The ready room was full. All the wing and group leaders were seated and talking when the door opened and Hannibal walked in.
“Alright, shut your mouths.” he said as he ways did when he was starting an Ops briefing. The lights dimmed and a holo came up of a system of five planets around a central star. “This, boys and girls, is Mesx. Independent system, but with ties to the Federation. Enough ties that they called in a favor and here. We. Are.” He magnified the third planet. “Mesx Prime. Home to seven hundred and eighty-five thousand. Mostly agrarian. This-” and he zoomed in again on an orbital structure, “- is their space station. Their life blood. Everything they ship off-world or get from elsewhere comes through here.” and he froze the image and looked at the group. “Three days ago pirates with a group called ‘Ancient Sons’, flying old destroyers and cruisers with a giant red circle on the sides, blockaded the station and are holding for ransom. Mesx, being a pacifist society, asked the Federation to help them pay it. The Federation, not being a pacifist society, is sending us instead. Our orders are simple. Show up, ask them very politely to leave. If they don’t…” and he grinned, “… well, I guess we get to see how Oni deals with people flying the old flag of his people and using it to extort farmers.” and ther was a soft laugh from everyone.
