With command and psychology out of the way, Eshrallias was left to approach the final rung of the ladder that marked completion of her check ins. Admittedly, she had avoided her physical until the end for sake of explaining, again, what had occurred to leave her in the physical state she presented with. By now, she figured her medical records had been fully updated, giving the doctor a detailed analysis that would save Eshrallias time she did not fancy wasting on the past. She prayed, for the sake of her sanity, that was the case.

Stepping into the sickbay, her phlegmatic expression matching the rigidity in her stance, Vheris searched for any available doctor. She knew many of them had better tasks to complete than a boarding physical, but Eshrallias trusted at least one of them needed the excuse to get away from something mundane such as supply and inventory or something of the sort.

While she waited, Vheris kept to the front half of the sickbay as not to impose on those working around her. She knew well the irritation of someone getting in her way.

Lt. Cmdr. Eshrallias, CSO

There was a casual bustle to sickbay as Eshrallias waited to be seen to. Nurses, and doctors moved around the room with a sense of unhurried purpose. Just another shift in Sickbay. One nurse glanced over to where the Lieutenant Commander waited, but kept about her business. When she glanced over a second time she paused what she was doing and disappeared into the CMO’s office. A couple of minutes later she returned and resumed her work.

Not long after that the doors to the CMO’s office opened again and a petite woman emerged and after casting a brief glance around sickbay made her way over to Eshrallias. The woman was young and freshfaced, she looked barely old enough to have graduated from the Acadamy let alone have her own department. Yet, the way the bustle in Sickbay picked up at her appearence and the junior Lieutenant pips on her collar inferred that the young woman was most likely the CMO.

“Junior Lieutenant Janvier,” she introduced warmly, once she was next to Eshrallias, “Can I help you?”

Lt (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

“Lt. Commander Eshrallias,” she bowed her head in a gesture of acknowledgement to the young CMO, “a pleasure to meet you, Doctor.”

“Yes. As aggravating as it may be, Starfleet requires a mandatory physical upon every reassignment,” Vheris gestured to the sickbay as though it held value to her observation, “I was hoping you could spare a few minutes to confirm my health for the sake of duty.” Her exterior was sedate, despite the impish sarcasm that crept into her tone. She understood Starfleet’s reasoning for these evaluations, but that did not insinuate she was particularly keen about them.

“Well if it’s for the sake of duty,” Elaine smiled guesturing to an empty biobed nearby. “I could spare a few moments from writing up staff reports for the first officer. It might give me time to come up with a creative explaination as to why my staff should, or should not be considered for a promotion.”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

“Ah, one of the more difficult sides of being a department head.” Eshrallias remarked, shaking her head at the thought. Promotions were difficult, especially when one had to take into consideration the responsibility that would soon be thrust on the given person. Were they up for the challenge? It was hard to know until place in the position. Nodding, Vheris took a seat on the edge of the biobed. “Out of curiosity, is there a particular side you’re gravitating towards?”

Lt. Cmdr. Eshrallias, CSO

“It is, especially when most of your staff is older than you and think that means they know better.” Elaine sighed as she pulled out her tricorder and started scanning. “I hate to say ‘no’ but that’s the way I’m leaning. The candidate is a brilliant officer but they’re clumsy, and… excitable. A near fatal combination when working in sickbay, which I’m sure you can appreciate.” Janvier shook her head softly. It was a job she hated doing, but everytime she pictured placing NE Tyriell in charge or a project all she could see was him accidentally releasing a contagion in a fit of excitement.

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

“That puts you in quite the position,” Eshrallias shook her head at the thought. “Perhaps next year, with guidance, your candidate will better fit the criteria for promotion.” She respected enthusiasm in one’s profession, but part of being an Officer of Starfleet was learning balance. It didn’t appear Janvier’s JO knew much of such a concept. “Oh..yes. I don’t need a young doctor growing excitable as I’m laying half dead on a biobed. Especially one coming at me with a hypospray because he was too sparky to remember Andorian physiology.” Her voice was flat, but the amusement in her eyes indicated a joking manner.

Janvier’s scans would indicate Eshrallias’ body was still recovering from a traumatic event. Physically, it could be seen by the missing tip of her left antenna, which showed signs of burn scarring. Otherwise, she was healthy aside from mild tachycardia and low blood pressure (viewed as ‘normal’ in her medical file).

Lt.Cmdr. Eshrallias, CSO

“More time,” Janvier mused thoughtfully, “That is probably exactly what he needs. Thank you.” She glanced down at her the tricorder scans “Your scans say you’re in good health, but you’ve been injured recently.” She commented lightly, “How is the healing? If you need I have a salve I can give you that can sooth the new skin.”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

“As far as I can tell, well.” She subconsciously rolled her ankle where her body ended and the prosthetic began. “Doctors managed to repair majority of the burns, although they had to replace my foot with a cybernetic alternative. Unfortunate, but at least I can walk.” She shrugged. “As for this,” she gestured to her antenna, “it must heal on its own. For my people, losing an antenna is a mark of dishonour; a shame they must bear to the end. Mine is merely burnt, but to maintain my honour is to allow nature to take its course.”

Lt. Cmdr. Eshrallias, CSO

“Well if it preserves your honour, I won’t press it.” Elaine shrugged, tucking the salve away again. “Your injures are healing nicely and should continue to do so on their own. You’re fit for duty Lt. Commander,”

Lt. (j.g.) Janvier
CMO

Vheris slid from the biobed, brushing down any wrinkles that crept onto her uniform. “Thank you, doctor. I’ll see you around.” Heading for the door she paused, turning to glance over her shoulder, “Good luck with promotions. I’ve no doubt you’ll make a sound choice.” It was meant as a compliment, but Vheris’
glacial demeanor had a method of convincing otherwise.
