Following her conversation with the Captain, Elaine had committed the names of the mentioned staff members into her memory as something to check up on later. For the past couple of weeks she’d been busy getting to know her staff and settling herself and Enj on the ship. Now things had begun to quieten down for her somewhat, she decided it was high time she looked at the medical files of the officer the Captain had recommended she look into… a certain Lt (j.g) Klienhoffer. Pulling up Elizabeth Klienhoffer’s record on her PADD Elaine settled to inform herself in the medical concerns that Capt. Harris had illuded to.

Had there had been anyone watching the CMO as she read through Klienhoffers file, they would perhaps, have found amusement in her face as it changed with each ailement that Elaine read. When she’d finished, she sat back in her chair staring thoughtfully into space, ignoring even Enj, as she processed all that she had read. Poor Lt. (j.g.) Kleinhoffer, the women seemed almost cursed - at least medically speaking - she suffered so many ailements. Elaine felt sympathy for her, it almost certainly couldn’t’ve been easy for her. She was also glad she’d waited until things had settled, because she knew she was going to have to do extra research on Kleinhoffers medical conditions. While she was a proficiant doctor, she was only young, and as she had informed the Captain, she was best a triage, a little extra research wasn’t going to hurt. Satisfied with her choice she leaned down and clicked her fingers until Enj woke up from where he was sleeping on his little doggy bed in the corner of her office. “Sorry buddy,” she muttered apologetically, as he obediently and sleepily trotted over to her to be petted, “You’re being relieved of duty for the afternoon,” Enj wiggled his butt in response.

She rarely dismissed him, but in this instance she wanted to err on the side of caution. Klienhoffer’s file said she had asthma, and although Elaine doubted he would, but if Klienhoffer wasn’t used to dogs she didn’t want to risk Enj triggering an asthma attack while she was meeting with the other woman.

=^= Lt. (j.g.) Janvier to NE Lucia; Are you busy? =^=
=^= Just playing with some cells Lt. is this a social call or do you want something? =^= Lucia’s cheeky voice came down the line.
=^= Yes please, can you report to my office and collect Enj for me. He’s getting a little ansty, =^=
=^= Oh no! Tell my baby I’m on my way NE out =^=

Elaine rolled her eyes at Lucia’s overdramaticness “She’s on her way bud,” she said to Enj mere seconds before the NE burst through the doors and scooped Enj up into her arms with a cry of “I shall save you from the bordom monster!” and a pointed look at Elaine. “Thank you,” Elaine said, ignoring the dramatics, “You know I’d do anything to skive off work with this cutie,” Luica winked and left, taking the small dog with her.

Shaking her head, Elaine tapped her combadge for a second time. =^= Lt. (j.g.) Janvier to Lt. (j.g.) Kleinhoffer; Please report to my office at your earliest convenience. =^=
As she waited for a reply Elaine opened up her PADD again, it was time to do a little research.

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier & Enj the dog
CMO

Ellie rolled her eyes at the CMO asking her to come to Sickbay. She knew where this was going, she sighed and headed to sickbay. Her chair gliding through the halls silently, arriving at the doors of Sickbay, she slid in and looked around “Where is Lt Janvier?” She asked clearly not wanting to be here, hoping that it was something wrong in Sickbay.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

A small Bajoran medical NE blinked owlishly at her, “She’s in her office,” he said pointing Ellie over to a door that ajoined Sickbay a little bit further into the room, “Just go straight in, she won’t mind.”

The CMO’s office, although reasonably tidy, was not as orderly as Sickbay. The young CMO herself, was sitting at her desk, head perched in one hand reading off of a PADD, scattered around her were various other PADDs and the odd medical textbook here and there. On the other side of her desk was a chair, obviously for such discussions as the one Ellie was anticipating, another two chairs sat neatly out of the road in the corner. The only odd touch that set Lt. Janvier’s office apart from other Sickbay offices was the small pillow dusted with black and white hairs that lay next to the CMO’s desk and the chewed teddybear that lay on it.

Ellie rolled in “You wanted to see me Lt?” She asked looking non-plused at being called to the CMOs office. “Do you have repairs that need to be done?” She asked.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

“Lt Janvier,” The young doctor properly introduced herself, putting down the PADD she had been reading from “I’m the new CMO thank you for coming so promptly. I’m afraid I haven’t called you here for anything so exciting. But I’ve just started going through the crew medical files, and your’s stuck out. I was hoping you’d spare some time to run through a few things with me so I could familiarise myself more effciently.” She smiled apologetically, “I’m sure you’ve probably done this several times already for other doctors, but I really would appreciate it. I just want to ask a couple of questions and run a few scans.”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

Ellie sighed inwardly “What do you want to know?” She asked leaning back in her chair, her disapproval clear on her face. She prepared for all of the usual questions that came from every new CMO that had come aboard the ship since the accident.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Elaine shifted uncomfortably, feeling more and more like she was putting Ellie out, at the others outward display of resentment to being called out. And while she could understand the other Lieutenant’s (j.g.) feelings, it didn’t make Elaines own job any easier. Just more awkward. She took a deep breath, and tried her best to maintain a neutral and professional expression. “It says on your file that up until the Acadamy you were taking medication used to treat several disorders,” she glanced at the information on her PADD, “OCD, ADHD and a couple of others, but after the Acadamy you stopped taking medication, apparently opting to use more natural methods instead. May I ask why?”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO
“It was easier to use more natural methods. It allowed me to stay out of sickbay and away from the counselor.” Ellie said honestly “I also found that I wasn’t having the anxiety or other issues that I did while I was in the Academy.” She said “And before you ask, yes, I have two shattered vertebrae in my back that has paralyzed me from the waist down. There was some talk of doing surgery that if successful would allow me to walk again, if it failed I died.” She said matter of factly “I resented the fact that it felt that everyone was talking about me, even though I was sitting right there.” She said “So if that is how this is going to go. I have work that I need to get done.” Ellie said not meanly but very matter of factly.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

“I can see you have been paralyzed,” Elaine snapped sharply, and then blushed when she realised what she’d just said. She hadn’t meant to be rude, but she was frusterated at the way she felt the situation was going,”My apologies,” she said quickly, aghast, “But I’m not here to ask about the obvious. If you have work that needs doing than by all means you can go I won’t keep you. But,” she said firmly, “before you leave you will need to arrange an appointment for when we can have this discussion again until I have got all the answers I need.”

She paused to take a breath, settling herself down. She hoped she wasn’t coming across as harsh, but she did want to make her point. “I understand that this whole conversation might be tedious to you but it is a conversation I need to have. And I’d rather address them now, before I’m forced to address them in some unforseeable event in the future.” She knew there was a chance she was being overly precautious, but she also had a lot to prove and she wasn’t going to screw it up because she hadn’t done her research. “Can I continue asking my questions or do you need to arrange another date?” she asked gently.

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

Ellie sighed “I apologize, it is just frustrating. What else would you like to know Lt?” She asked looking at Janvier in the eye.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Janvier smiled sympathetically, “Understandable,” she said, then she returned back to her professionalism, “What I was beginning to get to was, since you prefer more natural cures for your disorders, would you also prefer that for other medical treatments should they arise? For example if you came down with an injury or an illness would you want me to try natural methods before I chose more medicinal ones? There would be conditions of course, but if that’s a method you prefer…” she sat back and waited for the other woman to respond. She didn’t know if it would be something the other junior Lieutenant would be willing to try or not, she hadn’t seen any mention of it in her file, but she could have missed it for some reason or another.

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

“That would be fine and I understand that there would be conditions of course.” Ellie said “The only reason that I stopped taking the medications was because of the negative side effects that they were having.” She said “It is not a perfect solution, but it works for me.” She said politely.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Elaine wrinkled her nose, “Medications that mess with a persons brain are always fickle. Most brains of living species are so incredibly complicated that even with our vast understanding of the universe our knowledge of our brains is still limited. According to the research papers of Dr Jennifer Lucerio our brains maintain a delicate but perdantic chemical and neurological balance. The theory behind those brain altering medications is sound in theory but harder to pull off in practice.” She stopped. She was beginning to ramble and Ellie wasn’t there to listen to a lecture on brain chemistry.

“I also wanted to ask you about your asthma, if you’ve noticed anything that triggers it and when your last severe attack was.” She wanted to see if it matched the one on her file or not. It would give her a better idea as to the frequency of the attacks or the reliablilty of the record she had. “I have a dog I like to bring in with me, is he likely to cause your asthma any problems?”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

Ellie looked at the CMO “It was about two months ago.” She said “It wasn’t a horrible attack but it required a bit more medication than normal.” She said “I don’t even rememeber if I came to Sickbay.” Ellie said honestly “I usually don’t have an issue with animals.” Ellie said “It is usually changes in the weather or atmosphere on the ship that trigger things.”

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Elaine nodded, “That’s good, doesn’t sound anything too concerning,” She made a quick note in Ellie’s medical file. “Would you mind if I gave you a quick physical? I just want to take a couple of readings.” She smiled kindly, “After that we’ll be done I promise.” She wanted to get a proper read on Ellies brain and see what it’s electrolite and chemical levels were.

CMO

Ellie rolled over to the closest bed and pulled herself up onto it. She waited for the CMO to come over and do what she wanted her to do.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Elaine followed behind, pulling her tricorder out as she walked. Once Ellie was settled she ran the tricorder down her body, focusing mainly on her head and lungs.

OOC: Scan results

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

The scans would show that there were no decidedly issues with either her asthma or bi polar disorder. The doctor would notice that the soft tissue in her back was slightly swollen but everything else was stable. There were no other concerns that would come up.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

“Well for the most part your scan results have come back with good results,” Although her words sounded positive Elaine was frowning, “But you’ve got some swollen tissue in your back, it seems unanimous with muscle strain but that wouldn’t make sense…” she trailed off. “Have you fallen recently? Experienced any back pain at all? Tried to do some heavy lifting in Engineering?” she threw the questions at Ellie as her mind ran through possible scenarios that could have aggrivated Ellie’s back.
