“We met while I was part of a fighter squadron assigned to Starbase 117 which was where Hallis was first officer at the time,” Freja explained, “We didn’t become romantically involved while I was serving there, but we became good friends during that time. He was an engineer prior to switching to the command track and is rather interested in smaller ship systems, like fighters, just as a general interest so we bonded over a mutual love of fighters I guess you could say. I’m not an engineer by any stretch, but I do know my way around fighter systems simply because I felt if I was flying them, I should understand how they work and how to repair them. He often contacted me after that assignment for advice on dealing with people, then randomly about a year after I’d left the Starbase assignment, my squadron and I were assigned to extract some operatives from a sticky situation and he turned out to be one of the operatives. Our fighters took on fire, Hallis and I survived a crash landing on a M-class planet, we had to survive while we waited on rescue. We tried to repair the fighter, but she held together long enough to get us safely onto the surface of Lumen III. Fortunately for us, no natives, just vegetation and some animal life. I suppose you could say it was the classic ‘we survived near death together’ type of relationship.”

“That sounds romantic…in a sense.”

Freja leaned back, “I suppose we work because we both understand each other and we don’t try to change the other. He doesn’t act all superior or judgy when I express an emotion and I don’t expect him to openly express his emotions. I suppose it has helped that I’m a child of interspecies relations, essentially. While I’d say is easier to integrate Betazoid and Human traditions, it is not without challenge of course. I guess it taught me to be understanding and willing to find a solution that both of us are willing to accept. Hallis struggled a bit in the beginning of our relationship, but he continues to be willing to put in the work, so I think I’ll keep him,” she finished with a fond smile.

Keitah could not help but smile at the Captain’s story. “Well I stand corrected. I guess not all Vulcans are difficult. Just the ones I have ever encountered.” She put her last notes in her PaDD then said, “I hope to meet Hallis one day, so I can get a new perspective on Vulcans.” She stood and said, “Thank you, Captain Andreassen, for allowing me to ambush you in your office and take up some of your time. You will be happy to know that from our conversation I have deemed you intelligent, logical and fit to continue your duties.” She gave a teasing smile. “I would like to reassess you and the crew after every mission and at least one every Earth year if there is no reason for any of you to visit me sooner.”

Naisyr, Counselor

“That sounds perfectly acceptable,” Freja replied with a smile.

“Alrighty then I will get out of your office and leave you to your work.” Keitah stood and exited the ready room. She paused a moment to see who her next patient was....Mr. Daneg, a Ferengi. Not her favorite species to interact with being a Betazoid, but she had a duty to all crew on the Chimera.

Naisyr, Counselor

“Counselor,” Freja nodded as Keitah left, once the door closed she briefly glanced at her remaining paperwork and opted to pause it for now.

The meeting had reminded her that she should compose and send her husband a message. With both of their busy commands, neither was absolutely certain when the other would be available for a video call and while they did try and do that often enough, sending messages back and forth served to close some of the distance between them. It was a tip she picked up from her parents and grandparents who often had to spend time apart due to their duties.

Hallis hadn’t been totally sold on the idea, but seemed a little more willing when she told him he could just tell her about his day and that she wasn’t expecting any sort of massive show of emotion from him. She just wanted to hear his voice more so than anything else, even if it was about mundane everyday command things.
