NE Sprocket ducked behind a pillar, trying to provide cover fire to try and distract everyone from whatever the XO had planned.

~NE Sprocket~

Around the melee of chaos in the fighting ballistic rounds pinged, and cries of pain from both sides echoed. The rebels were giving as good as they got, but the group even with the Starfleet folks were out numbered. They needed to act quickly in some way ot level the playing field. Given they were deep underground in a hardened complex fighter support likely wasn’t viable, nor was orbital strikes of any such precision. Cackling like the mad man he clearly had turned into the Commandant remained on this throne, the crystal still seeping energies into him and around the room into his followers, including those among the survey team they had come to rescue.

“Cover me!” Lunan called out over the din, gripping his phaser in one hand and rolling to the next available point of cover, trying to seek out the crystals powering the forcefield.

Lunan found himself a better vantage point behind a pillar and fired two beams into the crystal, waiting to see the effect.

The phaser’s whine soon hit the crystal’s projected shield. The effect it produced was almost immediate after about 3 seconds or so of resistance the shield failed and the beam struck the crystal. Another three seconds later and a hum built up then flared cascading a bright flash of light across the room blinding everyone for a good ten full seconds causing the combat to cease for that time and cries of surprise and pain and thuds in places were heard. Just as their vision returned slowly the sound of sparking energy came to their ears then the cries of agony of the Commandant bellowed across the room. As their vision cleared as suddenly as the sound came the had the brief vision of the Commandant’s body spasming from an electrical discharge before he was distingrated to ash on his throne. The crystal behind him had also shattered into ash, much of its structure falling to dust. But a singular core large bit, about 40% of its original size still remained on the throne’s base.

The effects on those following the Commandant seemed equally immediate. All just simply clutched their heads in pain and collapsed unconscious, including the disguised survey team they had come to rescue. The rebel’s leader turned to the group, “..Well it seems the Commandant has met his end. You said earlier I belive you sought friends of yours here? Find them and take them then, and take that..” she pointed to the crystals remain, “..as well with you so such a foul source of evil can not corrupt our society any further. Then be gone back to the heavens whence you came..” she said.

Within the next hour the away team had their survey team back safely aboard the Chimera. They also had secured the remains of the crystal core and its powdered remains. Starfleet put in an order that a survey ship would place an isolation beacon in orbit of the planet to keep out further efforts for now until a clean up crew could be assigned to undo the damage this strange crystal and the Commandant had caused.

For now their mission was over and they were recalled back to Starbase 157 for repairs, reassignments, and rest until their next mission.

OOC: End sim! On that note I’m out all. Take care!
