“Well that’s a good start.” Lera laughed and leaned back watching the folks come and go.

When the Counselor approached the table, Lera smiled. Shaking the woman’s hand, the engineer nodded. “I am, Ms Edman. A pleasure. Thanks for joining us. I’m glad Mar made the offer.”

Revna smiled, “It’s a pleasure. I was pleasantly surprised by the invitation.” She took an empty chair to sit. “My name is Revna. Ms. Edman is my sister, and I’m off duty so no Lt. if you please. Always being on duty becomes tedious.”

“So what brings you out to the deepest of space to poke at heads?” It was light teasing as she smiled.

Revna took a sip of her soda. “My CO thought a change of pace and scenery was necessary. It let’s me get back to what I started doing. Before Star Fleet I worked with kids and families, and I was told, Atlantis has plenty of both.”

Lt. Edman, Counselor

“Kids, yes. Some of them are even young…” he said with a grin. At that moment Harry arrived with two pitchers of beer which he sat in front of Mardusk. He looked at Lera and said “What are you having, Miss?”

Marcus, CoS

Revna laughed, “And for some reason the children who aren’t ‘young’ are VERY bad at hide-n-seek.”

“Revna it is.” Lera smiled. “Hmmmm, kids and beer. Wondering if the Counselor agrees that is such a good idea.” She laughed and nodded to Harry. “I’ll have what he’s having. But just one, please.” Glancing at Revna she smiled. “Well, Revna, apparently we are at the family table tonight, kids and all.” She laughed chucking her chin towards Mar. “What wold you like to drink that will help you survive that?”

Lera
Eng

Revna chuckled, “Kids and beer is pretty normal where I come from. Our town hall was usually full of drinking adults and mischievous children.” Revna glanced from Lera to Mardusk, “I found drink doesn’t help with children like that. It usually requires quick reflexes and a quicker wit. Something my sister and I figured out very early. We tended to cause a LOT of problems.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor

Mardusk chuckled. ” Well, how about we all steer away from babysitting this evening?” and he looked at the Counselor and grinned. “Of course now that I know that, I may flag both of your records to make sure security is always around when you are together.”

Mardusk, CoS

Revna put her drink down after taking a sip. Her look rather mischievous. “Only so long as whomever you send is good looking and can keep up.” Of course she’d rather a certain Tactical officer, but that was her own little secret. “Hmmmm A whole detail of security just for me. My twin…I could get her a spare uniform. I’d look like the craziest ship’s counselor in history. Oh the things that could do for my reputation.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor

Lera laughed. “I have the feeling Mar just opened a box of tribbles he hadn’t planned on.” Waiting till they all had their drinks a moment later, she held hers towards the center of the table. “A toast then… new friends and new mischief,” she winked at Mar. “And security to back us all up in both situations.” She laughed and wondered just what Mar would think of a bunch of little ones running around his office or quarters. She wasn’t one to think of kids of her own. But the idea of knee high chaos surrounding her boy friend made her smile, none the less.

Revna laughed softly, it was more a grin than an actual laugh. “Tribbles? Do NOT tell my sister if you have tribbles on board. Seriously she can make those things breed at twice the speed they usually do.” Revna dramatically shivers. It was true, but after the last time her sisters was a little afraid of Tribbles now. Revna raised her drink and shook her head, “Lera, we need to talk later. I have plenty of ideas that I think you will find entertaining.”
Lt. Edman, Counselor

Lera smiled and glanced at Mar. “I’d love to. You are right, Mar. This was a fantastic idea!”

Mardusk picked up a pitcher like a glass and chuckled. “Yeah… maybe for the two of you. I’m getting the feeling I just started some kind of syndicate.” and he took a drink.

Mardusk, CoS

“You have no idea Mardusk, no idea at all. But if anyone could pull it off it would be you and this crew.” She could see it in her head, and then the laughter started bubbling up and then she started to really laugh. And she regretted it almost immediately. Her lungs were tight and just not up for that kind of stress. She kept her smile in place but stopped the laughter, forcing several shallow breaths. Her voice strained, she looked at Lera, “Enough about me, tell me about you.” It was an obvious attempt to give herself a moment to recover. She kept the calm breathing and when she knew she wouldn’t drop her drink she picked it up and sipped it a few times.
Lt. Edman, Counselor

Lera found herself laughing with the woman and her hand reached out to pat Mar’s arm. “Sorry, dear. We promise to let you remain in charge.” She winked at the Counselor. “Won’t we?”

Revna shook her head, “Nope, sorry. I’m not making that agreement. You’re welcome to though, Lera.” Her eyes danced and she laughed.

As the laughter slowly died down, she shook her head and gave a slight shrug. “Not sure what there is to tell. I mean, my story is pretty much like everyone else. I grew up, joined the Academy, eventually ended up here. I stuck my foot in my mouth with him to the point I chewed on my knee for a while. Then a mutual friend forced us to have a date and here you have it.” Her jaw clenched a bit and Lera looked nervously at her cup before taking a sip to hide her nervousness. Surely the Counselor would know of her past soon enough. But now wasn’t the time to bring it up.

It took her a moment, but she recovered her smile and looked back up once more.

Revna had hit a button and she hadn’t meant to. She’d simply been trying to get to know her. She kept the slight smile on her face, and changed the topic slightly hoping to ease whatever was bothering Lera. Revna shrugged, “That’s true of us all I guess. But I have to know, because I absolutely can’t even put a puzzle together without a master diagram, how do you do it? Take an idea and make something out of, seemingly, nothing.” She sipped at her drink, and Harry was back, wanting know what they wanted to eat. Revna ordered Kjøttkaker, meat cakes with brown sauce, served with potatoes and carrots, with chilled cider.
Lt. Edman, Counselor

Lera laughed. “Something out of nothing? You mean Mardusk and myself?” She glanced at him and for a moment, Edman would see something else in Lera’s eyes, and it was as far from painful as it could be. There was love in her eyes and admiration. Then it dampened, probably for present company. “I wouldn’t say nothing. More like two people who knew what they wanted. But both thought the other wouldn’t be receptive. It took a third party to connect the dots,” she glanced back at the Counselor and smiled. “To create the ‘diagram’ so to speak. Though I still think he keeps me around so I will keep fixing things for him without him having to wait for work requests to be processed.” She winked and ordered Shepard’s Pie from Harry.
