“Captain, I understand, I don’t want to do it either. But if it keeps them alive for a little bit longer. Long enough for the doctor to come up with something well, so be it.” He explained, “I am not going to be their buffet, but If I can give them just enough to live, then it may be worth it. Besides, I’m not a senior member of the staff, I’m expendable.” He said with a smile, trying to seem brave.

The argument was pointless and only making them lose time. A decision needed to be made, for better or for worse…

“Don’t make me put you behind a forcefield too, Lieutenant. There’s no such thing as an expendable member of the crew.” She said in a much harsher tone than before. For the most part, Molly could be very cold and hard to work with. However, her heart and her moral code were in the right place, even if those same two attributes had caused her a great deal of pain in the past.

Tapping her commbadge she did the only thing she could think of. She just hoped it was the right one.

=/\= Wright to Lieutenant Vock, I have the three passengers from the freighter on the Brig. They are very weak and seem to be starting to starve. The women don’t seem to know what they feed on besides the fact that it is on the neural energy of males. I would advise against transporting them to sickbay, but we need a way to help them without killing one of our crew members if we are to keep them alive. Is there any way that you can help us? =/\=

Molly didn’t trust the women. Even if they assured Ashur that they would not consume more than the strictly necessary, Wright didn’t know if they would keep their end of the bargain or even if their primal instincts wouldn’t take over. On the other hand, the women didn’t seem to know what they fed on, so it was also likely they didn’t know how much they needed to feed on either. Their best option would be to send them to Sickbay so that the doctor could examine them and take his own conclusions, but an examination required the CMO to be near them and the Doctor was male. There was no way Molly would put him in danger as well.

Capt. Wright, CIO

Cross Posted With Sickbay Thread:

=/\= Vock to Wright. The passengers feed by touch and absorb neural energy through their skin, correct? Find out if they can absorb the energy from anywhere on their bodies, or if it is a certain point they must feed from.=/\=

The CMO’s voice seemed slightly rushed, as if he was moving quickly.

Vock, CMO

=/\= Acknowledged. Stand by. =/\=

With a quick glance to Ashur, almost as if she was making sure he was not going to sacrifice himself, Molly walked back to the brig cells and spoke to the three women. “We are trying to find a way of helping you eat that will not involve any of us as your main dish. But for that I will need to ask a few more questions.” She paused. Even though Wright’s voice was level, the anger in her eyes was far from fully gone. “From what we understand from you, you feed by touch and absorb the neural energy you need through the males’ skin. But what we don’t know is whether you can absorb said energy from anywhere on the their bodies or if there is a certain point you must feed from?” Molly was far from an expert in anything scientific – her sister was the brain in the family, not her – so she uttered the CMO’s question almost exactly to make sure she wasn’t saying something she shouldn’t.

Capt. Wright, CIO

Hannibal turned to her. “We may not have the time to wait.” He said sadly.

A few moments later the guard at the door heard the chime of someone requesting entry. As the doors slid open, the tall figure of the Chief Medical Officer came into the containment area. He nodded at the guard, and then approached the two officers. “From your description, Captain Wright, I inferred that we may not have the time to wait. I have a theory as to how we can at least keep them from starving, if not provide them outright sustenance. But I will need to examine them.”

Vock, CMO

As the Vulcan spoke, Molly turned to face the CMO. Examining them? Wright wondered if it was a good idea to let the doctor go into the middle of starving women who he could perfectly be food for.

“Doctor… thank you for coming. What does the examination entail? I would discourage you from going inside the forcefield. You are male and they are starving. There is no guarantee they would not attack you and feast on you instead of letting you carry on your examination… I am aware this might be a stupid question, but… would it be possible for you to do it on the outside?”

Capt. Wright, CIO

Vock replied “Of course. I had no intention of getting near them until we have a solution. ” and he moved to the force field and took out his medical tricorder and began scanning the women.

Vock, CMO

Molly breathed out relieved. She really didn’t want to risk any more members of the crew.

Whilst the three looked humanoid, some of their internal structure and organs were very different from the humanoids that the Federation had so far encountered. As far as the medical tricorder could determine, their feeding organs were the index fingers on their hands. Their hearing organs were located where the ears were but where one thought their eyes were, they were more olfactory organs. They were sensing through smell than through visual. They also had energy sensing organs very close to their “eyes”, where they were able to sense where the source of neural energy was. In fact their eyes turned towards the doctor the moment he came near the forcefield. They breathed through various parts of their body that were covered by their clothes. Their hearts were within their chest cavities but they were about 2.5 times the size of a normal human heart. Their circulatory system was similar to humans that they had haemoglobin based blood. However, because of the way they were breathing, they had more vessels near the skin and they did not have lungs. However they have one of their breathing tubes in their mouths where their voices were generated. There was an organ that transformed neural energy into the kind of energy they would use to survive. The structure of the organ suggested that a small amount of weak electrical energy would be compatible as food. However, it would be like human beings drinking foul tasting soup.

Vock looked at the readings of the tricorder and then began making adjustments to the neural stimulator he brought with him. After a few moments, he looked at Wright and Hannibal. “They feed through their fingertips and transform neural energy into metabolic fuel. This -” and he held up the neural stimulator, “- replicates neural energy. It is used to help repair and maintain neurological systems in patients with neurological, spinal, or cerebral damage; and to assist those in a coma state to recover.” Once his calibrations were done, the machine was ready to transmit neurological signals and energy based on an average human male. He took the two contacts off of the device and looked at the prisoners.

“I am Lieutenant Vock, Chief Medical Officer. I believe I have a solution that will allow you to obtain sustenance without having to utilize a member of my crew. If you want to try it, all you need do is touch your feeding appendages to this device. It may not be enjoyable, but it should not be unpleasant and it will keep you from starving. I warn you, do not feed quickly. We will need to monitor your vital signs to ensure you are getting what you need without complication. Do you agree? And keep in mind, any attempt to touch anything or anyone other than these two contacts will result in the Security team reacting with force.”

Vock, CMO

Wright waited for the women’s reply as her fingers mindlessly grazed the phaser on her hip. They already knew what she was capable of, and that she didn’t play games while working. Hopefully, the doctor’s words would be incentive enough…

Capt. Wright, CIO

The women reached rather quickly for the device. It took about four seconds for Samki to suddenly withdraw from the device. The first to do so, she snarled, “What is this? this is awful!”

The next to withdraw was Namki. She had a look of disgust in her face but she did not make a sound.

Ikki was the last to withdraw. She had in all appearances been feeding slowly, as instructed. “Namki! Samki!” she called out, “Don’t fight it. It is unpleasant but it does take away the hunger, for the moment.” Then turning to the doctor, “You cannot feed us with inferior food for the rest of our lives,” she asked.

-GM

Vock’s expression did not change when he spoke. “I have no intention of doing so. I also have no intention of letting you feed off of my crew. This is a temporary solution that will keep you from starving to death while I can devise a more permanent solution to your situation. However, if your palates are more important than your lives…” and he slowly began to turn off the device and stop the flow of energy.

Vock, CMO

“Wait!” Sammi and Namki shouted together. Their voices betrayed their discomfort with the ‘food’ they were imbibing but they were not ready to stop feeding yet.

“A little while longer,” pleaded Ikki, “please!”

-GM

Vock looked at them, his face the same expressionless canvas it had always been. When he spoke, his voice was even… but there was an unexpected bite to his words that would be evident to those who had dealt with him before. “As I said, this will keep you fed until I can find a more suitable solution. But let me tell you this, ladies. I expect you to be on your best behavior from this point on. You do not make demands of me this ship’s crew. You do not dictate to me or this crew. Your continued reliance upon this device is entirely within my purview; and the amount of time I spend trying to find a more palatable food source for you is in direct proportion to how well you behave. I suggest you do your best to make amends for your… past behaviors. Do I make myself clear?” he asked as he handed the contacts back and resumed the energy flow.

Vock, CMO

Sammi nodded but her eyes showed defiance. Namki and Ikki nodded and had gratitude in their eyes.
-GM

Soon the three had enough and allowed the CMO to retrieve his “nutrition” for them. They kept quiet and did not make any noise in the brig.

Vock ran a scan of the three women and made sure that their vitals were stable. He then made sure he had all of the equipment he brought with him and turned to the CIO. “This will keep them fed until a more suitable source can be attained or designed. Think of it as their equivalent of stale bread and water. I will come by twice a day to allow them to feed. In the mean time I will - ” and he cast a sideways glance at the three to make sure they were paying attention and then back to the CIO “- as long as they behave themselves - experiment with a more stable and palatable source of energy for them. Is that acceptable to you, Ma’am?”
