Bethany had one last check in-medical. She left the XO’s office and took the turbolift down to the medical deck. She stepped off and headed inside. Bethany didn’t particularity look forward to seeing a doctor, but she wasn’t avoidant either. She knew some who did, just like they avoided counselors. She looked at a passing nurse. “Lt. Gadi,” she held out her hand. “New CNS, I’m here for my physical if a doctor is available.”

The nurse nodded, “Of course Lt. Take a seat on a bio bed and I’ll get the doctor.” Before she could walk away, Bethany handed the nurse a iso chip with her medical records on it. She moved over to the nearest empty bio bed and hopped up onto it. She looked around, trying to get a feel for the type of people who worked in here. She supposed at times she would need to work closesly with this part of the crew as well, other than counseling sessions.
Lt. Gadi, CNS

Many of the doctors, nurses and medics that passed by as they went about their assignments had bags under their eyes, or some form of weariness in their face. Many of them still recovering from last minute check-ins and physicals that had left it to the last minute. Bethany had arrived only a few days after, when the medical crew were still in the recovery phase from the sudden onslaught of work. Despite the evident post-departure recover phase, Sickbay had an almost energetic air about it. Conversations drifted through the air to where the CNS was sitting. One nurse was animatedly telling a patient about her 4th husband, while a pair of medics joked about the mission being a medical vacation, and a doctor was gushing to the nurse she was working with about how cute she thought someone by the name of Enj was. On one of the few occupied biobeds a small ball of black and white fluff was performing tricks for the patient there. At a distance it could almost be mistaken for a tribble if not for the tail.

Bethany listened to the idle conversation around her, smiling at some of the brief things she heard. She was trained to listen and pick up on the nuansences of conversation and body language. This, however, was just idle curiosity and because the staff wasn’t exactly being quiet, and so the sound carried. She spotted the ball of fur and then the tail and smiled a little as it played around on the biobed.

The door to the CMO’s office opened and the nurse who had initially seated Gadi, reappeared with a petite young woman carrying a PADD. At the sound of the door, the fluff ball jumped off the biobed it had been on and joined them. As the small group drew closer, a nose and four legs could be spotted, before the animal bolted for Gadi. The animal stopped just shy of the Counselor and nudged her gently with it’s nose followed by one very wet tongue.

Bethany smiled and despite the small size of the dog, he had a huge personality and strong instincts. Despite being only half Betazoid, she could still feel the exuberance and happiness of the small fluff ball. She bent down and pet the dog. “Hello there. I think you are barely bigger than Luna. You are certainly as sweet.”

The nurse chuckled, while the doctor simply shook her head with resignation and a touch of embarrassment, telling Bethany that this wasn’t the first time someone in Sickbay had been greeted so… enthusiastically. “I can take it from here,” The doctor directed at the nurse before turning her focus onto Sickbays latest visitor, “I apologize for him. He is the the ships most overzealous moral officer. He likes to know everyone on the ship, but I can have him removed if he is bothering you. He can be a touch energetic.”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

Bethany stood up and offered her hand to the doctor. “No he’s sweet. And such strong feelings from such a small animal. But I like him. What’s his name?” She waited for the doctor to answer and then introduced herself. “I’m Bethany Gadi, the new ship’s counselor.”
Lt Gadi, CNS

“His name is Enj, he’s a bit of a favourite around here, but I had to ask.” the doctor fondly ruffled the dogs head before accepting the handshake. Despite the doctors petite and delicate appearance her handshake was firm. “You don’t happen to be the reason I’ve had several yellows visit recently?” The corner of her mouth twisted up in mirth more than in vexation. “Elaine Janvier, the resident CMO. Welcome aboard.”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

OOC: And this is why I LOVE the Dresden. People read what’s going on elsewhere in the ship and make it part of their threads. I LOVE THIS!
IC:
She leaned down to pet the dog again, “It’s so nice to meet you Enj.” Bethany’s handshake was equally confident and reassuring. Bethany had the decency to look a little sheepish, but only momentarily, at the doctor’s question. “Apparently so. I warned them when I came aboard. But luckily the good Mr. Reed helped me figure out how to get that security system out of my shuttle. Took me all of two shifts to get rid of it.” She rubs her hand absently remembering the shock it gave her when she tried to remove the systems power supply. “With any luck he’s already recycled the parts and it’s long gone now.”
Lt. Gadi, CNS

Janvier chuckled, “I had a feeling it could be something like that. Though they tried to tell me different, they’re fairly familiar faces in Sickbay for their antics,” she shook her head at the memory. All 3 officers had been adequately treated, although they would find that they attracted more static electricity than normal for the next day or two. Hopefully it would be enough incentive to stay out of Sickbay, though knowing them, Janvier doubted it.

“Stores uh Reed, is fairly handy when it comes to that kind of thing,” The doctors smiled fondly, “The dodgier, the better. Although what were you doing with such an intense security system?”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

“Stores? So that’s who the guys in the mess were talking about. That makes sense now. And he is very handy. He was a huge help to me. That system would still be in the shuttle if not for him. He showed me the video too. Those yellows were playing chicken with my security system.” At the doctor’s question Bethany actually flushed with a little embarrassment. “Well, Doc that’s a bit of a long story. But I’ll try to make it short. My mentor used to be the CO of the Dresden, way back when. Actually she was the CNS first. And before that, well that was before Intel was formed. She was in recon. She and her recon partner got transferred to Dresden when it was all over. Her partner used to be CSO. When they found out I was heading out here, they decided…” she looks contemplative, “I needed to be initiated I guess.” One reason was because she was Intel, but after the CO and XO’s response to her being with Intel Bethany didn’t feel like giving that information away. Bethany had never been ashamed of her role in Intel, and was proud of it. But now, she was disappointed and unsure. But the captain was the former CIO of the ship, so maybe the crew was used to it and it didn’t bother them. “Rigged that security system into my shuttle. I’m sure she thought it was hilarious. Of course they told me it was because I was flying out here all by myself, but I don’t buy it completely. Probably because I was with Intelligence before, and most of my ‘experience’ was from behind a desk or in an office.”

The doctor laughed, good naturedly, “Once a Dresden crew member, always a Dresden officer. I’ll let the counselling department know you’ve been initiated already,” she winked, “But first lets get your exam over with,”

Bethany hopped up onto the bio bed so the doctor could do her exam.
Lt. Gadi, CNS

Following Gadi’s lead, Enj jumped onto the biobed next to her and lay his head on her lap. He very pointedly refused to look at Janiver, wagging his tail hopefully, although he knew it was futile. He knew that when Janvier pulled her tricorder out he had to hop down again. Janvier couldn’t risk accidently mixing his bio signs with Gadi’s. “Enj,” she said firmly, when it became apparent the dog wouldn’t move without prompting. Enj stood up, did his best to look pitiful and jumped down. “You can go back after I’m done,” she promised.

Pulling up the Counselors file on the PADD with the iso chip. She briefly scanned through, after years of evaluations she knew just where to look to find the information she needed. “Is there anything else I should know about, that I might not find in your file?” she asked, it was a question she liked to ask before she started scanning. It gave patients a chance to disclose any injuries or illnesses or changes that they may have acquired between physicals. It also helped her figure out just what the patient was going to be like as a patient, or at least make it easier to spot the hypochondriacs and the anosognisiacs.
