Bethany finished her coffee, set the cup down and thanked Reed. She headed out and back to deck 26 and cargo bay 5. She had to get the shuttle system broken down. She entered the bay and looked over at Athena. “Alright, old girl. Let’s see exactly what F’ac did to you.” She turned off the force field, stepped through and turned it back on. She didn’t need any more wayward crewmen coming in and shocking themselves on a dare while she worked. She opened the cargo hatch and stepped in. Laying her hand on the control panel, “Computer activate repair and engineering bypass mode for as long as I am inside or within 15 feet of the exterior.” ACKNOWLEDGED REPAIR AND ENGINEERING BYPASS ACTIVATED.

Bethany pulled up the schematics on the security system and began to remove panels to follow the diagrams with the actual thing. This was NOT her area, but usually with a manual she could figure it out. She spent a couple hours following lines, and power outlets, and a range of other techie stuff she didn’t know much about. “AH! Found you.” She wedged herself farther under the main console to get at the power supply for it. The shuttle was powered down and there shouldn’t be a problem. She scanned it with a tricorder just to make sure–no power to the console. “Alright let’s get you out of there.” She grabbed the tool she’d put down and started working at unplugging it.

The was a loud snap and sizzle sound. “OW!” and she began cussing. About the same time she came out from under the console, the display screens turned on. The face of a very old woman appeared. The dark hair and brow ridges of a Klingon, but the high cheek bones, angled eye brows and point ears of a Vulcan. A dark gravely chuckle came from her. “Oh no girl. You aren’t getting rid of my little present that easy. You have two ways to get the secret from me. You know what they are. Or you can electrocute yourself.” Bethany groaned and looked at her hand. “ow…” She glared at the face on the screen. “Nope, nope, nope. I”ll just leave the system in there. I’m not doing it.”

“Do I have to send you to medical as well?” Came the bemused voice of Stores. The new Operations Chief has gone back to his office to finish some paper work and tidy up but as he was signing out noticed the cation field was still off line. Not relishing the oncoming shift finding a crispy fried Counselor he decided to check before he grabbed dinner and a shower.

Bethany looked up at Reed and groaned. “No, and this is our little secret.” She rubs at the spot again and looks at her hand. No mark, just some residual tingling. “There is no need for anyone else to know my shuttle turned on me.” She huffs and gets up off the floor. “That thing isn’t coming out or turning off.” She starts muttering and swearing to herself. “She’s gonna make me get rid of my new shuttle.” She glares at the face on the screen again and sticks her tongue out at it. She starts putting panels back in place.

“Well when you get tired of being bit, and before you let us strip her for spares let me know, I might know trick of two to dislodge your new upgrades.” He was never a huge fan of practical jokes, they could have unintended consequences on a ship.

“Until then she isn’t hurting anything parked right here, just remember to turn the cation field back on.” Crew was crew, and crew was family so anything the young woman needed he would try to do for her.

“I am tired of being bit.” She grumbled, but quickly and silently laughed at herself. “I should have known better. Honestly it’s a brilliant security system, but it has no place here.” She looks the shuttle over. “If you can get it out of her, by all means. Engineering is NOT my forte.” She pulled up the schmatics again, looking it over. She KNEW that was the main power relay for the system and it didn’t power anything else. She just had to figure out how to get it out without frying herself to a crisp.

“Got a Tricorder?” A simple question wile he pulled up the ship’s specs and the transporter lots of moving her. It would take a few minuets for the computer to compare the ‘should be with the is’ of the situation the company was pleasant.

“So tell me about your friend.”

Bethany dug under the side control console for the tricorder she’d been using earlier. Finally pulling it out, she handed it to Reed. “Hmmm…now that’s an interesting question. She’s a science officer with way too much technological know how. She’s a throw back to the Borg wars. She was,” oh this was hard. She didn’t know how much of the information was classified. Well it was the Borg and recon was dissolved and declassified years ago. “She was part of a team responsible for taking out 4 different Borg ships. She’s inventive, and has that wicked Klingon humor supported by scary Vulcan logic. And if you are familiar with the history of Dresden, her files should still be here. Lt. Cmdr. F’actar, CSO. She was on the Dresden when they went to the delta quadrant to bring Voyager back.” (OOC: Yes she really was that was a sim we played out once!)
