Hannibal had set the expectation and so IRIS, against her preferences made rhe appointment for the ship’s Fleet counselor. She’d had these evals before. In theory she had no problem with them. A marine that was struggling could put the reast of the Air Group at risk. Siraa just found that Fllet counselors didn’t know how to deal with marines. It was a different mind set, a different kind of person. Nothing wrong with that, Siraa would have never made it in Star Fleet, and she knew a lot of good Fleet officers that would never make it in the marines.

So at the appointed time she made her way from her office on deck11 down to deck 33. Really who thought if that? Putting the counseling suite in the bowels, the dungeon, of a ship. She was sure that made people all warm and fuzzy. She stepped off the lift, her duty uniform emmaculate and approached the designated office and pressed the chime. She took a pace back and stood “at ease” while she waited.

As the chime rang, Keitah eyes widened and she sat straight up in her chair, Oh that must be Marine Captain sh’Rharror! she thought in a little excited voice. Her evaluation with Colonel Hannibal Lardel had gone so well that she was looking forward to this one. “Captain sh’Rharror,” she said loudly “please come in!” She stood up from her seat to greet her.

Siraa stepped through the door at the loud summons and paced across the office and came to a very stiff and precise attention. She looked the woman square in the eyes without blinking. “Lt Naisyr, I am Mar Cpt sh’Rharror. I am here for my mandated mental health evaluation.” Her antenna curled slightly forward, the only part of her that moved.

“Captain sh’Rharror. I am glad you are here. I take it you have not had very much interaction with counselors? Please come sit.” She offered the Andorian woman a seat, in the small sitting area that was made up of two cushioned chairs and a small table. “Tell me how can I make you more comfortable. Are you hungry? Can I get you something to drink before we began our talk?”

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa looked at her as if examining a target on her HUD. “You take it wrong, Ma’am. I have plenty of experience with counselors. Despite popular belief the marine corps takes excellent care of us, as does the Andorian Imperial Guard.” Siraa made a very crisp and perfect about face and sat in the chair indicated. “No thank you. We all ate in the lounge after arrival. We met several of the crew and the Marine Battalion.” She smirked. This woman would find it impossible to make IRIS uncomfortable. “Please proceed, counselor.”

“I see. The Colonel did tell me about the excellent care you get as a Marine, but I was not…am not aware of how the Andorian Imperial Guard provided it’s care. An opportunity to make connections. I am sure.” Keitah went to the replicator to make herself some tea. “So Captain sh’Rharror, judging your demeanor when you first entered, I thought you might be put off by counselors, but you have stated that is not the case. So then my next guess is that you don’t want to here. You’d rather be somewhere…anywhere else.” She came back to the sitting area, placing the tea on the table and looked at the woman.

Siraa’s brows rose and her antenna straightened. “I think, Lieutenant you are mistaking strict military discipline for…apathy or dislike. I was ordered to be here and so I am. It is part of my duty. I neither anticipate it nor do I avoid it. And yes I have many other places I could be, but my squad is more than capable of functioning without me while I attend to this duty. Which is where I am supposed to be right now.” She returned the woman’s stare without blinking.

Keitah wasn’t trying to be in a staring contest with the Andorian woman so she broke their eye contact. “I probably am. I don’t know one way or the other because I am trying not to use my telepathic abilities to determine anything about you. I want to have a conversation with you. So why don’t we start with you telling me something about yourself? Anything that you are comfortable sharing. For example, why the Marines?”

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa nodded, “That is wise. We are trained to block and confuse telepaths.” Who the ‘we’ was would be open for a guess. “Why the Marines? That is simple because Lt Colonel Lardel chose me. I served proudly,” she sat up straighter, formal, pride oozing off of her, “as a Lt and Tactical flight leader of the Andorian Defense Service. I was honored to fight along side the Federation Marines at the Siege Of Ahiht on Binoria. Colonel Lardel was impressed with my performance, no small feat I can assure you, and sponsored me in the Marines. I have served under him ever since.” There was pride in her voice, affection for a strong mentor and a bit of hero worship as well.

“We?” She asked “Are you referring to Andorians, Marines or both?”

“Andorians, Ma’am. It is a hold over from our conflicts with the Vulcans. We have found it to be a beneficial skill to have considering how many telepathic species there are and how many shady, to use the human term, organizations hire them,” Siraa said matter of fact lying.

After considering her response she asked another question, “”When Colonel Lardel approached you or when you learned that he had personally picked you to join his team, what did you think of that? Had you known about the Marines before his offer and did you have any conflict with leaving the Andorian Defense Service to join the Marines?”

Naisyr, Counselor

“I knew of the Marines, of course. We study their tactics in Chekthora. Binoria was the first time I fought along side them. It was a great privilege to do so. They are outstanding soldiers. I was severely injured during that battle and the prospect of additional training and learning was a welcome alternative to convalescence in a hospital. The Colonel sponsored my enrollment with the blessing of my General, Eross th’Tahlar. It wasn’t until later he recruited me to his fighter wing.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Do you think most species, with telepathic abilities, use their abilities to gain an advantage over others?” She’d picked up the Andorian woman might have an adversion to her but wasn’t aware of the reason until now.

After she’d finished Keitah said, “I can see how proud you are to serve in your Marine squadron also of your service in the Andorian Imperial Guard. From what you just told me, It seems you were severely injured in battle, however, as I look at you I can’t tell that you have ever been. You must be very strong and resilient. From your perspective how was your recovery after your injury? Do you think it has affected you, positively or negatively, in any way?
