Revna passed Kelly one of the coffee cups as she sat down in a chair. The office was certainly different. She glanced around at miss-matched collection of items in the captain’s office and then leaned back against the chair, sipping at her own cup of Kokekaffe. “Fairly well. The pediatric office is set up now. It took some creative use of re-purposing some items, but I’m happy with the result. And my office didn’t take much to get it done.” Revna thought about it, taking slow even breaths. “It’s strange being on a ship where I’m not being woken up every two hours for some emergency. Atlantis is massive, with a crew to to match, but I feel like I have more off duty time here than on Centurion.” She took another sip of her coffee and grinned. “Not that I’m complaining. The medical staff has been great.” She rolls her shoulders a bit to releave the stiffness. “When I joined star fleet, oh so long ago, this was the type of ship I wanted to serve on. I’m happy to have the chance finally.”

Lt. Edman, Counselor

“She is a beautiful girl,” Kelly nodded in response to Revna’s comment about the Atlantis. “I wasn’t particularly ever looking for a floating palace. Most of the ships in my early career were fast little jobs followed by the medium size ones. The Atlantis-C was a pendragon class but after our last mission the old girl was sent to the Utopia Plantia shipyards where she was converted into a museum. It was a fitting end to her. She served us well and I would not have given her up to the scrap yards regardless of what anyone said. Ian convinced me however the OMAP package was going to be worth acting as a mayor instead of Captain at times. He was right. That entertainment package made her the envy of the other Mythology class ships. Aedan Teller does not skimp on anything and that man owed me.” Her tone was not necessarily negative but more matter of fact. Letting the strong brew fill her mouth Kelly savored the flavor a bit and smiled craddling the cup

“The name certainly carries a lot of history with it. When I was younger we took my father’s dragon boat out and went searching for evidence of the city of Atlantis. It was fun for many adventures. Of course we never found anything, but the adventures was fun anyway,” Revna reminisces as she sips her coffee.

“I did think it was an appropriate name for me given that I come from a long line of naval officers. My family has lived in Annapolis since before the good queen decided to make us a colony. I wish I could say we are from the Cousteau line of naval tradition but we descend from the Teach and Morgan brand of sailors. So much so,” Kelly took a long drink of her coffee,”my parents named me Kelly Morgan and my brother Michael Arthur.” Shaking her head, Kelly could not help but smile. Everyone wanted to trace thier ancestors back to respectable people like Jeffersons, Churchills, Roosevelts, or Einstien but Kelly’s past was filled with renegades, rebels and rogues.

“I had a sailboat before a wagon,” Kelly grinned,”but it was named the Kracken. Mainly because I capsized all the time but again I was five.” Enjoying her coffee, Kelly looked at the picture of Ian on the corner of her desk. It was very casual with them on the deck of a boar wearing matching blue polo shirts and white shorts. She sat leaning back in his arms along the aft rail with one foot propped on on the massive wheel used to steer the boat.

Revna grinned, “Captain, you come from one of the most noble” Revna snickers, “lines of seafarers. We, you and I, are in good company. My family descends from Viking pirates. And without us there would be no respectable people for others to be descended from. If our families had not paved the way, the ‘Cousteaus’ would never have had the guts to go out and do what they did. I was told recently, that ‘ones born with ancestors as pirates, for example, are strong people, not bad people. People who have lived and seen what life is really like.’ I think I prefer my ancestors that way.” Revna paused as the the captain looked at a picture on her desk. She looked happy and content in the photo and she could tell from Ian’s look why he was such a good match for Kelly. Her own mind wandering back to the Odyssey and a picnic with cookie dough ice cream and Solo.

“God this reminds me of camping.” The coffee had a distinct taste of percolated coffee which was a rareity these days.

Captain Kelly Bordeaux

“I’m glad you like it. We made this at home all the time. We camped a lot too. My father had this thing about knowing how to do things the ‘old’ way. We’d go out into the forests and make lean-to’s out of sticks and brush. We’d try to start a fire with flint.” Revna smiles, “Never could do it. Then we found out my dad was cheating. He’d brought a ligher the whole time. We would fish and then cook our own dinner. My dad was…” she smiles shaking her head, “SO serious about it all. But they are beautiful memories.” Her gaze is far away for a moment, but then the smile changed, “That ended with the Breen attack though. One day, I’m going to go camping on some weird alien planet, just so I can say I’ve done it. What about you, Cpt?”
Lt. Edman, Counselor

OOC: I SO read that wrong…fixing!

“Earth or the second battle of Chin’toka,” Kelly reclined back in her seat.

Captain Kelly Bordeaux

“May I ask why? Just because I’m super nosey.” Revna smirks and sips at her coffee. She leans back in her chair, rolling her shoulders to ease the tightness. It hurt more today, she’d have to stop by sickbay later to make sure nothing was going wrong. She’d probably just over worked again.

Lt. Edman, Counselor

“Becuase you mentioned you were in the Bremen attack,” Kelly stared a bit confused. It seemed rather odd for the counselor to drop the information and not bring it up but then again everyone was allowed their personal thoughts, memories or skeletons in the closet. Maybe Kelly read too much into the comment about her past and should have concentrated on the lighter topic of camping.

Revna looked up, “Oh my.” She looked sheepish. “I’m sorry Cpt. I thought you meant you wanted to visit Earth or the Chin’toka battle field.” Revna shook her head, “Not a great first impression. I’m so sorry,” she laughs at herself. “I was on Earth. I was 16 at the time. I can still see the explosions in the atmosphere.” And see Shauwn’s face as he disappeared in the transporter beam.

Kelly was unsure what to say to Revna’s reply. Keeping it light she continued with the last topic.

“Weird alien camping is not all it’s cracked up to be,” Kelly let out a laugh steering the topic to a new avenue. “As security I spent enough weekends traipsing around after scientists looking for something unknown and wonderful. I always thought it’s best to leave the unknown alone in most circumstances. Still there is something exhilarating about slapping mosquitoes and the unexpected thunderstorm.”

“I don’t think I want to go finding the unknown. Maybe some place that is designated for camping? I’m a good shot, but I don’t think I want to go running for my life,” Revna mused. “I’m of the mind, what we have discovered is interesting and wonderful enough. Though I’m aware I don’t share that opinion with many.”

Needing a new topic, Kelly glanced around the office for inspiration. The place was like a curio shop and full of endless inspiration. Spying an object she directed her attention back to Revna. “So what do you like to do for fun?”

Captain Kelly Bordeaux

“I love to sketch, but I’m horrible at it. Well I’m better than stick men, but it’s for fun, not because I’m able to create great art. My first love though is sailing. I love great literature but I’m not an avid reader, I prefer to see it in movie form. So I guess add movies to the list and theater. And I’ll never confirm this if it gets out, but I love to dance.”

Revna looks around the room again. “You have quite the eclectic collection ,Cpt. Any interesting stories in here?”

Lt. Edman, Counselor

“Too many to mention,” Kelly let out a deep sigh, “and each one is a hour long. Take that Jersey,” she pointed to the wall behind Revna. “That baby belonged to Ric before the divorce. It was one of his prized possessions but was procured in the divorce by the midnight jersey raid of our crew the day after I got the separation papers. Dante, Ethan, and I broke into our house and stole most of what you see in here as community property. I was going to make sure Cynamynn wasn’t getting any of it by default so we climbed in through a window after a huge bender and took what I considered half of what we had as married assets. Some of the stuff is worth a mint like that original Jackie Robinson jersey but the other stuff we took varied from things I wanted to whatever was in arms reach. The guys had zero idea on what to grab so that combined with the booze meant I am still unpacking boxes and finding things.”

There was quite a bit of history there. Ric. Divorce. Separation. Cynamynn must have been a home wrecker. Dante???? Oh Knight. Must be. Now that made sense. “Knight and Shultz. It all makes so much more sense now. I didn’t even consider what your maiden name was. Your reputation goes back much further than this ship, Cpt.”

“As for the sailing it is in my blood so much so I have my boat on board in personal storage. She is my baby. I wasn’t sure how the hell I was ever going to get it on board because of the size however enter Jarred, Dante’s chief engineer. As a present for getting my command, he built me a portable transporter buffer. Don’t ask me how it works. All I know is when I want to put it in water I point, click and viola,” Kelly spread her hands wide as if doing a magic trick. As for the rest I am more of a doer than a sitter. I love the casino and being on the go. Ian has threatened to attach a ball and chain to my ankle the next vacation we take. I just have never seen the appeal of sitting with your toes in the water and your arse in the sand unless it is because you are waiting for the next activity to start. ” Realizing she was dominating the conversation, Kelly moved the topic off her and back to Revna.

“I miss my boat. I guess rank has its privileges.” Revna considered it. “I can’t say I don’t like the time to sit and watch. But maybe that comes from my Da making us watch the weather patterns before we set sail. I’ve noticed, Cpt. several of the crew have actually sailed, on water, before. Maybe we should have something on the holodeck some time.” She grins, “A race perhaps?”

“So what actually brought you to apply to the Atlantis. I heard the Centurion was a great ship. Not that I didn’t jump at the chance to get someone with your qualifications. Its just mild curiosity.”

Captain Kelly Bordeaux

“Centurion is an amazing ship. I’m very lucky to have served on her. She was different though. A hospital ship isn’t, well I don’t know. I’ve always served on hospital ships. My patients always said they were different though. Said they encouraged leisure and laziness. I never felt that way, but I’m glad they did.” She sips at the coffee that luckily is still warm. She looks the captain in the eye. “Honestly, I always wanted to serve on a ship like Atlantis with families, a sense of community. But I never would have requested her. I would not have made the choice to leave my patients like that. The choice was made by my previous CO.” Revna leaned back. She had a hard time accepting that Cpt. Bordeaux didn’t know what had happened. She didn’t know if the captain simply wanted to know if Revna would be honest, or wanted the full details. “I was injured, severely. My previous CO felt I needed a change. My recovery will be long term and he felt…I couldn’t do my job as effectively if I stayed on Centurion. He was afraid I might begin to suffer from PTSD.” She had no problem giving the captain more, she just wasn’t sure how much the captain wanted.
Lt. Edman, Counselor

“Well any issues from PTSD are an issue on any ship,” Kelly devoted all her attention to the young woman across from her. “At least as a counselor you are better trained than most to notice and deal with the syptoms that others. So my question I guess is why do you think your previous CO thought you could not do your job effectively on the Centurion but you would be able to do so on the Atlantis if he was worried you might suffer from PTSD. I mean the Centurion was a medical ship. It is designed for crew to help others with various medical issues. The Atlantis is not a medical ship so you can see why I am slightly perplexed,” Kelly took a long sip of her coffee. If Revna was not fit for duty, they would not have allowed her to be posted on a ship let alone treating people if she was compromised. All her files had checked out as Revna being one of the best in her field. The question Kelly posed was not debate the ability if the lieutenant could perform her duties but more why the woman seemed to feel the the last CO wanted to get rid of her instead of supporting her.
