The room was very small. One might even wonder how it would be possible to work comfortably inside it, but regardless of the size and comfort, someone seemed to be using it.

There was only space for a desk and a chair. There was no chair for visits, making it clear that this was a working spot rather than a place to hold a meeting. The walls were plain with no panels, consoles, viewscreens, or even windows. A terminal sat on the desk. Starfleet Intelligence’s seal adorned the screen. Beside it there was an old battered copy of Jules Verne’s A Journey to the Center of the Earth, a blue mug with UCLA in large yellow print, and a picture of a happy couple in what seemed to be a park — both Orin and Pawl would be able to recognize them as the CO and the CIO of the Dresden.

However, as soon as the duo walked into the center of the room a figure appeared between them and the door. It was a Mark IV EMH, the same variety available in the Dresden’s sickbays. Since the EMH program was not normally available outside of sickbay, it would be clear that this one had been installed later, and also, most likely, the trigger of Orin’s machine empathy.

With a smile, the EMH turned towards the two officers and uttered in its usual polite tone. “Please state the nature of your medical emergency.”

Joana

Orin arched and eyebrow.

“You’re a little out of place for medical emergencies.” he said gesturing around the room.

  • Orin

Orin read Pawl’s mind on that comment as they waited calmly on the Emhs replies. Pawl was going to add something but decided not too at this point. “Where are we?” As Pawl said acting dumb at present.

The EMH seemed unfazed by any of the words spoken. His expression unchanging and his gaze almost as if it was looking through the officers rather than at them. It insisted on his previous question, speaking in exactly the same tone as before. “Please state the nature of your medical emergency.” There was no doubt that this was not a regular EMH… it was almost as if it was more like a shell of one…

The two Engineering officers would note that since the holographic doctor stood precisely in front of the door, there was virtually no way out of the room.

Joana

“Deactivate the EMH.” Orin called out hoping for the system to respond.

  • Orin

“I don’t know why but I think we’re in some danger?” Pawl commented casually but he noticed that the way was blocked by the Emh and that was not a good thing.

Losc’s command worked… in part. With the same expression as before, the EMH disappeared as the holoemitters terminated its routine.

However, almost instantly, the computer’s voice came through the speakers in the room. “Unauthorized command. Voice print not recognized.” The computer paused for a split second as if it was processing what to do next. “Intruder alert. Unauthorized entry in Fleet Command Center. Intruder alert…” As the words repeated through the speakers, the shipwide red alert klaxons sounded and in both the office and the main room all the screens instantly turned red. Suddenly, with loud thumps, a protective panel fell in front of each of the wall terminals, making them virtually inaccessible. Both the main room door and the office door closed and locked solidly in place. The Dresden was now in red alert. Or so it seemed.

In the mess hall, Captain Molly Wright’s commbadge beeped.

Joana

Orin’s eyes went wide with surprise.

“This isn’t good.” he said to Pawl.

Orin looked around for maintenance access panels. Maybe pulling a few isometric chips and rerouting power would get the door open and the red alert canceled.

  • Orin

“Great!” Pawl said calmly. ” Computer Acknowledge?” As nothing came back to his inquiry. “This is not a normal function for the ships computer or EMH for that matter.” Pawl commented flatly at there situation. “This is more cloak and dagger.” Pawl observed.

Orin sat on a chair.

“Well as I’m neither security nor intel, I’m not sure what to do.”

  • Orin

“Well, we sit here and wait for trouble or we try and get out of here? We could check the duct work or the the maintenance crawl space? for possible escape or we can try and bypass the door motors?” Pawl offered a few ideas. As he looked for the holo-matrix and generator for the unknown holo-doctor. He knew the computer here were lockout and inoperable so they were useless at the present time as he removed a wall panel to attempt to access the holo matrix system in attempts to use it as a means of communication with the ship to get help as there was a dampening field in place that killed there combadges from working properly.

As Orin relaxed on the chair, he let the sensations of the ship flow into him. He was reaching out with his mind to connect to the feelings of the the flesh, bone, and circuitry of the Dresden in relation to their current predicament.
