Lardel finally got the squadron moving towards completing their arrival, and after the… ‘discussion’… with the Chimera’s XO; he decided now was the time to meet with the Captain. He walked out of his offic, still in his flight suit, and told his aide “Going to see the ship’s Skipper. Unless there is blood, don’t call me till I get back.” The 2nd Lieutenant came to attention and saluted. “Sir yes sir!” and Lardel nodded and walked out of the Flight Deck area towards the turbolift.

The stocky Marine Aviator walked down the passage, nodding at some of the Battalion Marines as he passed them. “OOH-RAH BLACK SHEEP!” one yelled as he passed and Lardel let out a resounding “OOH-RAH MARINE.” in response, drawing some looks from the Fleet personnel around them. He came to the turbolift, stepped inside, and made his way to the CIC and the Captain’s Ready Room.

Stepping out onto the main command deck of the Chimera was always a moment to appreciate the sheer impressiveness of the ship. He smiled slightly and then went to the Ready Room door and pressed the chime.

Lardel, CAG

“Come in,” Freja called, looking up from her desk.

~Freja Andreassen~

Lardel entered and smiled at Andreassen while giving her a salute. “Skipper, good to see you. Lieutenant Colonel Lardel reporting, Ma’am. The 214th Fighter Attack Squadron is docked and all craft and personnel are accounted for.” He dropped the salute and then said “So how have you been, Captain?” and he stood at ease.

Lardel, CAG

“Excellent,” Freja smiled, “I’ve been well, yourself?”

~Freja Andreassen~

Lardel gave her a half-smile and said “Well, I was better before your boy there decided to call me Major. In front of my Second-In-Command who just so happens to be a Major. But I think I explained myself clearly enough that he got the point. And hey, no punches thrown, so there’s that.” and he chuckled.

Lardel, CAG

“I realize I should’ve perhaps given him a little primer on marines,” Freja remarked with a slight laugh, “Though I doubt my primer could’ve taught him better than your explanation. He’s still new and learning, he should hopefully take this lesson in stride. I’ll keep an eye and redirect him where necessary, though I’m sure you successfully drove home the point that we command the ship, you command the fighters. I’m still learning new things about this CO thing, but you’ll be happy to know I still subscribe to the whole ‘if you don’t tell me how to Starship captain, I won’t tell you how to run your fighters’ philosophy that worked so well last time.”

~Freja Andreassen~

The Zakdorn Marine smiled and said “Then all that’s left to do is drink.” and he laughed. “It’s good to see you again. I was really happy to hear that you were still in Command when we got orders. I do so hate having to house break new Fleet CO’s.” He smiled warmly and grew slightly more serious.

“So about the new Wing.” Lardell said. “The last time I was here we were primarily a fighter attack and defense force. This new Group is far more multi-faceted. Not only do we have fighters, but we are Search & Rescue… Insertion / Extraction… Reconnaissance… and Intelligence qualified. The whole Special Operations catalog, if you will. As long as it involves flying, we can handle it. Add to that that I have probably the single best group of Aviators and support personnel assembled in one unit since the Dominion War, and I will put real money on this being the best and most versatile Group in the entire Federation. So with that being said… I don’t want to see this Group go to waste. We need to be utilized, Captain. And for that I want to know what you have heard about potentialities for operations going forward. If you care to discuss, of course.”

Lardel, CAG

“Starfleet command rarely decides assignments without some sort of logic behind it,” Freja leaned back, “I’m sure your command is very similar in that respect. I haven’t heard anything specific mission-wise, but unlike other COs around the fleet who’ve never flown a fighter before, I have and I understand how freaking frustrating it can be to sit and watch the action go by and I don’t like leaving teams unused when they can change the tide of a mission, so I think you and I can work out where best to put your fighters to acheive our mission objectives in the most efficient way possible.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Lardel nodded and said “Good. I appreciate that, Capatain. Now then… what questions do you have for me?”

Lardel, CAG

“I can’t think of anything specific,” Freja shrugged, “I trust that you will keep me informed as to any other run ins with non-marine members of the crew. If it becomes a bit much, I might have to start a mini-class on what not to do.”

~Freja Andreassen~

Hannibal laughed and said “I’ll do my best to make sure you don’t have to write up a lecture. But I think we’ll be able to make it work, Skipper. Growing pains, sure. But thats normal.”

Lardel, CAG

“Indeed,” Freja nodded, “Have you anything else to discuss Colonel or shall I just let you get back to your work?”

~Freja Andreassen~

Hannibal shrugged and said “Only other thought I had was maybe a dinner with all the Senior Staff of both the ship and the Wing? Maybe let everyone socialize and get to know each other as individuals, not just Marine versus Fleet?”

Lardel, CAG

“I think that is a wonderful idea,” Freja replied, “We could hold it in the observation lounge.”

~Freja Andreassen~

“Your ship, Skipper. You make the call and we will be there. And maybe we can make this rotation one for other ships to learn from.” Hannibal said with a grin. He stood up and came to attention. “With your permission, Captain, I will get back to the Wing and get your full staus report logged.”

Lardel, CAG

bump

“Permission is granted, once again, it’s great to see you back on the Chimera,” Freja smiled, “If your wing needs anything from me, I’m certain you’ll let me know.”

~Freja Andreassen~

“I’ve never been one to stay quiet, now have I?” Lardel said with a smile and gave the Captain a salute and then turned and walked out the door with a wave.
