Raal stood in the turbolift, the claw of his right pinky picking at his teeth. As the lift came to a stop he drew his hand away and quickly ran his tongue across his teeth where he’d been poking around. His appointment was with the Captain but there was someone else he was excited to see as well. He was pretty sure she didn’t know he was aboard either. The doors opened with a swish of air. As he stepped out of the turbolift he turned toward the Captain’s ready room and walked right behind the science station. Continuing to walk, he stared at Sheriye until she turned towards him, a natural reaction to having someone walk past you. When their eyes met he winked, and smiled puckishly before turning to look where he was going. He nodded to another officer as he passed and came to a stop outside the Captain’s office. He tapped the chime and waited to be welcomed in.

The CSO in her turn had looked curiously at the male Caitian without any signs of recognition. She obviously had no idea who he was but she did deign to give him a nod in polite greeting as one would to a fellow officer.

Sheriye CSO

Raal could hear just the final syllables of a sing-song-y “come in!” as the door to the Captain’s office slid open. A fairly young appearing humanoid looked up at the visitor and a smile danced across her face as she placed the being as her new scientific advisor. She got to her feet and made her way around her desk, holding out her hand in a typical human fashion, although an astute observer would notice that she was likely not fully human.

“It’s a pleasure to have you on board,” she greeted Raal, her eyes sparkling.

Jacobs, CO

Raal returned the smile and shook her hand in return. “It’s good to be aboarrd. It’s been a while since I was off Cait. It’s a welcome change of pace.” He suppressed a chuckle, still thinking about the look on Sheriye’s face when he winked at her. He gestured to the chair in front of her desk. “May I?” He sat down before she could respond. “I was surrprrised to get a rrequest and was about to turrn it down, but my curriosity got the best of me. I did a little poking arround and what do you know, my grrandaughterr and ex-wife are on the Chimerra.” He smiled widely. “Did M’Ressa have something to do with this?”

Katelyn clasped the Caitian’s paw briefly, but firmly before letting it drop and making her way back around her desk. She nodded an affirmation to his request to take a seat and slid back into her own, leaning back in it comfortably as she studied her new scientific advisor. A playfully innocent smile crept across her features as she listened to the familial connection on the ship. “I’m always looking for the best individual for the job,” she responded, her tone light and slightly mysterious. “I should probably leave this question to my counselor, but is that going to be an issue?” One of her eyebrows arched up as she awaited a response.

Jacobs, CO

Raal chuckled. “I guess that depends on what you mean by issues.” Before Jacobs could respond he raised his hand and waved it as though brushing the words out of the air. “I know, not funny. In all serriousness, M’rressa and I had a…tumultuous rrelationship, but we’rre on good terms now. Ourr split was mostly thanks to my, shall we say, prrofessional prride. Once I quit Starrfleet, she quit me. I can’t rreally blame herr, I know what I am, and what I am is a prrideful son of a bitch. Worrse now, I’m an old, prrideful son of a bitch.” He smiled at his self-deprecation. “I don’t have any ill will towarrds herr, but if she was still angrry at me I’d harrdly blame herr.” He crossed his legs and scratched absently at the seam of his pants over his knee. “As forr Sherriye, we haven’t met yet. I’m expecting some frriction therre, but I want to mend brridges, not burrn them.”

Katelyn leaned back in her chair as she listened to M’Resh speak. She’d always found something soothing about the Caitian vocal pattern. Her dark eyes held steady as he filled her in and she nodded along with him, not quite agreeing with the self-deprecation, but showing her appreciation of his candor. “So why did you leave Starfleet, then?” she asked with interest.

Jacobs, CO

“Well, that’s the thing isn’t it?” He said, still picking at the seam in his trousers. “It’s not a simple question, and it definitely has no simple answerr.” He smiled and looked back up at Jacobs. “I’m a stubborrn man, and Starrfleet and I had differrent ideas about how to best put my skills to use. I got myself prromoted out of science division and into command.” He looked away from Jacobs’s face, a touch of embarrassment flicking across his eyes. “I found a, shall we say unorrthodox, way to move back to sciences.” He chuckled, the memory of the event pushing all shame out of his mind. “A quick jab to my Captain’s jaw, and I was on a new ship worrking Stellarr Carrtogrraphy again.” He uncrossed his legs and leaned forward a bit. “It would have been fine, M’Rressa wasn’t happy, but I was all rright. Then we took on a Tellarrite scientist and his entourrage. We…did not get along. Therre werre a few incidents and I had rresigned beforre mission’s end.” He gestured around the office. “And now I’m back on a starrfleet ship.”
