Hurrying to catch on to the Catian double, Eleanor walked under her ship between the landing struts and pulled the access ladder down so that both the Admiral and the Science Chief could settle into the cockpit.

Moving into the tight space M’Ressa’s eyes expertly scanned the controls. While not the same as a Starfleet shuttle it had very similar paneling.

“Behind the navigation console you’ll find two stations. The one on the right is Sensor Ops, the one on the left is Flight Engineering. I can reroute the Engineering one through to my console, but one of yinz will still have to sit there while we fly.” She informed the pair before adding. “Make yourselves at home. I’ll be right up with you, just need to disengage the magnetic hatches and do some pre-flight checks.

M’Ressa nodded and said ,”I can man the Engineering console, Captain.” Sliding into the Engineering console she worked at familiarizing herself with the readouts as Sheriye took her place at the sensors.

Eleanor gave the Admiral a small smile and a nod in acknowledgment.

While not as spacious as a shuttle, the Ranger’s cockpit was far from uncomfortable. Powered down, the consoles were dark and the ambient light was off, but the chairs would still be clearly visible with the faint light that came in from the deck through the front of the cockpit.

Outside, having left the Admiral and the CSO behind so they could settle in, Eleanor disengaged the magnetic latches and walked around the Lady of Steel, conducting the usual checks she had repeated many times before. As she reached the nose of the vessel, she placed her open palm softly on the hull before muttering softly “Bring us back in one piece, okay?” She smiled softly before slipping under it and crossing the distance to the access ladder, quickly climbing on board.

As she settled on her seat, wiggling it softly as she did so, Carnegie tapped a few buttons and the consoles sprung to life. The Catians would be able to notice that while both the Engineering and Sensor consoles lit up with the usual red, yellow, and green color scheme, Carnegie’s console was permeated with bright shades or purple, orange, and blue. It was almost as if something was off, as it was definitely not the most pleasant setup to look at.

With a final tap on her console, Eleanor contacted Flight Ops.

=/\= Carnegie to Flight Ops. I have the Admiral and the Chief Science Officer on board. We are going to do a sensor sweep of the Chimera’s periphery. Requesting permission to depart. =/\=

CPT Carnegie, Recon Squad CO

=^=CIC. Captain Hawkins here. Captain Carnegie is going to take the Admiral out in her craft. We are going to prepare the flight deck for the launch. =^=

“Alright guys, we can’t guarantee that the ships systems are going to hold, so let’s get that bird into a launch tube. Come on, move it!”

MCapt Hawkins - A Co Commander

The distinct voice of the Chimera’s CAG snapped over the comm, he sounded slightly out of breath and more than a bit annoyed. =A= This is the CAG… Hawkins, get Carnegie a hole to get out then get that mess cleaned up. As soon as you are able, I need Status reports on our Birds and critical Flight Ops personnel. Captain Carnegie, switch your Auxiliary Comm Channel to 2-8-Bravo-1 and leave it open. This will give continuous two-way between CIC and the Admiral. You copy Iron Lady? =A=

Major Dawkins, CAG

There had been some work done already on assessing the ship’s fighter wing and shuttles in the launch bay. Most craft were mission capable and if the main launch port were open and had the force field down the Chimera could launch an effective combat mission as soon as the pilots were able to get to their ships.

The smile that came over Carnegie’s features was unmistakable. Half happiness, half relief, and all of it excitement. Tapping her commbadge she replied.

=/\= Aye, Sir. =/\= Malcolm would be able to hear the smile in her voice. =/\= Opening the channel as we speak and warming up the engine. Waiting further instructions. Iron Lady out. =/\=

The low hum of the Ranger’s circuits came to life as Eleanor tapped a few more buttons on her console to open the requested auxiliary channel. =/\= Carnegie to Dawkins. This is Sentinel 1. Testing Auxiliary Channel 2-8-Bravo-1. Do you copy? =/\=

Head bent over her console Sheriye activated the sensor suite and studied all the indicators to make sure it was working correctly, keying in a couple of diagnostics to make sure of it’s responses. She also programmed the system to record for playback later. They did not dare hook up to the Chimera’s computer systems so that the CIC could see what they did but they would be able to view it after. She immediately noted that she had control not just of the sensors but of communications, weapons targeting systems, and navigation.

For her part M’Ressa noted her board had propulsion, life support, with the other subsystems.
“Would you like to leave the configuration of the systems as is, Captain or would you like to make modifications?” She asked as she quickly checked the status of the engines, life support, and other important systems.

Eleanor looked over her shoulder to the Admiral, as her fingers moved over her own console. “If you’re comfortable with those controls, I am fine with leaving it as it is, Ma’am. And I would say the same to you, Lieutenant.” She said, momentarily turning to the Chimera’s CSO. “But, if there’s anything you would rather me take control over, I can move them to my console.” A proud smile crossed her lips. “I am used to flying my bird alone, so I can keep an eye on any systems you don’t feel comfortable operating. Otherwise, I am fine with the current setup. Is there anything that you’d want me to carry over here?”

The Ranger’s board all read green. She was mission ready, but could not launch due to the force field and closed hatch over the launch bay.

GM

There was a slight delay in his response, but it did come. =A= Sentinel 1, CAG here… give us a couple to pop the hatch for y’all. Might be a bit cheaper than blowing holes in the ship. =A= Ellie would hear the smirk without even seeing it. He was stressed, that was clear, but it was also clear he wanted to pass on that he was OK. =A= So hang tough, Sentinel 1. We’ll have you an departure route shortly. Dawkins out. =A=

Dawkins, CAG

Eleanor smiled and shook her head ever-so-slightly as Malcolm’s words flowed through the comm.

=/\= Copy that. No holes on the ship. =/\= She wanted to make the joke about Smoke and the dent on the bulkhead, but before the words made it to her lips, the worry about whether her people were okay made it to her mind. Last she had seen them, they were leaving the flight deck headed to their quarters. Hopefully they were okay. Finally, Carnegie’s voice made it back into the comm. =/\= We’ll be waiting for clearance instructions. Sentinel 1 out. =/\=

Carnegie fell silent for a moment before turning back to the other two occupants of the cockpit and saying with an embarrassed smile of someone who just realized their house was a mess when the guests walked in the door. “Also, I should warn you… There should be a pair of spectacles somewhere under one of these consoles. Don’t be alarmed if you stumble onto them.”

OOC: Sorry back now. We had a crazy amount of company the entire holiday, they just left yesterday so catching up on things now:)
OOC: Welcome back :) … by any chance had you in Ranger there tried communicating with the bridge? I was off for a bit myself and don’t see it but may have missed it. .. Gene

OOC: Hmm no hadn’t thought of trying that:)

IC:
“I’ll try not to step on them.”M’Ressa said dryly before looking over to Sheriye.”Sheriye, now that we can scan without the ship’s computers what are you scans saying?” She knew they might not say much as they were still in the ship but she was curious to know what they would say.

Sheriye tapped a few buttons and changed her scans to outside the ship to see what it would tell her about her about the Chimera itself.

Rear Admiral M’Ressa
Sheriye CSO

Tapping the comms button M’Ressa decided to see if she could try and reach the bridge. =^= M’Ressa to Chimera. Chimera do you copy?=^= She commed.

Rear Admiral M’Ressa

OOC: The bridge could respond.

There was a sudden whine across every deck of the ship… it sounded like bulkheads literally crushing underneath their own weigh, but all of the pressure was coming from the outside. The ships gravity and other life support went to zero as the computer attempted to steal power from every other system to repower the shields and the internal force-fields.

The lights and other auxiliary systems dimmed to almost zero as the computer activated the red alert klaxons.

The whining ceased after a few moments as the lights and life-support returned.

GM

Sheriye was alert at her station as she was running scans on the Chimera herself, she almost jumped out of her seat as her panels pinged as the Chimera underwent …whatever it did. Her paws flew across the Ranger’s boards as she tried to get answers from the scan panels to what had happened to their mother ship.

Sheriye CSO

Leaving the Admiral and the CSO to their own devices, Eleanor waited patiently for the green light to depart. It didn’t surprise her that the Admiral tried to contact the Bridge. If worse came to worst they would at least have their auxiliary open channel with Malcolm and Flight Ops, but it was always best to test one’s systems.

It was the sudden noise that pulled Carnegie from her deep thinking. For a moment she feared that the bulkheads would collapse under their own weight, leaving them stranded inside the deck. Although, to be fair, there was no safer place to be than the Ranger’s cabin if that was to happen. Outside, there was a split second where she could swear artificial gravity was gone. Without the magnetic ties, Eleanor felt the Ranger wobble ever so slightly, but the ship didn’t seem to move further.

On the deck, the lights dimmed and came back to life, and when they did the orange/yellow lights of a ship wide alert flooded her vision. Without her glasses she couldn’t determine whether it was a yellow or a red alert, but the characteristic klaxon told her it was the latter.

When everything seemed to return to normal, Carnegie turned to the Admiral. Seeing the Catian busy with her own checks, Eleanor pulled the Ranger’s internal scans to check if all systems were still okay.

As the Marine’s eyes focused on the console in front of her, she tapped her commbage. Extreme annoyance guiding her movements. =/\= Carnegie to Flight Ops. What is going on? And why are we still on the ground. It shouldn’t take this long to get the manual override on the door to work. =/\= Her tone was commanding and almost bordering anger. =/\= Is the manual override functional? If we are going to scan the ship, we need to move, and we need to move NOW. =/\=

Eleanor knew that it would be likely that Malcolm was the one getting her commcall. If it wasn’t, someone else needed to do their job. Deep down, she really wished it was him, as not only did she know that he would be trying his hardest to get them on their way, as, not sure of what was happening, she wanted to hear his voice and know that he was okay.
