OOC: Just as a general aside, I’ve got company coming to visit and I’m having a delightful dental procedure as well (One that might include a root canal if this one tooth doesn’t settle down lol). I will aim to post as much as possible, but I don’t think I can maintain the AWOL limit, so I’ve declared a LOA just in case. If you need immediate action, my trusty XO can jump in where needed I’m sure. :)

IC:

Whilst the away team was working away on the surface, Captain Andreassen decided to poke her nose onto the CIC to make sure the ship was ready for any surprises that might crop up.

Settling into her chair, she checked in with what each department was up to while they waited for the away team to do their thing.

~Freja Andreassen~

Standing at the tactical station was the Acting Chief of Security an Andorian named Somnia Sh’shryllel and she spoke up right away “Captain as you know our Sensors have not been able to detect individual life signs of the Observation team which is why the Away team is down on the surface With your permission I think it would be a good idea to maybe make sure it’s not something wrong with our sensors we could also use this as an opportunity to find something to do a weapon calibration test on” she said looking for the captains approval which would of course mean taking the ship out of orbit but still remaining in the system itself

OOC: Mjolnir-class. No Bridge. Fixed it per the spec.

I:
Daneg, who had been acting as the XO, turned towards the Security officer with a glare, although this was a little awkward given the sensor stations between them.

“The weaponry is fully and adequately calibrated, I can assure you,” the Chief Engineer snapped. “This is a combat vessel; we don’t need to manually adjust our targeting unless there’s an instance of sabotage.”

Daneg thought for a second.

“We could always use a different sensor system to check ours. Why don’t we send a group of pilots to do a friendly scan pass on that other vessel in orbit? We compare their results to ours, and see if there’s a significant variation in the readings.”

she was the same rank and as such, she had no problems glaring back at him “Lieutenant I think I know better than you when it comes to our weapon systems The Sensors on the Fighters are not going to be good enough to get any comparable data and I believe the decision rests with the Captian” she said politely though the look she gave the chief engineer made it clear she was not impressed by Daneg

Daneg made a mental note to write up Sh’shryllel, but only in unofficial comments that would be considered for actual promotion and placement. She seemed to have forgotten that he was technically the acting First Officer for the current shift, regardless of the shared length. Beyond that, the use of the weapons may have been under the purview of the Security department, but their maintenance was entirely Engineering. He almost messaged the Engineers to alter power resources so that phasers were only operating at 50% power, just for the sake of flexing his authority. Such instincts, Daneg recognized, were part of why he never quite worked out in business - he was quick to make rivals instead of letting opponents sink themselves.

“Very well, acting Security Chief,” Daneg said, settling back in his chair. “I was not suggesting a full spectrum scan, but merely scans that both the Chimera and our fighter wing can perform for the sake of comparison. As the Lieutenant said, Captain, it is your decision.”

OOC: Good catch Nick....see above reason for my LOA, thankfully it wasn’t my teeth causing me pain, but my gums and they are settling down (still a bit of pain though, so fun). I still have company in town, so my posting will be slightly beyond the regular AWOL limit. :)

IC:

“The away seems to be fine at the moment, we won’t be going far,” Freja mused, “Will we be out of comms range of the away team on your proposed routing Lieutenant?” She asked the acting COS, “If so we can leave some fighters in orbit, they can practice orbital maneuvers whilst maintaining an open link to the away team.”

~Freja Andreassen~

That is possible though honestly I could rig a temporary Comm buoy that we can of course Self destruct on our way out of the system once we are finished here” she suggested “Though I would not begrudge the pilots a chance to run maneuvers as well” she added quickly waiting for the captains word

Dr. LeDoux scanned the medical display sensors and nodded and turned toward the Captain.

“I have readings on all the members of the away team and all values are within the nominal ranges for their base species with the prosthetic modifications,” LeDoux said. “I also have a positive lock on all their locations. We can any or all of them in a medical emergency.”

Dr. David LeDoux, CMO

“Let’s try the probe, if we grow concerned for any reason, we can deploy the fighters easily enough,” Freja nodded, “Inform the away team that we will be moving out into the system for some testing, but will be nearby if they need a ride.”

~Freja Andreassen~

OOC: I’m going to leave my LOA up a few days more, tomorrow is my dental appointment (it was originally cancelled, but now it’s back on which is great! lol), so I should be back to “normal” by Friday-ish. Still reachable by email, so if you need to get me, that’s a pretty quick way to do so. :)

Daneg stifled a sigh. An exploration vessel would never have broken orbit with personnel on the surface just to do something that could prove productive in the meantime. He knew that Starfleet had begun to regularly dispatch ships like the Chimera to missing personnel cases like this, just in case the reason for the disappearance was a hostile power that needed more force than a more research-oriented vessel could provide. It still made the Ferengi uneasy to engage in theoretical combat maneuvers mid-mission, but he had not voiced his objection as such; objecting to a dreadnought performing combat-oriented tasks, no matter the situation, seemed like an easy way to be accused of misunderstanding his assignment.

“Break orbit when ready,” Freja ordered, “Move us out only as far as we need though, I’m not completely fond of leaving the away team without a quick extraction option, but if we can solve our sensor issues, we might be able to locate the missing observation team and give our away team some assistance.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Daneg nodded slightly, mostly to himself. At least it was a balanced response to the plans offered, even if it ironically calibrated something that, as far as Daneg was concerned, didn’t need it instead of checking a system that seemed to be having issues with the planetary environment. Captain’s prerogative was what it was, however, and Daneg was not going to contradict it openly.

“I’ll see what I can do about our sensors once I finish my bridge shift, Captain,” Daneg said.
