Mikhail looked up. There was music playing somewhere. He was in the nursery today. He loved being with kids. Whenever he got around to getting married, he was going to have throngs of them. He smiled to himself. But for now he loved his work. Mikhail was a civilian early childhood specialist assigned to the Atlantis. The other rooms had been cleared out and the children were on a field trip to the holodeck for the day. The new head of the education program, Lt. Revna Edman was busy in the lower elementary room fixing it. The last teachers hadn’t been…as enthusiastic as Lt Edman was.

But where was that music coming from? The babes didn’t seem to mind it, in fact they were all dozing off where they had been playing on the floor. Mikhail stuck his head out into the corridor and the music got quieter. He moved back into the room and went towards the connecting door to the other classrooms. When he opened the door, there was Lt. Edman, singing. And it was rather impressive. Her voice was even and rich. She saw him and waved him over as she continued to sing.

The classroom looked amazing. She’d had the colors changed to bring colors that seperated the room out into sections. There was a reading area with real books and lots of big pillows blankets and stuffed animals. There was a science section with so many different experiement pieces it was overwhelming. Another area had a large table with chairs, and then the final area was full of make believe items. What was most impressive was the two classrooms (preschool and lower elementary) had been turned into an arboretum.

Revna stops singing. “What do you think, Mikhail? Will the kids love it?”

“I think they will Ms. Edman. But the arboretum is amazing. But how are we…”

Revna holds up a hand and grins, “Well there is a very helpful science En I’m hoping to ask to come teach the kids.”

Mikhael nods thoughtfully, “En. Loughtan? He’s an amazing botanist and I understand he used to teach. I hope he has time. The kids will love it. They also loved your singing. Come here.” He waves Revna over to look through the connecting door. All the babies are asleep. Mikhail starts picking them up and placing them into cribs.

Revna enters the nursery, a soft smile forming on her face. She loved kids. She began to sing again, as she picks up one of the little ones and placing her into a crib. Next is a bigger toddler. Revna squats down and scoops the child up gently and moves to another bed. So peaceful and angelic. They have no idea what this life really holds for them. She turns for another baby, but Mikhail has already put them all in a crib.

She keeps singing as she walks into the other room and closes the door. She looks around. So many things to put away. She works on finishing the room. The children would return to the new room tomorrow. She wanted everything ready so their teacher wouldn’t have to scramble in the morning. Still singing she finishes up and heads turns to go out the door.

Oliver had been busy at work in the arboretum, after having spoken to Miss Edman and talked briefly about setting up some botany lessons for the children he had decided to pick his favorite plants and potted them to take to the classroom. The five plants he had chosen were, a Cattleya Orchid which was a beautiful pink and white, a Vulcan rock Fuscia which was Purple and Orange, Schlumbergera truncate which was a part of the Cacti family and boasted pink flowers, as well English Lavander and then finally a Tiger lily or Lilium lancifolium which reminded him of Sharah their first encounter and was orange with black spots. Holding all the plants in a large box with a few tools and a larger planting pot he walked up to the classroom door.

The door opened as Oliver walked up. Revna was inside just finishing cleaning up and was singing a rather haunting ballad about a woman who escapes a tower to try and find Camelot. Her voice carries softly and is rich giving the notes a life of their own. She’s putting the last few toys and books away. She turns towards the door, “OH! Ens. Loughty. I didn’t hear you come in.” Revna is a little embarrassed, but doesn’t seem to care. “What do you have there?”

Olly hadn’t introduced himself when he walked in because he was to busy admiring her voice, she really did sound beautiful even when dining a chilling Ballard as she was. “I’m sorry, I thought I would bring down some plants for the classroom so the children could learn to look after them and have a little project.” He lifted the box slightly “And please call me Oliver, I know you liked the idea of a Kareoke but you didn’t tell me how good you sounded, you’re going to put me and my ukelele to shame!” Dressed in his lab coat and science teams he crossed the remainder of the room to her.

Revna laughed, “Thank you, Oliver.” She seemed to blush just a bit, ” but, I never said I would be singing karaoke. And you have perfect timing. What do you think?” She pointed over to the mini arboretum that had been installed to connect the two classrooms. “Would you want to come help the kids plan and plant it?” Revna had always loved to sing. She peeked into the box. “Oh those are lovely.”
