River had heard about a new counsellor coming aboard. She knew sooner or ate she would be forced to meet with her, so River deiced to take the initiative and see her first. She wondered what the new counsellor would be like. However River was willing to bet her previous posting would come to light. Greta just what i need another shrink digging onto my actions on Acheron. Everyone seems to forget i helped save the federation. River thought to herself as she reached the door “Oh well lets see what happens” she said to herself as she range the chime.

Hearing the chime, Revna got up and opened the door. “Lt. Styxx? Please come in.” Upon entering the office it was very subdued. The harsh grays and blues that came standard were replaced by earth tones of browns, bronzes, greens, yellows, oranges, and deep reds. There were several areas to sit, couches, chairs, floor pillows. There didn’t appear to be a desk anywhere. The shelves were filled with pieces of art and memorabilia that honored her heritage. The pictures were a mix of landscapes and abstracts, carefully placed around the room so as not to clash with each other. The shelves also included an array of different objects, from singing bowls, to art supplies, to mandalas. There was also a computer interface to allow patients to choose the background noise of their choice.

“Would you like anything to drink?” Revna asked taking in her first impression of the Lt. Revna had very little experience with marines. They tended to be sent to their own doctors and counselors. When she found out there were marines on board she had read up on the division and tried to learn what she could, but she felt woefully uneducated on the service record of the woman in front of her. But people are still people and not defined by their job or the orders given to them. They have defining moments and no matter the division or field of expertise each person decided for him/herself how those moments affected them.

River walked in and surveyed the room, she raised her eyebrow but quickly dropped it. It certainly wasn’t her choice of decor. But River was a simple person when ti came ti decor she took what ever she got. “Sure I’ll have a strong black coffee no sugar. Thanks” she sad as he took a seat on a chair.

Revna walked over to the replicator and ordered a strong black coffee, no sugar, and a glass of ice water for herself. She carried the drinks over to River and handed her her coffee. “I never knew there were so many options for coffee. Apparently every person on this ship likes something different, and the captain seems to be at the front of the line.”

“You think there’s a lot of Coffee option. Wait til you try to order tomato soup.” she said jokingly. “As for the captain. I think she’s drunk so much coffee, that if you did a blood test she’d come up with a large percentage of coffee”she added.

“I believe you are right. It would certainly not surprise me if it were true.”

“So you feel close to your, i guess Nordic heritage, judging form the Decor and some of the pieces of art. Let me guess traditional parents” River said she didn’t like counsellor offices or being scrutinised. However if she could start the conversation and control the first part at least, she would feel a lot better.

OOC: What does OIC stand for?
Revna nodded, “Yes I am. My parents were very traditional. My father more so than my mother. My mother tried to convince my father to move us to the Norse colony on Norda III once time, but he refused to leave the place his ancestors lived.” She smiles over the memory. “The debate was rather heated a few times.” Taking a sip of her drink she leans back in the chair. “What about you Lt. Where did you grow up?”

Lt. Edman, Counselor

OOC: OIC stands for either Officer in command or officer in charge which ever you prefer. It’s an older way of saying CO.

Thank you

IC: “No where good” River said simply “My parent were star fleet officer, their ship vanished when i was 4. When the news broke my baby sitter and legal guardian, took everything we had along with me. She owed a couple Ferengi money the items and myself where the final payment.” She said her tone was serious and her voice almost a growl. “The ferengi owned an orphanage, as expected with Ferengi it was just a front for a kids work house. Processing all kinds of nasty stuff, a lot of kids didn’t make it out because of the stuff they inhaled. If you didn’t make enough to cover your food, you didn’t get fed. If you missed your quota more then a couple time, well lets just say i saw plenty of kids vanish.” River paused a moment and took a sip of her drink.

“The there was the other kids, they prayed on each other. Stole each other food, cloths and anything else. It was what we had to do to survive. I quickly learnt to sleep with one eye open, and to defend myself. Luckily i had a natural telnet that made me very lucrative. So i was a treated a little better, but then i was also a girl and in Ferengi clutter women have no rights, only the right to serve. So it didn’t really help much.” She said. River couldn’t help but wonder what this new counsellor would say about, what could be laughably called River’s childhood.

Revna had heard of the things Ferengi did for their “business” she could honestly say the story didn’t surprise her. She’d worked with other officers who had come into Star Fleet from their own traumatizing childhoods. She’d even worked with one, very heart broken and lost, young officer who had saved a few human children from the Ferengi once. Nothing the Ferengi did surprised her. What disturbed Revna, and she kept tightly behind her calm exterior, was the betrayal of her guardian. She couldn’t change River’s childhood. “I have a feeling your early years have given you the foundation to be the outstanding marine that sits before me now. Our past has a way of preparing us for what we shall face,” and in her habit of being totally honest, “that can be either uplifting or scary.”

River nodded “If you mean it taught me how to fight, survive on very little and be merciless then, yes it did prepared me for what my future held. Although i hoped i never would have to face such a thing again. Of course fate has a way of slapping you in the face”. She said simply. Even though it annoyed ehr she had been thankful for her ‘childhood’ It had helped prepare her. More then she cared to admit.

Revna took a sip of her drink, “Did you ever find your baby sister?”
Lt. Edman, Counselor

River smirked coldly “Yes i did. On my first assignment I found out she was in prison. So i went to see her. At first she had no idea who i was then, she saw my name on my uniform. I wish i had taken a picture of her face, she went as white as a sheet and looked terrified.” she said coldly “She tried to apologise and ask for forgiveness, which i never granted. I kept visiting her once a week. It was my retribution for what she did to me, tormenting her. sadly she was transferred to a different prison so i had to stop.” She added. it was easy to tell that river had a brutal, sadistic side to her. However it was only ever to those that had wronged her. Many had said River was a powerful ally and a scary and dangerous enemy.
