Sickbay - Quick Review

Posted May 26, 2022, 3:36 p.m. by Lieutenant Junior Grade David LeDoux (Chief Medical Officer) (S. Kimmel)

David sat silently reviewing Dr. Hofmann’s notes on the physical modifications made to the various members of the away team. He shook his head. These modifications, while crucial to the mission, were always problematic and the more extensive the modifications, the more problematic. And once again, he was thankful that he wasn’t the one undergoing these procedures.

His attention was diverted when Rachel placed a small plate in front of him with a few crackers and a small bowl of red liquid in front of him.

“What is this?” he asked glancing up at his wife.

“Your sister just sent me a replicator recipe for Cajun Nuclear Warfare Sauce,” she said with a smile that wasn’t quite convincing. “I know. I know. The color isn’t quite right but give it a try anyway and tell me what you think.”

He smiled and turned his attention back to the sauce. Rachel was right. The color was just a bit off but still… He picked up a cracker, dipped it quickly into the sauce and then put it into his mouth. The heat was instantly obvious. The hottest Sriracha cause he had ever tried was about 100,000 on the Scoville scale while the venerable Tabasco sauce was a mild 8,000. His eyes began to water. This one was easily 500,000 if not a good deal hotter. He looked up and smiled at his wife and wondered if she had tastebuds. “It does have a bit of a metallic taste to it but the heat does linger nicely.”

“That’s what I thought too,” Rachel said. She shrugged. “I’ll let Jasmine know that its a near miss.”

“Aren’t you on duty?” David said. “I thought the ship had something of a shortage of nurses.”

“Aye aye, oh Captain my Captain,” she said. She winked as she turned and went back to her nursing station.
