Hannibal had set the expectation and so IRIS, against her preferences made rhe appointment for the ship’s Fleet counselor. She’d had these evals before. In theory she had no problem with them. A marine that was struggling could put the reast of the Air Group at risk. Siraa just found that Fllet counselors didn’t know how to deal with marines. It was a different mind set, a different kind of person. Nothing wrong with that, Siraa would have never made it in Star Fleet, and she knew a lot of good Fleet officers that would never make it in the marines.

So at the appointed time she made her way from her office on deck11 down to deck 33. Really who thought if that? Putting the counseling suite in the bowels, the dungeon, of a ship. She was sure that made people all warm and fuzzy. She stepped off the lift, her duty uniform emmaculate and approached the designated office and pressed the chime. She took a pace back and stood “at ease” while she waited.

Mar Cpt , Delta SQLD

As the chime rang, Keitah eyes widened and she sat straight up in her chair, Oh that must be Marine Captain sh’Rharror! she thought in a little excited voice. Her evaluation with Colonel Hannibal Lardel had gone so well that she was looking forward to this one. “Captain sh’Rharror,” she said loudly “please come in!” She stood up from her seat to greet her.

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa stepped through the door at the loud summons and paced across the office and came to a very stiff and precise attention. She looked the woman square in the eyes without blinking. “Lt Naisyr, I am Mar Cpt sh’Rharror. I am here for my mandated mental health evaluation.” Her antenna curled slightly forward, the only part of her that moved.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Captain sh’Rharror. I am glad you are here. I take it you have not had very much interaction with counselors? Please come sit.” She offered the Andorian woman a seat, in the small sitting area that was made up of two cushioned chairs and a small table. “Tell me how can I make you more comfortable. Are you hungry? Can I get you something to drink before we began our talk?”

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa looked at her as if examining a target on her HUD. “You take it wrong, Ma’am. I have plenty of experience with counselors. Despite popular belief the marine corps takes excellent care of us, as does the Andorian Imperial Guard.” Siraa made a very crisp and perfect about face and sat in the chair indicated. “No thank you. We all ate in the lounge after arrival. We met several of the crew and the Marine Battalion.” She smirked. This woman would find it impossible to make IRIS uncomfortable. “Please proceed, counselor.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“I see. The Colonel did tell me about the excellent care you get as a Marine, but I was not…am not aware of how the Andorian Imperial Guard provided it’s care. An opportunity to make connections. I am sure.” Keitah went to the replicator to make herself some tea. “So Captain sh’Rharror, judging your demeanor when you first entered, I thought you might be put off by counselors, but you have stated that is not the case. So then my next guess is that you don’t want to here. You’d rather be somewhere…anywhere else.” She came back to the sitting area, placing the tea on the table and looked at the woman.

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa’s brows rose and her antenna straightened. “I think, Lieutenant you are mistaking strict military discipline for…apathy or dislike. I was ordered to be here and so I am. It is part of my duty. I neither anticipate it nor do I avoid it. And yes I have many other places I could be, but my squad is more than capable of functioning without me while I attend to this duty. Which is where I am supposed to be right now.” She returned the woman’s stare without blinking.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Keitah wasn’t trying to be in a staring contest with the Andorian woman so she broke their eye contact. “I probably am. I don’t know one way or the other because I am trying not to use my telepathic abilities to determine anything about you. I want to have a conversation with you. So why don’t we start with you telling me something about yourself? Anything that you are comfortable sharing. For example, why the Marines?”

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa nodded, “That is wise. We are trained to block and confuse telepaths.” Who the ‘we’ was would be open for a guess. “Why the Marines? That is simple because Lt Colonel Lardel chose me. I served proudly,” she sat up straighter, formal, pride oozing off of her, “as a Lt and Tactical flight leader of the Andorian Defense Service. I was honored to fight along side the Federation Marines at the Siege Of Ahiht on Binoria. Colonel Lardel was impressed with my performance, no small feat I can assure you, and sponsored me in the Marines. I have served under him ever since.” There was pride in her voice, affection for a strong mentor and a bit of hero worship as well.

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“We?” She asked “Are you referring to Andorians, Marines or both?”

“Andorians, Ma’am. It is a hold over from our conflicts with the Vulcans. We have found it to be a beneficial skill to have considering how many telepathic species there are and how many shady, to use the human term, organizations hire them,” Siraa said matter of fact lying.

After considering her response she asked another question, “”When Colonel Lardel approached you or when you learned that he had personally picked you to join his team, what did you think of that? Had you known about the Marines before his offer and did you have any conflict with leaving the Andorian Defense Service to join the Marines?”

Naisyr, Counselor

“I knew of the Marines, of course. We study their tactics in Chekthora. Binoria was the first time I fought along side them. It was a great privilege to do so. They are outstanding soldiers. I was severely injured during that battle and the prospect of additional training and learning was a welcome alternative to convalescence in a hospital. The Colonel sponsored my enrollment with the blessing of my General, Eross th’Tahlar. It wasn’t until later he recruited me to his fighter wing.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Do you think most species, with telepathic abilities, use their abilities to gain an advantage over others?” She’d picked up the Andorian woman might have an adversion to her but wasn’t aware of the reason until now.

Had Naisyr said she thought that was Siraa’s aversion Sirra would have set her straight. “Hardly, Counselor. That would be a poor assumption. However, just because most do not does not negate the fact that some do. Andoria learned that lesson in a very bloody way. And our training continues from that time period. Those of us not gifted with telepathy or empathy have the right to ensure the privacy of our thoughts, rather than relying in the innate goodness of the telepathic around us.” She looked at her, “Does it bother you if people do not willingly give you such free access to their thoughts?”

“I do not strive to access other beings’ thoughts. Also, I am a Betazoid so my telepathic abilities are not what you think. I can mostly feel emotions, I can’t really read or hear the thoughts....especially in the form of words from the mind. This is a misconception because some of us are highly advanced with our abilities that it can seem like we know what you are thinking.” She smiled and then said, “However to answer your question, I try not to let too many things bother me. Additionally, I do not expect anyone to do anything they do want to. If someone does not want me to have access to their thoughts, then that is their right. I should not feel one way or another about the matter. What happened on Andoria to make them vigilant against those with telepathic abilities?”

Siraa’s antena waved about as she listened. The counselor was half Betazoid then. That didn’t change Siraa’s demeanor in any way, it was just information that was filed away. “Andoria and Vulcan were at war for a long time counselor, and in a Cold War for quite a while as well. Given the Vulcan penchant for being able to extract information directly from the mind, my ancestors found it prudent to learn great mental discipline to counteract such and the loss of vital secure information from such techniques.”

Keitah now understood. Forcibly extracting information from someone by any means was typically against Betazoid’s philosophy. “Yes I have heard the Vulcans, although they deem themselves as a non-invasive and peaceful species, they can be quite aggressive and impertinent.

After she’d finished Keitah said, “I can see how proud you are to serve in your Marine squadron also of your service in the Andorian Imperial Guard. From what you just told me, It seems you were severely injured in battle, however, as I look at you I can’t tell that you have ever been. You must be very strong and resilient. From your perspective how was your recovery after your injury? Do you think it has affected you, positively or negatively, in any way?

Naisyr, Counselor

Her antenna waved about in amusement. “Injury is part of battle, Counselor. It is expected. They simply are. I would say my recovery was quite positive since I am still living, breathing, walking, and serving. My healing is a testament to the medical treatment I received and my willingness to follow the orders of my doctors. Only a fool disobeys their doctors. You do not see my injuries because the scars are across my arms and abdomen. I can remove my shirt if that would assist you in your assessment.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“No, that’s okay. I am sure the scars themselves can be a reminder of what you have endured. I will not make you show them to me.” She took a sip of tea then said, “Captain sh’Rharror can I have your honest opinion? What was your first impression of the Chimera and its crew?”

Naisyr, Counselor

Siraa shrugged about the scars. They were what they were. Given Andorian physiology scars were expected, they didn’t heal as completely, even with dermal regenerators, like humanoids. Andoria was a harsh environment and even those that didn’t serve were going to end up with a few marks. “I try not to judge too quickly or the whole based on a few. We’ve been here less than 24 Terran hours. The few Star Fleet crew I’ve met seem cautious and curious. I supervised as our squads for chow. The lounge staff was quite welcoming and helpful.”

OOC: So sorry, this slipped past me for quite awhile apparently. Please don’t hesitate to bump or tag me

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Keitah nodded, “Starfleet officers are welcoming by nature. Also very cautious of new acquaintances who they share space with. I am glad you found them welcoming and helpful. So, tell me about how you grew up? Did you have a close connection with your parents? Do you have any siblings? I am not familiar with the Andorian family structure. I would love to know more.”

Naisyr, Counselor

Welcoming by nature was not the phrase that Siraa would use to describe the majority of her encounters with Fleet personnel, but she didn’t think it was politic to say so. “I grew up in the caves of Wethesa City, on Andoria. We live in large connected homes with the rest of our Keths or clans. I was an only child but had lots of cousins. I grew up with all four of my parents. Thavan, Charan, and Zhavey were always at home. Shreva too when she wasn’t gone. She serves in the Imperial Guard. My favorite memories from childhood are from when they were all home together. Thavan was a poet and and Zhavey was a musician. They taught me to play the flabbjellah.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

“Oh,” said Keitah with wide surprised eyes, “So you had four parents. Is that typical for Andorians?”LeKeitah wanted to joke that she must have gotten lots of hugs but felt it probably wouldn’t go over well with Siraa. She didn’t know too much about Andorians or their customs and decided to play it safe.

Siraa would have told her that yes she did recieve a lot of hugs, but not just from her parents. The entire clan shared in the raising and maintaining of the family. Despite being a militaristic minded society, Andorians were extremely affectionate. “We, Andorians, are quad gendered. Than and Chan are equivalent to your male, and Shen and Zhen are similar to your females. All four genders are required for procreation. The gametes of the Than and Chan only carry a 4th of the genetic code. The Shen’s egg carries the other half, and only Zhens can carry and nurse the baby.”

“I love the cohesiveness of the family unit. Andorians seem to have a balance, that few civilizations have, in both military and family matters. Clearly everyone has their role. Your cousins and parents do you keep in contact with them?”

“The flabbjellah? I don’t think I have heard of that instrument. Did you bring it on the ship with you? If so maybe you can play it for us sometime.” As a lover of music Keitah appreciated all types and any instrument that made music.

Naisyr, Cousnelor

Siraa nodded, “Yes, I have it. We will see. A flabbjellah is also a weapon. It would be a shame if someone misunderstood, and thought I was brandishing it in aggression. However, I would be happy to play it. There are several of us in the air group that play together when we are all together. The different cultural instruments is quite inspiring.”

Mar Cpt sh’Rharror, Delta SQLD

Keitah loved music. “Is sounds like my kind of off duty haven. I have started a journal where I document the diffent types of musical instruments I have actually seen beings play. I would love to add the flabbjellah to this list. Maybe I can stop by and watch you and the others play?”
