The sickening sound of the shuttle cabin depressurizing filled her ears. The structural integrity warning echoed in her mind.

Molly shook her head as she ran, trying to clear her thoughts. She jumped over a tree root, then another, and then another. She knew this part of the rainforest. She had done it before. But somehow, her mind kept coming in and out of focus. Behind her, she could hear the closing steps of the ferocious creatures that lived between the trees. If only she could get to a clearing… She was starting to think that disabling the holodeck safeties might not have been the brightest of ideas.

Suddenly, her right foot caught in a tree root, and Molly dove full speed into the ground. Part rolling, part sliding through the moist earth and vegetation, Wright managed to get back on her feet. But it was too late. Spears and arrows flew past her, and as she ducked out of the way, a stone hit the back of her head, causing her to go down again. The voices, speaking in an unknown language, were now closer than ever before. Her knees hit the ground before she felt a foot on her backside driving her hips to the moist forest floor and a sharp pain pierce through the back of her right thigh.

A scream cut the air, before Wright realized it was her own.

As clawed hands grabbed her ankles and pinned her shoulders to the ground, Molly managed to yell =/\= Computer, end program! =/\=

The lush vegetation of the rainforest promptly disappeared, replaced by the grey and yellow grid of an empty holodeck. And with it, so did the creatures and the spear that had pierced the back of Wright’s leg, leaving behind an open gash.

Panting, Molly knew she didn’t have much time, and through gritted teeth she pulled herself up, blood streaking the floor as she moved. Reaching for her workout t-shirt, she ripped the bottom of it before tying it around her thigh, in a makeshift tourniquet. All she had to do now was walk back to her quarters. Quietly.

Alas, the universe had other plans for her, as the Holodeck doors opened revealing one of the few people Molly had wished not to cross paths with.

“What the actual hell happened to you!?” Sergeant Jersey Reyes nearly screamed as she stumbled back a step in shock before rushing forward to Molly’s aid. Bare knees burned on the floor as she slid beside the Dresden’s injured CIO, her small hands surprisingly strong in the pressure applied to the wound. “You’re going to Sickbay, right?!” She asked more forcefully than Molly had ever heard the young Marine.

A gasp escaped Molly’s lips as the former combat medic applied pressure in her leg. “Ah, it’s nothing. Just a small accident in my morning routine.” Wright said through gritted teeth, trying to sound better than she felt. “Nothing to worry about.” But the moment the words left her lips, Molly knew she had given Jersey the wrong answer. “I’ll see how I feel tonight.” She gave the Marine a forced smile.

“Like hell you are!” A slap to Jersey’s commbadge opened the channel and in that moment, Molly knew hiding what had happened was now out of the question.

=/\= Sgt. Reyes to Transporter Room One… Bobby, Captain Wright is hurt… bad… two to beam directly to Sickbay. =/\=

The pair materialized in the middle of Main Sickbay, in the usually quiet early hours of the morning. While feeling strangely dizzy, Molly’s leg gave up, causing the Intel Officer to reach for Jersey’s shoulder to support herself.

Jersey barked out into the room. “I need help over here… NOW!” Then the trained combat medic began to rattle the Intel Chief’s condition to anyone in the room. “Female, 29, through & through on the right thigh… about four inches above the knee on the inside of the leg…. femur seems undamaged… likely puncture of the superficial femoral artery.” In that moment, Jersey’s voice cracked. “She’s lost a lot of blood…” Then her tone pleaded. “… hurry damn you!”

Capt. Wright, CIO & Sgt. Reyes

Charlie dashed over and held Molly up from the other side. “Ok, we’ve got you,” she said reassuringly as she gestured to a nearby biobed to Sgt Reyes, “over here,” she added as they gently led Molly over to the biobed, leaving a trail of blood across the deck. Charlie could see from Molly’s colour that she had lost a large volume of blood so as they gently eased her onto the biobed, she beckoned a nurse to come over. “Nurse, we need 4 units of Captain Wright’s blood ready for transfusion.” she ordered as she picked up a vascular regenerator. “How long ago did this happen?” she asked the pair as she began to repair the damaged artery. Once the bleeding was under control she would check for any other injuries to the leg but she was keenly aware that Molly had lost too much blood to be hanging around.

Ensign Bailey (Doctor)

“I’m fine.” Molly uttered. Her tone was forceful but her voice was weak. “Please, I’m fine. Let me go back to my quarters. I just need rest and I’ll be fine in the morning.” However, uncharacteristically, she let herself be helped into the biobed by the two women; her body too weak to fight them.

Charlie raised an eyebrow as they helped her across to the bed. “I think we all know that’s a lie…” she added quietly as she repaired the damage to her artery.

The pain was searing but Molly gritted her teeth and did her best to pretend it was not there. She was starting to feel tired. So tired…

“About five to ten minutes ago.” Jersey shot. “Holodeck injury. If I didn’t know better I would say someone decided to take the safeties off the program.” She gave Molly an intense glare.

Charlie looked at the injury and nodded. “Yes, I would have to concur with your assessment there…” Charlie said as she checked the scans for any further injuries as the nurse came over with a shot of painkiller. She gently placed the hypospray against Molly’s neck and administered the shot.

The look made a particular thought come to Wright’s mind. “Jersey…” Her voice was pleading. “Please don’t tell Calvin.” But when she got no response from the young Marine, she gathered all the strength she could muster. “Don’t tell Calvin. That’s an order.” However, now laying in the biobed, the loss of blood was finally getting to her. The last thing she saw before passing out was Jersey’s bloodstained palm reaching for her commbadge once again.

=/\= Jersey to Harris. Raven, you need to come to Sickbay… now. =/\=

Capt. Wright, CIO & Sgt. Reyes

Charlie checked Molly was stable as they set up the transfusion before she turned to Jersey. “She was extremely lucky, if you hadn’t found her when you did, it could have been a lot more serious.” she said as she began to put her instruments back on the tray.

Ensign Bailey (Doctor)

There was only a moments pause before the comm snapped back. =A= I’m on my way. =A= Then, after about 10 seconds, the unmistakable glow of a beam in shimmered in the Sickbay as the Dresden’s Commanding Officer completed a Point-to-Point Emergency Teleport.

“What the frack is…” Calvin began to speak and then color drained from his face at the sight of Jersey and the floor and… “Goddamnit Jersey! What the hell happened to her!?” Harris was across the room before Jersey could even lift her foot. Harris took Molly’s hand in his as his eyes snapped back to the other two occupants of the room. In a tone so cold, Brianna thought her heart would stop, Harris spoke a single word. “Explain.”

Reyes shivered as the Marine’s eyes landed on her. She knew he would hurry but thought she had a few moments to compose herself before the Transport-phobe Harris beamed his ass in the room. “I… I…” Reyes looked to Bailey for a moment before realizing she had called… therefore it was her report. “… I was heading to the gym Sir… I rounded a corner and nearly ran over her as she came out of the Main Holodeck. I…” Jersey’s eyes went to the deck. “… I’m pretty certain she killed the safeties.”

Harris closed his eyes, his hands shaking before he turned to Bailey. “Doctor… how is she?”

Col. Calvin Harris & Sgt. Brianna “Jersey” Reyes

Charlie glances quickly at her scan results. “She’s stable now sir, she lost a lot of blood and I had to repair an artery that she sliced through but I’ve started a transfusion to replace the blood she’s lost. She’s resting now but she’s going to be weak until the transfusion has finished. We’ll keep a close eye on her sir,” she added.

Ensign Bailey (Doctor)

At the commotion the CMO came out of her office to see what was going on. Noting the presence of the two Captains, Jersey, and her latest Ensign, she moved over to a nearby biobed and began a thorough check of all their vitals, hovering nearby enough that she could keep and eye on Charlie encase she needed her. It also gave her the opportunity to observe her new staff member at work, without disturbing her.

“Thank you Ensign.” Harris said in a disheveled tone. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to stay with her until she wakes up. I won’t be any trouble or get in the way.” Harris knew he could make it an order but he did try not to interfere with the functioning of other departments just on his regard.

Charlie smiled and nodded, “Of course Captain, can I get you anything?” she asked as she beckoned a nurse over. “Nurse Andrews, please could you get a chair for the Captain?” she requested quietly as she continued to monitor Molly. She gave a reassuring nod to Elaine that everything was under control for the moment.

Ensign Bailey (Doctor)

Harris’ shoulders slumped slightly, a much more kind look coming across the man’s hard shell. “Thank you Doctor.” He said in a soft voice. Taking the chair, he sat next to Molly and took her hand in his. Sitting quietly for a moment, the Marine eyed his clerk and asked. “Can you bring me the PaDDs on my desk Brianna… I… I just can’t leave her like this.” He looked as though he would burst into tears and Jersey walked beside him, wrapping an arm around his shoulders. “Sure thing Pops… I’ll move out your meetings to the end of the week. Take your time.” With that, she was gone.

(TIME PASSES)

Harris never left the chair, diligently working on the tasks that couldn’t be put off… the Marine handled all the normal duties of a Starship Captain from the top of a double-height stack of boxes he used as a desk and along with a few PaDDs.

Molly stirred softly on the biobed.

It felt like awakening from a long night’s sleep but her body felt horribly sore. Her right leg especially. She tried moving it, only to realize that it was probably a bad idea. What had happened? Where was she?

Bright light flooded her eyes, as Wright tried to open them, and she closed them almost immediately. And suddenly, all came crashing down on her. The nightmare… the holodeck… the program… the spear that pierced her leg… Jersey… her bloodied hand reaching for her commbadge to call Cal–

Molly sat up abruptly as she tried to stop an action she didn’t know had occurred a good chunk of time before. Yet another bad idea, as when she applied force on her leg to make her body jump backwards on the bed, pain shot through it once more. The yelp escaped her lips before she could stop it.

Wright, CIO

The second that Molly moved, Calvin immediately dropped the PaDD he was reading and closed the roughly meter between them in a single step. “Easy Mols… you’re in Sickbay Babe.” His hands rested gently but with firm pressure… one on her shoulder the other holding down her right knee. “Now… we can go over what the hell you were thinking turning off the safeties in the Holodeck later.” His tone went momentarily hard as he said the words before switching back. “However, as for now, I want you to focus on getting better. So lie down…” He smirked and quickly said just loud enough for Molly to hear. “… ya damn lunatic…” With wink, his normal volume returned. “… and rest. Let the Docs do their stuff.”
