Ryley let her have her rant and watched patiently, the corner of his mouth turned up. He was amused it seemed. “Well I would assume, if one of those things happened, you would say to Gre’thor with the psychical exam requirements, and go and be an engineer and be done with it.” He raised his eyebrows. “However, no ones treating people in my stead kid. I’m observing the triage.”

“Indeed I would!” Mirai roared in reply, although the affirmation also confirmed the reality that there was not any current threat to the antimatter containment fields, nor had she noted any kind of fluctuation in the warp core’s magnetic fields. Which meant that in this present moment, Mirai Nakuto was about as useful as a dead targ.

He finished his coffee, pulled a face as if it disappointed him as much as it did her and turned to face her. “Any of the medical staff but they will tell you the same as I did. Actually they are likely to ignore you for now because you choose to sit with me. Alexx Ryley by the way.” He said by way of introduction, not elaborating. “Anyway…why would a physical need to be priority…I thought you were in good health?”

“I am in excellent health,” she corrected him, although the confidence was quickly diminishing from her tone. Doubtful that the great Captain Kara Nakuto would be forced to wait for so long to complete a physical. Only the lesser esteemed of the Nakuto sisters was destined to carry this burden of insignificance. The shame was sufficient to force her back into her chair, her eyes momentarily falling to the floor, lest Ryley sense such weakness in her.

Ryley watched her, his weakness senses tingling, he didn’t poke that particular wound however.

But silence was never one of her virtues and presently she began to speak again. “For what reason would you be observing the triage? Are the medical staff in this room not sufficiently trained in their duties? Or do you wait to roar those that pass into the halls of Sto’vo’kor?”

  • MIrai Nakuto (Eng)

“Nah not the roaring sort of I’m honest. And Because I’m the one that told them to do it,” he said calmly.

“You did?” the impatient engineer sought to clarify. “You are…?”

“Yup.” He said nonchalantly.

With the impact of a stem-bolt to the head, Mirai finally grasped the true nature of the situation. Why, this man she had been chatting with and drinking coffee with could have performed her physical what felt like hours ago!

Seizing an abandoned tricorder, the half-Klingon thrust it into Ryley’s hands.
“Then if it is indeed true that you are also a medic then…please…do…medical things. I am sure that your department can continue without your direct observation for the length of time it will take you to confirm my health!”

  • Mirai Nakuto (Eng)

Ryley took the tricorder and frowned at it. As she spoke he took it between his thumb and forefinger and put it on the nearest trolley as if it were offensive.

“Medical things?” He said sounding amused. “Why, you said you were perfectly healthy. And probably but as the Chief Medical Officer I am kinda supposed to watch them.”
