Hannibal had gone to do, well whatever it was that he needed to do to finalize their arrival. Better him than her. Iris was not likely to smooth anything over with anyone. She tended to say and act without a filter and tell it like it was. She didn’t really care if people liked it. It was a hard lesson learned when she’d first joined the Federation Marines and landed on Earth.

Oni had gone to start the long process of medical check-ins for the entirety of the 214. Her squad would be up soon, and they would report as required, but for now, Siraa was on the flight deck helping to haul cargo out of the troop transports. Siraa was thankful for efficient labelling. Chief Hassler had the wingnuts all running at efficiency. Tools, spare parts, maintenance equipment they had brought with them were being sent down to deck 14. Transport 10 and Lardel’s fighter were being sent down in the large lifts for maintenance. Beta, Charlie, and Delta squads’ birds were being taken down to the hanger and Alpha’s set up on the flight line ready to go.

Grumpy and one of the SAR aviators were hauling crates into the squad ready rooms and pilot briefing room to the side of the flight deck. In short order those rooms were prepped with flight group and squad insignia, awards, banners, and various items. Chairs and tables were moved from room to room to ensure the right amount of workspace for each squad. Lardel’s aide was making sure flight ops was set up and working to the CAGs specifications, so Siraa didn’t mess with that. She hauled crates up to the CAG and Squad leader offices and left them to the side of the door ways. She would have time enough later to ‘personalize’ her office space.

Coming back down the ladder she heard “Captain” called out across the deck and looked up to see a Sgt jogging towards her. “What is Sgt?” The woman came to a halt and crisp attention. “We’re trying to get the personal gear ready to transport to quarters but we haven’t been given assignments yet. We don’t know where to send it.”

Siraa pulled a small PaDD out of the cargo pocket of her pants and scanned through the files they were sent before Lardel left for his meetings. “Aviators will all go to deck 16, bunked in groups of 4. All other flight crew will go to deck 20, billeted with the rest of the marines.” Lucky them, Iris thought. A bed was a bed, but she’d rather be in whatever passed for Marine country. Practice kept the thought to herself. “They will also bunk in groups of 4. Tell them to check the squad rooms, I’ll get the list of assignments posted.” Soon the displays in the squad rooms lit up with a list of who was being bunked where and with whom.

Finally everything was off loaded and sitting in stacks on anti-grav sleds by the large doors to the flight deck. “Alright let’s get this stuff and ourselves out of Hassler and the wingnuts’ way. Get settled and then we’ll meet on deck 8 at the crew lounge for a meal before we report back for further orders. Dismissed.” Those not on duty filed out of the flight deck taking bags and duffels with them.

Siraa grabbed her bag and made a fast stop to find her quarters on deck 16. A double room, to be shared, but so far no one assigned. She tossed her bag on the bed of the left side bedroom and pulled out a clean kelly green duty uniform. Siraa preferred her flight suit, but she wasn’t scheduled to fly at the moment, so duty uniform it was. Then she left to make a tour of deck 16 and make sure everyone had found their bunk. If there were any personality conflicts between the assignments they would be worked out because they did not want her, Shinzo, or Lardel getting involved. Next stop was deck 20 to check on the flight crew there and to introduce herself to her Battalion counter part. There would be more official introductions and conversations later. After all Siraa’s squad would be in charge of providing their transportation. For now though it was just to put a name with a face.

Less than an hour later, Siraa entered the crew lounge on Deck 8. She had to admit she liked it wasn’t designated for only officers or enlisted, but for everyone. She took a seat at a table and watched as in the next 15 minutes there was so much green in the room it almost drowned out the standard fleet blue/grey carpeting and beige walls.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta Sqd Leader

Spartacus had only been on the ship a short time. This was the hard part of transferring; getting adjusted. There was always seemed to be a series of groups.
He entered the lounge and saw a place that seemed emptied. “Is this seat taken?”

Neidell

Siraa looked up, as did the other Marines sitting near her. Her antenna curled forward in curiosity. She had to admit she admired the man for approaching and even daring to join them. Not many would. Under the table her foot pushed the chair out. “It will be when you sit. Join us,” she said with a quirk of the lips. They didn’t see eye to eye, Marine Corps and Star Fleet, but they were going to have to work side by side and together at times. Siraa understood her actions right now would set the tone for everyone in the lounge right now.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Sparty hadn’t noticed that he had come upon the marine contingent. “Thanks.” He sat down. “Spartacus Neidell, chief of science.”

Neidell

“You’re welcome.” She held out her hand to Spartacus. “Marine Captain Siraa sh’Rharror, delta squardon leader.” She waved around the room, “And these are the Marines of the newly arrived Marine Flight Group Two-One-Four.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Lt. Burcham had finished all his check ins and decided it was time to relax. He walked in and ordered a drink. As he was waiting for it, he scanned the room for a seat. After he got his drink, he walked over to it. Beside his table, was a table filled with a group that looked like the Federation’s marines and a science officer. He looked over at them and waved.
Lt. Burcham, CoS

Siraa watched the comparatively short security officer approach. The uniform said Operations division, the way he carried himself announced ‘security’. The tall Andorian glanced around keeping an eye on her fellow marines. Most of the time the other departments in Star Fleet weren’t an issues, but there was something about Federation Marines and Star Fleet Security…they seemed to butt heads a lot. There would be none of that, at least not today. Several we’re looking at the man, some curiosity and some appraisal, but she did not see any aggression or animosity.

She set her glass down when he waved and reached across and offered her hand. “Mar Cpt sh’Rharror.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

He took her hand and they shook, “Lt. Burcham, the new Chief of Security, I seen all the marines over here, and wanted to introduce myself, and get acquainted now, so later we don’t have any issues, as I assume we will be working somewhat closely together and I’ve heard rumors from previous posts, my department causes you all the most trouble, and I’d like to avoid that if I can.” He stated as he let go of her hand.
Lt. Burcham, CoS

Siraa grinned, cocky and far too appraising. “In all honesty Lt. I think the giving of problems go both ways.” She sat back after he released her hand. “I appreciate it. As for the logistics of working together, that would be our Colonel’s domain. And none of us,” she waved about at the large contingent of marines in the room, “want to suffer his wrath for stepping out of line, or stepping on toes.” There were a few grins and more groans. They all knew Lardel’s speech about it. “We try to stay to our designated space. Though pride and ego can get in the way at times.” There were incredulous looks thrown her way and a snort from a tall Vulcan the next table over, “You know all about that Cpt.” Sirra shrugged with a grin. She turned back to Burcham. “So you are new here as well. Where are you transferring from?”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

OOC: Sorry for butting in. I need to post.

IC: “She is quite right Lieutenant.” Shinzo said passing by when he overhead her. “If anyone from our side gives you grief. Please come to Captain sh’Ronahr and myself. It doesn’t matter which Squadron. We help each other out. We of course will do the same for you. A lot less paperwork that way and Justice gets served, if applicable.”

Major Shinzo “Oni” Honda Bravo Squadron Leader

OOC: By all means please join us!

IC: Several marines called out greetings to their 2IC. Siraa looked up glad to see another commanding officer arrive. “Major, care to join us?”

With a smile on his face. “Of course Captain!” He say down with the bunch while he waved at his troops.

She pushed the chair beside her out with her foot. “They seem content to be at mess for the moment.” A member of the wait staff came over and glanced at the rank, “Major, would you like anything to eat or drink?”

“Ah! Yes. Today is my cheat day but I’m still reluctant to order it since Siraa is sitting next to me. But I would like a double cheeseburger with all the fixings and a side of onion rings. And to drink I’ll have a strawberry shake. And thank you for getting the rank correct. That means a lot to me.”

Siraa chuckled, “I don’t care what you eat as long as you still fit in the cockpit.” The waiter smiled and nodded, “Marine or Fleet we are all crew. This isn’t the first carrier I’ve served on, so I learned to recognize the insignia a long time ago.” He turned to Siraa, “Major would you like hot water or Katheka?”

Siraa perked up, “You have Katheka? Shoshi! I would enjoy that very much. Thank you.” The waiter left to collect their orders.

Siraa waved at her would be companions. “Major Shinzo Honda, this is Lt. Burcham chief of security, and Lt Spartacus Neidell the chief science officer.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Oh wow! And I thought I was sitting in the presence of Greatness already.” He motioned towards Siraa. “But seriously. Pleased to meet you both.”

Major Shinzo Oni Honda Bravo Squadron Leader

“Nobody likes paperwork.” Lt. Burcham responded to the Major, after all the discussions and orders were made. Then he turned back to Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, “I was on the USS Constellation before they decommissioned it.” He answered.
Lt Burcham CoS

Shinzo stared at the CoS for a moment after he just abruptly answered his question like it was common knowledge then completely dismissed him and went straight to taking to Siraa again like he wasn’t there. I can see where this going… he said to himself in his head.

Siraa’s antenna waved back and forth. “Mythology Class wasn’t she? Massive ship. I saw one in passing once at Starbase 52. It is always a shame when a ship gets decomissioned.”

The waiter returned placing things down and turned to Burcham and Neidell. “Lts? Can I get you both anything else?”

“Where do you call home, Burcham?” The cpt asked.

OOC: adding here to answer
Rusty
IC:
Lt. Burcham ordered a juice and turned back to the Cpt. “I’m from Ohio, on Earth.”

“Major!?” A big Orion called from a couple tables away. “What do you think? Sgt Rrek or Cpt sh’Rharror in the next PT qualifiers?” Sgt Trizim Rrek was a fine specimen of Klingon femininity. Which meant she packed a punch, took one, and got up and kept going. She was a tank. The sparing matching between Rrek and sh’Rharror were fierce and attracted a lot of attention. The competition with their PT scores was no less. Siraa looked up, antenna waving with amusement and shrugged. Siraa didn’t care if she won or lost to Rrek because in the end they both put their all into it, got a good workout, and more especially honed their skills. Siraa was much more competitive when it came to the flight qualifiers.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Shinzo quickly looked around when he heard the rank of Major betting yelled out thinking that there was a problem. Seeing as it wasn’t he laughed. “I don’t rightfully know. Both of them are training very hard. So to me there are a couple winners here. First off both of them for their hardwork and commitment. Secondly because of them some of you all are taking PT a bit more seriously and thirdly, We as a team are better because they are better!” Turning back around he cleared his throat and spoke to the Starfleet officers there. “Sorry about that. They get excited.” Turning to sh’Rharror. I don’t know Rek can get through doors and you still look slim and fit in a cockpit! It’s mind blowing to think that you two are in the same shape PT wise! How do you still manage to look so…” He was trying to find the right word to not get written up…”slender?”

Major Shinzo Oni Honda Bravo Squadron Leader

Rek pounded a fist on the table in amusement. “It will be glorious combat!” And she raised her drink towards Siraa. The big Orion shrugged, “I still like the odds.” Siraa knew about the betting pools. She never participated. The thrill of competition and honing one’s skill was exciting enough.

Sirra’s antenna waved about in amusement. “We are in the same class because we both know that winning is based on skill and tactics, not brute strength.” Siraa shrugged, “Some of it is my Andorian exoskeleton, some of it is when standing next to Rek our differences are more apparent. Mostly it’s because I work to maintain my…slenderness, as you put it.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Shinzo started laughing and raised his glass up in salute to her as well. “Well, that explains it. You two remind me of the Mandalorian training camps located on the jungle moon of Dexu. They train to not beat their opponent but to learn more about themselves..and their opponents. Well done ladies. Well done indeed.”

Major Shinzo “Oni” Honda, Bravo SQLD

Lt. Burcham listened to them talking about the PT Qualifiers with interest. He had been taught and trained on Marines being aboard, but this was the first time working with them, so he was intrigued by their practices.
Lt Burcham, CoS

Looking at the two Starfleet officers in front of him he noticed the CoS staring intently. “And what do you think Lieutenant..Burcham, is it? Do you all have a similar PT advancement besides the regular one? I have to say how impressed I am with some of your officers not only being physically fit but very professional. This is by far the best Starfleet ship I have been on.”

Major Shinzo “Oni” Honda, Bravo SQLD

Siraa nodded, her antenna turning forward and swaying slightly. “I have to agree. We’ve only been here a few hours, but this crew is the most welcoming I’ve encountered.” There was an array of officers, fleet and marines, in the lounge, and so far there had been no angry out bursts or flying fists. Siraa counted that as good.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Yes, Burcham, or you can call me Drake.” Lt. Burcham responded to the Major. “No, just the regular one, but I am intrigued by your discussion and may look into this program and seeing if I can incorporate a few aspects of these qualifiers in our training programs. Keep our security officers on their toes and in tip top shape.” He continued addressing the Major.
Lt Burcham, CoS.

Shinzo nodded. “That is great to hear. The Captain and I will be more than happy to help you with one. But we would not want any Starfleet versus Marine type games right now. Those kind of always go bad, even if punches are not thrown but salty losers on both sides says the exact same thing, “I can’t believe I lost to” insert whichever department here. When I was the Commander of the 3rd Special Forces Group, we would have a big obstacle course race that was timed against all of the other branches Special Forces. It did consist of a long obstacle course, but also a firing range, hand to hand combat, hostage extrusion exercises, etc.. You can do that for your department, scaled down of course, and then start competing with other ships security departments. It is a great way to keep in shape and hone your skills. What do you think about that?”

Major Shinzo “Oni” Honda, Bravo :Leader

Siraa nodded, “We typically set the hand-to-hand to be against a holographic opponent and keep score that way for the leaderboards. We add in actual sparing matches much later. It prevents the formation of aggression. Of course we also have our flight simulations and flight combat practice.” She turned to Shinzo, “That reminds me. While I was getting the 214 settled, the Battalion Commander asked if we would want to do combined PT qualifiers once we’re settled. I told him to talk to you or Lardel. Still marines but you know how some of the aviators can get.” It was something Siraa thought would be a good idea. Marines vs Marines rather than Star Fleet. She thought some vs Fleet would be good, as long as tempers, on both sides could be maintained.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Oh. Absolutely! That is a great idea. Tell Lardel that I and my troops are game.”

Major Shinzo “Oni” Honda, Bravo Leader

“I’m sure a holodeck program could be created for us to use for our own interdepartmental trainings on each course. Every Security officer aboard every vessel would run the program, then each ship’s CoS fleet wide could keep track of their own personnel’s records and maybe post it to command so everyone can see how they did against everyone else using the same parameters for each course and obstacle in every holodeck simulation.” Lt. Burcham pondered outloud as he was imagining what the program would look like.
Lt Burcham, CoS

Siraa nodded, “That’s the idea. The program we use runs from novice to expert. Sometimes we run groups and of course it can be accessed individually. There is a practice and assessment mode. Practice scores aren’t rereported.” She nodded to Shinzo, “Major Honda found that reviewing the scores and watching the progression is a good way to find potential recruits for the flight team.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“That is a great idea from you both. Let’s do it!”

Shinzo Honda, Bravo Leader
