About 24 hours after the Waterloo departed and the Dresden continued on their normal course, comms received a distress signal. The source of the signal was 30 minutes away on maximum warp. The Dresden was the nearest ship to the source. From their present location, the long range sensors were not able to ascertain what was happening at that location due to the interference of an electromagnetic storm forming nearby the Dresden. Although the storm was not obstructing their passage, it did cause inaccurate sensor information. However, the distress signal was on subspace and it was a very clearly authentic.

Brown sat silently in the second officer’s chair. While enlisted, he had qualified to command the conn during normal watch hours. This time, he took the watch, giving the senior staff a needed break after the last mission. As the shift wore on, he sat reading reports on crew mission reports and evaluations. It was a dull read, full of evaluations and recommendations that don’t really tell him anything. It was a long report, covering over 70 crew members, each report signed and submitted, but essentially meaningless. It was dull, tedious but necessary work.

The bridge was quiet and for a few hours few words were spoken, outside of an update on the new electromagnetic storm. That changed about 6 hours into his shift.

“Uh, Master Chief?” A young Ensign spoke up from the tactical console. Brown looked up quickly at the sound of her voice. Thankful that he now had something in which to distract himself.

“Yes Ensign?” He asked, turning to look at her. She was a young, fresh out of the academy Ensign on her first tour.

“I think, I mean, I am picking up what looks like a distress call.” She reported, sounding a little nervous.

“Can you confirm?” He stood up to look at her. She doubled checked her sensors.

“I can confirm the distress call, but not much else, the nearby electromagnetic storm is interfering with the sensors.” She explained, still nervous.

“Very well,” He turned to the helm. “Ensign, set course, Maximum Warp.” He sat back down in his chair.

“Yes Master Chief,” the NE at helm replied. “ETA 30 min.”

“Very good, Tactical, keep an eye on the sensors. As soon as we clear this storm I want to know what is going on.”

“Right Master Chief.” She replied.

Brown set aside his reading and tapped the comm panel.

The lights in Wright’s quarters were at 10% as the Dresden’s Commanding Officer reached across his partner for his commbadge next to her’s on the nightstand. “Oh for the love of God!” He groaned as he picked up the badge and kissed Molly on the cheek. “Sorry Mol’s… somebody better be dying.”

With a click of the commbadge, the sleepy tone still in his voice, the ship’s Captain responded. =A= This is Harris… go ahead COB.=A=

Harris, CO

=^=Sorry to bother you sir, but we are picking up a distress call. We don’t have much information on the nature, as a nearby electromagnetic storm is causing some issues with the ships sensors. I’ve set a course to the source of the call, ETA 30 min.=^= As he reported, he pulled up the sensor reports for his own review.

-COB

=A= Understood COB…=A= Harris responded, sounding slightly more awake. He glanced at the chrono on Molly’s nightstand. It showed a quarter to six in the morning. Rubbing his eyes slightly, the Marine continued. =A=… bring the ship to Yellow Alert and wake the staff. Meeting in the Briefing Room in 20. Harris out.=A=

Harris, CO

Based on what they could gather from the storm, the ship should be able to get more sensor information the further they move away from the storm and nearer to the distress signal.

=^=Understood Colonel.=^= COB terminated the call.

“Yellow Alert.” COB ordered, he looked down at his console. He inputed the command for the senior staff. =^=COB to senior staff. We have picked up a distress call and are enroute to assist. Meeting in the Briefing Room in 20 min.=^= COB sent the message to all senior staff members. He then turned his attention to the sensor display. Hoping to have some information to provide to the senior staff.

Amelia’s morning routine started at 0500 with her rowing practice, so she had been wide awake when the message came in and the yellow alert sounded – this morning more so than usual as she had managed to flip her skiff and was trying her best to climb back into the boat and row back to dock. Finally rushing out of the holodeck and to her quarters, she left a wet footprint trail behind her.

Miraculously, even if her hair still felt damp, she was crossing the threshold to the Bridge at exactly 0600 sporting a freshly pressed uniform. She had five minutes to spare until the staff meeting was scheduled to start. Walking towards the COB she started. “Morning Master Chief. Any updates on the distress signal?”

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

COB turned to face the XO. “Good Morning Commander, No updates yet, we should know something as soon as we clear this storm.” He glanced towards the view screen which showed the storm as they moved past it at high warp.

“I’ve got all sensors ready to go once we clear.” He said returning his attention to the XO. “I should have something for the senior staff any moment.”

At the moment, the turbolift on the port side of the Bridge hissed opened and the Dresden’s Commanding Officer stepped off… uniform perfect with a Marine Green tunic. As Harris walked past the JO closest to the lift, the young woman sat bolt upright “Captain on Deck” Which was met with a warm, genuine smile. Rounding the Bridge to the center, the Marine nodded to Brown.

“Morning COB. Any news just yet?” He asked before taking a sip of coffee from the Fighter Command mug in his right hand, the left holding a PaDD down at his side.

“Good Morning Colonel. No news yet sir.” COB reported, he turned and headed towards the operations station, relieving the young ensign there.

(OOC: Post above and we’ll play out a few minutes before Kenson’s info comes in. Thanks!)

Harris, CO

Hannibal arrived on the bridge a minute later and assumed his station at tactical.

“Morning Colonel, Commander.” He greeted the CO and XO as he took over tactical.

He had to wait about 10 minutes before the storm’s interference was reduced enough to get some preliminary data.

There were five ships at the location where the distress signal originated. It was not very clear but there was a 72% probability that energy weapons were being discharged at that location. The interference from the storm prevented enough data through to identify the ships.
