OOC: This will occur after the away team has finished locating the missing team and all that as I think that makes the most sense.

IC:

Invitations to the senior staff had gone out, Freja was pleased everything seemed to be working out well. She had received word from Command to make things all official-like and it was time to name her new XO.

And there was nothing like a small gathering of the senior crew to usher in that new XO.

~Freja Andreassen~

Lunan Farrah was nervous for the first time in a long while. As a competent scientisht, he was confident that the mission had gone well, so the need for a meeting comprising the whole senior staff made him… uneasy. Still, he arrived promptly in the observation lounge and took a seat at the Science Officer’s seat. “Good evening Captain,” he addressed Andreassen with a polite nod.

-Lieutenant (For Now) Lunan Farrah: Chief Science Officer (For Now)-

LeKeitah arrived in the observation lounge dressed in the standard blue Starfleet uniform. “I hear you have a big announcement, Captain,” she said with a smile as she looked at Lt. Lunan. As she took her seat she said, “My aftereffects report from the mission is ready and has been sent to you to review at your convenience. It is not as thorough as I’d like because I have not had an opportunity to speak directly with most of the staff. However, it does contain a preliminary assessment of the mental and well-being of each of the crew who attended the away mission. This is based on my own observations of them during the mission. Please let me know if you find it sufficient or if you’d like me to call everyone to my office for a one-to-one session.”

Naisyr, Counselor

Lunan seemed momentarily confused by the amused look Naisyr had on her face and then focused on the PADD in his hands, “My detailed report on my findings can be found on this PADD for whenever is most convenient ma’am.”

-Lieutenant Lunan Farrah: Chief Science Officer-

BUMP for the board!

-Kieron-

“I do have a big announcement,” Freja nodded answering her counselor, “I think your report should be fine, if I happen to notice anything of concern, I’ll be sure to send them your way.”

“Looks like we’re just waiting on a few other folks to show up and then we’ll get underway.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Lunan arched an eyebrow, “Should we have prepared anything for today?”

-Lieutenant Lunan Farrah: Chief Science Officer-

Daneg strolled in, not quite sure what the occasion was. The Captain had just requested his presence in the Observation Lounge for a special announcement, and so he went. He had a table for four on semi-permanent reserve in the room (any hours when he was off-duty), but saw that it was on the opposite side of the area from where the Captain was already present. He sighed, as he had specific reasons for choosing his table, but once again, Captain’s prerogative took priority.

“Hello,” he said. “I suppose this announcement must be of significance if it must be done in person.”

  • Lt. Daneg, CE

“It is indeed,” Freja replied with a smirk, “Plus it’s always nice to unwind after a mission.”

~Freja Andreassen~

“Regardless of its success?” Lunan said, a gleam of cheek he knew he could only just get away with in his eye.

-Lieutenant Lunan Farrah: Chief Science Officer-

“Absolutely,” said Keitah grinning at the Bajoran man, “I once read a quote from a 19th century man. It went something like this.... “Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.”

OOC: Quote is from Winston Churchill

Naisyr, Counselor

“Churchill,” Lunan noted, “I see I’m not the only one who fancies themselves a human history buff.”

-Lieutenant Lunan Farrah: Chief Science Officer-

“Well I think everyone has arrived so far, if not, they’ll just have to miss out on the festivities,” Freja remarked, stepping over to a dais that was in one corner, “One of my mentors coming up in the ranks once told me that there are three types of starfleet officers. There are the every day officers, who are able to carry out their duties and respond to orders from their superiors without complaint and without delay. I’d be a load of trouble if nobody on this ship wanted to take orders, for example,” she remarked with a small laugh before continuning, “There are the trail blazers, exceptional men and women who have a knack for getting into trouble, but somehow they become legends that we speak of even today, like Captain James T. Kirk. Finally, you have the commanders. Commanders are like officers, they are able to carry out orders, but they hold a unique ability that the officers lack. Not only are they able to see what actions are necessary for them to take, they can see what is necessary for someone else to take, even if that means someone has to die so the majority can live. It gives me great pleasure to recognize one of these commanders in our midst, Lieutenant Lunan Farrah, please step forward.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Daneg suppressed a snort. Kirk, the model for the trouble maker who managed to make his superiors look the other way by being just too good to cashier. He knew quite a few males in the Alliance who fit that description, but he doubted any of them would either want to join Starfleet or even be eligible for a commission. This had to be something important to bring up a model of “fix and forget” captaincy (as members of many a Second Contact crew knew).

It took Lunan a second to register that Captain Andreassen was addressing him, when he noted that the entire bridge crew was now staring right at him, he straightened his uniform with a tug, stood and crossed the room to be facing directly opposite the CO.

-Lieutenant Lunan Farrah: Chief Science Officer-

“Lieutenant, by the power vested in me by Starfleet Command, I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Commander with all the rights and privileges that come with it. I am also reassigning you to the position of First Officer of the USS Chimera. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander and keep up the great work,” she finished with a smile, holding out a box of rank pips, “I like to give my officers the choice of whether I pin these on them or whether they want to pin it themselves.”

~Freja Andreassen~

After the Captain presented Farrah with his new pips Keitah stood up and clapped loudly. “Congratulations, Lieutenant Commander! And to you Captain on your new first officer.”

Naisyr, Counselor

Lunan’s mouth gaped, Command had only really come onto his radar since joining the Chimera, he was always a scientist first after all, but seeing the rapport that this ship’s previous XOs had managed to garner with the crew, Lunan began to think that a position such as that one would be perfect for better establishing relationships. ‘I- I would be honoured if you would pin them to me Captain,’ his hands were that clammy that he was worried he’d drop the pips.

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

“Happy to do so,” Freja smiled, taking the pips out of the box and expertly pinning them to her new XO’s collar, “Wear them with pride, you earned this.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Daneg felt his lobes twitch involuntarily. He didn’t particularly understand the appointment - the Chimera was a combat vessel, not a research ship - but if the Captain felt that it was an appropriate assignment, then he would support her.

“Congratulations, Mister Lunan,” Daneg said simply, raising the glass which he had received upon sitting.

  • Lt. Daneg, CE

“I know what you’re thinking Mr Daneg,” Lunan said with a grin, “I’ve been keeping up on my tactical training, I may be a scientist first, but I can hold myself in a fight.”

-Lt Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

“Well, with the official bit of this gathering over with, the only thing left to say is to enjoy the selection of food I had prepped and mingle,” Freja replied, “I’ve always found it best to enjoy the slower times when they do come as you never quite know when the next adventure will call.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Lunan grabbed a glass from the table and grinned, “Will you all join me in a toast?”

-Lt Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

“Absolutely,” Freja snagged a glass herself with a smile.

~Freja Andreassen~

Keitah also raised her glass and waited for the words of the new XO.

Naisyr, Counselor

With one hand folded into a fist behind his back, Lunan smiled, “I’d like to thank you all for bringing me out of my shell as a Starfleet officer, I look forward to the possibility of establishing a relationship with all of you over the next few months. To the Chimera, and one hell of a crew!”

-Lt. Commander Lunan Farrah: XO-

Daneg never had quite understood why humans invoked an eternity of torment from one of their religions (or multiple - he could never quite figure that out) as a means of compliment. Multiple explanations had resulted - something about someone who you would trust to get you through it was common - but Daneg still remained confused, as his concept of a passage to the afterlife included no possibility of return. He was, however, impressed that the new XO had noticed his slight indication of confusion regarding the promotion.

He raised his glass, said, “The Chimera!” and took a swig of his drink.
