About 24 hours after the Waterloo departed and the Dresden continued on their normal course, comms received a distress signal. The source of the signal was 30 minutes away on maximum warp. The Dresden was the nearest ship to the source. From their present location, the long range sensors were not able to ascertain what was happening at that location due to the interference of an electromagnetic storm forming nearby the Dresden. Although the storm was not obstructing their passage, it did cause inaccurate sensor information. However, the distress signal was on subspace and it was a very clearly authentic.

Brown sat silently in the second officer’s chair. While enlisted, he had qualified to command the conn during normal watch hours. This time, he took the watch, giving the senior staff a needed break after the last mission. As the shift wore on, he sat reading reports on crew mission reports and evaluations. It was a dull read, full of evaluations and recommendations that don’t really tell him anything. It was a long report, covering over 70 crew members, each report signed and submitted, but essentially meaningless. It was dull, tedious but necessary work.

The bridge was quiet and for a few hours few words were spoken, outside of an update on the new electromagnetic storm. That changed about 6 hours into his shift.

“Uh, Master Chief?” A young Ensign spoke up from the tactical console. Brown looked up quickly at the sound of her voice. Thankful that he now had something in which to distract himself.

“Yes Ensign?” He asked, turning to look at her. She was a young, fresh out of the academy Ensign on her first tour.

“I think, I mean, I am picking up what looks like a distress call.” She reported, sounding a little nervous.

“Can you confirm?” He stood up to look at her. She doubled checked her sensors.

“I can confirm the distress call, but not much else, the nearby electromagnetic storm is interfering with the sensors.” She explained, still nervous.

“Very well,” He turned to the helm. “Ensign, set course, Maximum Warp.” He sat back down in his chair.

“Yes Master Chief,” the NE at helm replied. “ETA 30 min.”

“Very good, Tactical, keep an eye on the sensors. As soon as we clear this storm I want to know what is going on.”

“Right Master Chief.” She replied.

Brown set aside his reading and tapped the comm panel.

=^=Bridge to Colonel Harris=^=

-COB

The lights in Wright’s quarters were at 10% as the Dresden’s Commanding Officer reached across his partner for his commbadge next to her’s on the nightstand. “Oh for the love of God!” He groaned as he picked up the badge and kissed Molly on the cheek. “Sorry Mol’s… somebody better be dying.”

With a click of the commbadge, the sleepy tone still in his voice, the ship’s Captain responded. =A= This is Harris… go ahead COB.=A=

Harris, CO

=^=Sorry to bother you sir, but we are picking up a distress call. We don’t have much information on the nature, as a nearby electromagnetic storm is causing some issues with the ships sensors. I’ve set a course to the source of the call, ETA 30 min.=^= As he reported, he pulled up the sensor reports for his own review.

-COB

=A= Understood COB…=A= Harris responded, sounding slightly more awake. He glanced at the chrono on Molly’s nightstand. It showed a quarter to six in the morning. Rubbing his eyes slightly, the Marine continued. =A=… bring the ship to Yellow Alert and wake the staff. Meeting in the Briefing Room in 20. Harris out.=A=

Harris, CO

Based on what they could gather from the storm, the ship should be able to get more sensor information the further they move away from the storm and nearer to the distress signal.

GM

=^=Understood Colonel.=^= COB terminated the call.

“Yellow Alert.” COB ordered, he looked down at his console. He inputed the command for the senior staff. =^=COB to senior staff. We have picked up a distress call and are enroute to assist. Meeting in the Briefing Room in 20 min.=^= COB sent the message to all senior staff members. He then turned his attention to the sensor display. Hoping to have some information to provide to the senior staff.

-COB

Amelia’s morning routine started at 0500 with her rowing practice, so she had been wide awake when the message came in and the yellow alert sounded – this morning more so than usual as she had managed to flip her skiff and was trying her best to climb back into the boat and row back to dock. Finally rushing out of the holodeck and to her quarters, she left a wet footprint trail behind her.

Miraculously, even if her hair still felt damp, she was crossing the threshold to the Bridge at exactly 0600 sporting a freshly pressed uniform. She had five minutes to spare until the staff meeting was scheduled to start. Walking towards the COB she started. “Morning Master Chief. Any updates on the distress signal?”

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

COB turned to face the XO. “Good Morning Commander, No updates yet, we should know something as soon as we clear this storm.” He glanced towards the view screen which showed the storm as they moved past it at high warp.

“I’ve got all sensors ready to go once we clear.” He said returning his attention to the XO. “I should have something for the senior staff any moment.”

-COB

At the moment, the turbolift on the port side of the Bridge hissed opened and the Dresden’s Commanding Officer stepped off… uniform perfect with a Marine Green tunic. As Harris walked past the JO closest to the lift, the young woman sat bolt upright “Captain on Deck” Which was met with a warm, genuine smile. Rounding the Bridge to the center, the Marine nodded to Brown.

“Morning COB. Any news just yet?” He asked before taking a sip of coffee from the Fighter Command mug in his right hand, the left holding a PaDD down at his side.

“Good Morning Colonel. No news yet sir.” COB reported, he turned and headed towards the operations station, relieving the young ensign there.

(OOC: Post above and we’ll play out a few minutes before Kenson’s info comes in. Thanks!)

Harris, CO

Hannibal arrived on the bridge a minute later and assumed his station at tactical.

“Morning Colonel, Commander.” He greeted the CO and XO as he took over tactical.

He had to wait about 10 minutes before the storm’s interference was reduced enough to get some preliminary data.

There were five ships at the location where the distress signal originated. It was not very clear but there was a 72% probability that energy weapons were being discharged at that location. The interference from the storm prevented enough data through to identify the ships.

GM

-HA/COB

A few more minutes passed before the sensors were able to identify the ships. There was a single ship registered to a wealthy Ardanan (a Federation member) and the other ships were Efrosians (also Federation members). The region of space that they were in was in Federation space but not within any member’s jurisdiction. The Ardanan ship was a private vessel and the Efrosian ships registered as belonging to an Efrosian colony 0.7 light years away.

GM

Referring to the LCARS, the Ardanan in question was a particular successful Stratos dweller who had developed starship parts that is used in Starfleet and Federation ships. He is often found in the dinner parties of ambassadors and the upper echelons of the Federation. The Efrosian colony was a relatively new one. It was established some 15 years before and it was reported that they were doing rather well. They had attracted many Efrosian historians and artists.

GM

“Sir,” Hannibal reported from Tactical. ” We are close enough now to get better readings. It looks like we have two federation members, the Andana and the Efrosian’s engaged in some sort of heated dispute. There is one Ardanan ship that is registered to a businessman who deals in starship parts.” He looked up from the console. “Could be some sort of trade dispute.”

-COS

Harris nodded. “Alright, I never felt right with an unfair fight.” Turning to helm, the Marine added. “I figure we’re about 6 minutes out?” Then with a motion to the screen, Harris said firmly. “Shields Up… Red Alert. Take us in between the Andana vessel and the Efrosian party. Senior Staff to the Briefing Room.” With that, Harris walked off the Bridge and into the Briefing Room.

Harris, CO

While the briefing was going on, the sensors continued to monitor the situation. The Andana vessel seemed to be damaged and the Erosion party seemed to have stopped the attack but the distress signal did not stop.

GM

Before Amelia could open her mouth to object Harris’s the decision of blindly putting themselves between the two ships, the red alert klaxon sounded. Pulling a PaDD up with her, she promptly got up from her chair, following the Marine into the Briefing Room, all the while pulling up records on the two parties engaged in combat.

Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO

Hannibal turned his station over to an NE and followed the staff into the conference room.

The Dresden was still about 10 minutes from the two ships. The standoff was till on, there was no longer weapons being discharged.

GM

OOC: I have a question… the first posts seem to indicate that there is one Andana ship and multiple Efrosian ships (“the Efrosian party”). But the last post clearly states there are only two ships involved. Until told otherwise I am assuming that there are multiple Efrosian ships, but I just wanted to make sure… – Joana

OOC: My apologies! I meant the “two sides”. My befuddled mind. Thousand apologies!!

Kenson, GM

OOC: Thanks! And no worries, it happens. :) – Joana

After what seemed to be an inordinate amount of time, the ship arrived at the scene. The four Efrosian ships had surrounded the sole Andanan ship. Of the four ships, one had the Efrosian markings of the lead ship.

GM

COB stood on the bridge as the command staff briefed in the conference room.

“Master Chief, They have stopped firing at each other.” An NE reported. COB nodded in Acknowledgement. “There are four Efronsian ships surrounding one Andanan ship.”

“Good, I guess we got their attention. Slow to impulse.” He tapped his combadge. =^=COB to Colonel Harries, we are approaching the battle. They are no longer discharging weapons, but the the Efronsians have surrounded the Andanans.=^= COB reporeted.

-COB/HA

The lead Efrosian ship hailed the Dresden, as did the Andanan ship.

GM

“COB, Both sides are hailing us, what should we do?” the NE at tactical asked.

Brown tapped his combadge =^=COB to Colonel Harris, both sides are hailing us, want me to patch them to the briefing room?=^=

-COB

Sensors indicate that the repairs to the warp drive of the Andanan ship was just minutes away from being repaired.

GM

=A= One moment COB, we’re coming out.=A= Came the quick response from the Dresden’s CO.

Moments later, the Marine lead the Senior Staff from the Briefing Room and headed for the Centre Chair. Reaching it and lowering himself into the seat, Harris nodded to the Duty Comm Officer. “Open a channel… splitscreen… I only want to say this once.”

The moment both parties appeared on screen, Harris began speaking before either party could open their mouth.

=A= This is Colonel Calvin Harris, Commanding Officer of the Federation Starship USS Dresden. Speaking as a representative of the United Federation of Planets, I would really like to know exactly why we detected weapons fire in this area in addition to a distress call. However, before either of you speak, might I remind you…=A= Harris looked to the Efrosians side of the screen and continued =A=… by discharging ship-to-ship offensive systems in blatant aggressive actions against a fellow UFP member, the Eforsians are in direct violation of the most recent Collective Defense Mandate of the Federation Treaties and Alliances Act, revised, 2391. I would first like to know why you think violation of the FTAA and risking your peoples membership in the Federation was a good idea? So please, enlighten me. =A= Harris’ tone was cort, like a parent scolding a child.

Harris, CO

Before the Efrosian had a chance to answer, the Ardanan spoke. He had on a slight smile and a very suave manner. =/\=Colonel Harris, I am Lorenzo of Stratos. I seek your protection against these Efrosians who would dare to violate the FTAA.=/\=

The Efrosian on the screen seemed to be holding back his anger but was not doing a good job of it. =/\=Colonel,=/\= he said through gritted teeth, =/\=I am Captain Ryu of the ship Sendai, from the Kita-umi colony. We are in pursuit of this ship because it contains items stolen from us. He is a thief!=/\=

GM

bump

This could be interesting. Orin though as he let his mind wander over what he could see of the ship’s interiors on the view screen. He let his senses reach out to see if he could gauge the general feelings of their ships.

LtCdr Losc, CE

The Efrosians were the easiest to read as their emotions were very apparent. They were indignant and angry. The Ardanan could only be described as being smug. There was a slight hint of deception.
