” It was rare that Kai could show his true abilities. For the most parts he was a humble man and preferred to maintain distances. But for a moment he felt like he needed to feel a bit appreciated and that occasion was the perfect one.

“let it be a secret,” he leaned near Mr. Perkins “I needed to suggest an answer to Ms. Sally. Otherwise she would have not passed.” And blinked joking.

Freshly promoted Lieutenant Jr. grade Kai O. Kingstone - CSO
