After the party last week and the way he has been feeling, he decided it was time to do his appointment with the CNS. Plus, it was an order from the man himself. He needed to properly apologize for his actions towards her and her assistant and to get things off his chest to make his mental load lighter. Taking in a big breath and letting it out he pressed the chime on her door and waited.

Keitah had been expecting Major Honda to arrive. She’d be lying to herself if she said she wasn’t nervous about this meeting. Instead of going to the sitting area, she decided she would conduct this session while sitting at her desk. The desk between them would give her the security she needed. Major Honda would sit in the chair directly in front of it. When she heard the chime, she called out, “Come on in Major. The door is open.”

Naisyr, Counselor

Major Honda came in wearing his dress uniform with all of his medals and badges on full display. There were a lot of them and some very high-level ones as well. Walking up to the desk he came to attention. “Major Shinzo Honda reporting Ma’am.” With that he relaxed but did not take a seat. “Thank you for agreeing to see me. First and foremost, I want to apologize for my behavior at your party the other night. That is an oversight that is in the process of being corrected so it will not happen again, here or anywhere.”

Shinzo “Oni” Honda Bravo Squadron Leader

“That is quite an impressive ensemble you are wearing there.” She said as she eyed all his metals.with a smile. “Please have a seat Major.” She motioned to the chair in front of her desk. “I do appreciate the apology, however I cannot accept it because I am the one who owes you an apology.” She clasped her hands together. “I put you in an uncomfortable situation. Everything you said was right about me being insensitive.” He didn’t quite say it that way but she got the message. “I ruined what was supposed to be a fun event for you. For that, I want to apologize to you and I want to assure you I will be more mindful next time.” She paused “I hope there will be a next time.” Then she held out her hand to shake his as a truce.

Naisyr, Counselor

He shook her hand before sitting down. “We both were not right that night and I will accept yours if you accept mine. I would love to have another get together.” He took a seat. “Thank you for the compliment about my medals. I wore this for a reason. To show you what an amazing Marine I am in and out of battle. As you can see, I wear the Special Forces Badge and was a Special Forces Commander for a period of years. I have high medals for bravery. All of this to again, show you that I should not have lost my cool at the party. I know better than that and I am better than that. Now. With that said, where do you want to begin for this formal counseling session?”

Keitah wasn’t sure about another get-together since the last one almost ended with some of the crew of the Chimera and the Marines fighting. Although she was a trained Starfleet officer, mostly in the defensive tactics to prevent injury or harm, she preferred to avoid those types of situations. “I have no doubt you are an amazing Marine. I also admire how you came up to Ensign Harper and apologized even though he was clearly out of line since you are a higher-ranking officer than he is. That gesture was not lost on me. It does take bravery and honor to make a move like that. Also, it does tell me a lot about your personality, others would have thrown their rank around to get respect but you didn’t do that.”

“That is how I am. My people respect me with or without the rank and most people not in the military or the Fleet, do as well. It is how I present myself.”

She smiled as she stood from her desk, feeling a lot more comfortable. She went to the replicator. “Can I get you something?” she asked as she gestured toward the replicator.

“Yes. A cold beer would be nice.” He said flatly and then smiled at her. “I am kidding. A glass of orange juice would be great.”

“To start I would like to know more about you. Your nickname Oni you said it means demon? Tell me how you got it.”

Naisyr, Counselor

He smiled a wicked smile before telling her and accepting the glass of juice and took a sip before continuing. “Oni are mostly known for their fierce and evil nature manifested in their propensity for murder and cannibalism. The later is what got me my nickname. Being Japanese helped as well. Notwithstanding their evil reputation, Oni possess intriguingly complex aspects that cannot be brushed away simply as evil. They are typically portrayed as hulking figures with one or more horns growing out of their heads but can come in wide range of sizes. They are creatures which instill fear and feelings of danger due to their grotesque outward appearance, their wild and sometimes strange behavior and their powers. That is why the Samurai of the past wore those masks in combat. It was to instill fear into their opponents. My flight helmet looks like an old samurai helmet. Oni have the ability to sneak up on people and or not be seen unless they wanted to. I too share this trait. I have snuck up many enemies and have killed them without them or others around noticing. If I can. I always try to cut a piece of their flesh off and eat it. It started off with ears but they were too crunchy and not enough meat, then their eyes but they were too squishy. So, the best part is the inner forearm or upper chest. That is why earlier I said that the later was how I truly got my nickname. And yes. If you are wondering. I am being serious. I have won a few battles with just the mention of my name.” He cooly took another drink of his juice.

Major Shinzo “Oni” Honda, Bravo Squadron Leader

“I see.” Said Keitah, “May I ask a question? Why have you picked such a fearsome creature to represent yourself? It seems your have even taken on the characteristics and traits of this being. Is it important to you that people or other beings fear you?”

Naisyr, Counselor

He sat his drink down before continuing. “Yes and no ma’am. I chose the Oni because I am Japanese and they are a Japanese demon. They embody what is evil with the world and now the galaxy. People and now, other beings are cruel in nature and no matter how good someone is, either in spirit, attitude or with a blaster. They still have to do evil things to accomplish the good. Meaning their intent is good and for a good cause, but they still have to do the bad in order to do it. Remember Counselor. Both sides are the good guys and both sides are the bad guys. Good and evil is a point of view. I learned early on being short and small in build to use my weakness to my advantage. I am an expert in five martial arts, I am well-toned and if you feel my muscles or any part of my body, it would feel like Mahagony. I realized that I was a physical embodiment of an Oni while in Special Forces. My particular squad was called “The Zombie Squad”. We handled the missions that needed to be done at all costs. We were the last resort and the best of the best. We would kill whoever needed it, no matter the age. The mission will get done and it always did. That is where I developed my…habit, so to speak. I even wore an Oni mask. Similar to what Samurai of old used to wear but not as big. It served me well then, but now that I am no longer part of the SF, I sort of mellowed out and have not done anything like for a long time. I even had to take a year sabbatical when I left SF so that I could slowly get back in touch with....with…reality. I underwent counseling and the like and still do. Hopefully you will get my file soon, so you can help me more. I would very much appreciate that. I hope that answered your question?” He picked back up his drink and took another sip.

“I don’t know if I agree 100% with the methods. Especially on the killing of beings of any age. However, I understand that Marines are employed to do things that other organizations, such as Starfleet, wouldn’t do. You took on this persona to be able to do what was required of you and it seems that some of the things you did took a toll on you. You had to take some time off and you even went to counseling. Tell me what do you feel was the most significant progress you made in your previous counseling sessions?”

Naisyr, Counselor

“I understand counselor. You do not have to agree with anything but know that this is a reality. I do prefer to talk my way out of things and killing is a last resort, but it must be done in order for the good of the people or beings to move on. Do not mistake me with a common murderer. These are strategic targets and have been deemed to have their spark snuffed out by some bureaucrat. Left alive, these beings would have done an untold great many atrocities, even more so than they already have. Some were beings that were killed in combat. At that point, it is either them or me. I do realize that these beings are or were someone’s, father, son, daughter, mother, and so am I and my troops. At the end of the day, it is them or us. Period. And lady. If you think your precious Starfleet wouldn’t kill anyone…I have a bridge to sell you. Where do you think the orders come from? We fall under the jurisdiction of the Starfleet Commander-in-Chief, but not under the auspices of Starfleet itself. But it still comes from Starfleet. Like the days of old, the Marines were its own separate branch of the military, but it still was commander by the Navy. Just like now.” He took a couple sips of his drink before continuing with the other part of her question.

“I see.” It was the term she used when she didn’t want to speak fearing she would sound too judgy. She always tried to stay away from that. However, she found herself fascinated with the story.

OOC: It is ok to be judgy here. That is how we do character growth.

Sitting the empty cup down on the table he leaned back into the chair again. “I would have to say that you are correct in the assumption that this persona I have taken on as you put, has consumed some of myself. The best part of my previous counseling sessions was pointing out those areas and re-training myself to be quote, end quote, normal again. It has been a long journey and I still need counseling to achieve this. Most likely for the rest of my life. I have been very truthful with you. I never lie and I never will. That gets people nowhere. Truth is I am afraid to let go certain points of my so called persona because I feel it will not make me combat effective in the cockpit of my aviator. I would like to let go of certain points but feel I would not be me anymore, even though that was not me to begin with. This extra persona has consumed parts of me like a cancer. Cutting it out might kill me and leaving it in might do the same.” He looked around a bit before resting his eyes on his empty cup. Picking up the cup he said in a mixture of frustration and defeat; “Can I have some more Orange juice please?”

Keitah looked at the cup and smiled, “Of course, Major.” She took the cup, went to the replicator, and requested a refill of orange juice. While she waited for the cup to fill she said, “Can I ask you a question? What is normal like for you? I mean I would like to know who Shinzo Honda was before he took on his Oni persona.”

Naisyr, Counselor

His eyes widened a bit at the question. “I guess it is me training, either in martial arts, the flight simulator, and hanging with my troops doing drills. I guess the main point, I do try is to push myself hard so I do not look weak in front of my troops, My commander, or any Marine period. That is my normal day. What I would like to do is just read and paint. But I can’t seem to find the time for that since I joined. I read tactic PaDDs and the like, but not just to be able to sit down by a fire and read without trying to Oni all the damn time.” He let out a hard breath. “Thank you again for the juice and your time.”
