The engines thrummed to like and the vibrations could be felt momentarily through the deck. As the ship drifted away from the dock, the comms activated.

=/\= Bridge to Sickbay. Lieutenant Janvier, I coming subspace communication. Patching through to your office. =/\=

Janvier halted in her stride out of her office, talk about timing, she had just been on her way to replicate a coffee and something to eat. While she could use her personal replicator Stores had promised her he’d upgrade it with Issacs brew after the ship had left dock and he had spare time. With his new promotion he had become a very busy man. So until then it was trips to the Mess Hall to pick up her coffee, unless she was desperate enough for the old flavour.

Settling back down in her seat she tapped her comm badge =^=Acknowledged, Patch it through =^= As the staff on bridge transferred the communication through, she shifted a couple of books and reports around to try and make her desk look neater.

Lt. Janvier, CMO

There was a slight delay and then a human male’s face appeared before her on the screen. “Ah. Lt. Javier, I presume. My name is Dr. Aston Hornly. I am the Editor-In-Chief of the Federation Journal of Medicine. I was hoping for a loment of your time, if I may?”
Hornly was a legend. Virologist, epidemiologist, and diagnostician of impeccable skill, he had served as Star Fleet Medical Director for many years before retiring. He then took over the Federation Journal of Medicine, and it swiftly became the preeminent medical publication throughout Federation space and some ways beyond.

“It would be my pleasure,” Janvier smiled doing her best to look and sound professional. Hopefully Hornly wouldn’t notice her voice was slightly higher than normal or her smile was a touch too wide. She hadn’t recognised his face but she knew his name and the Federation Journal of medicine. It was renowned in the medical world an Janvier herself had several copies of the latest editions in her office. “If you don’t mind my saying, I found your article on Ionized Radiation Skin Therapy has been incredibly useful and insightful in the field.”

Hornly inclined his head humbly and said “I appreciate the compliment, although the credit should go to the contributors. I simply packaged their findings for dissemination.”

She paused realising that this man was a medical profession, who had been a doctor for longer than she had been alive. His expertise was renowned, too renowned to be contacting any run-of-the-mill fleet doctor. Just what was it that she had that he needed? What had brought her name to his attention? She racked her brains, but couldn’t come up with anything. “How may I be of assistance?”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

“I understand that your ship is going to the Julian Echo station. Is that correct, Doctor?” Hornly asked matter-of-factly.

GMT

Janvier blinked. Of all the questions to ask, she hadn’t been expecting that one. She didn’t know quite what she thought he was going to ask her, but she was sure that she was expecting something more medically related than the ships destination. If she was being honest she was a little disappointed that whatever this was, it wasn’t going to be a medical conversation. Yet Hornly had asked the question so frankly, as if he expected her to expect it. Just what did the Julian Echo station - a place she had only vaguely recognised until a few days ago - mean to the medical community? “Yes, that would be correct.” she affirmed, “It’s a Science and Engineering based station, designed for observation.”

Lt. Janiver, CMO

Hornly smiled slightly and said “Oh, it is much more than that, I assure you.” and he looked away for a moment. The CMO’s console alerted her to a file being received. “Here is the article we ran on the station at its unveiling. In addition to its observational capabilities, it has a top of the line Biology lab… part of which has been tasked with the development of an experimental program for the synthesis of a neuroplastine protein that, it is hoped, will be able to reverse the effects of radiation poisonings most species. As I am sure you are well aware, that would be a significant development in the medical sector. The reason it is being done on the station is that it was discovered by doctors at the Bajoran Medical Institute that high levels of radiographic radiation are needed to bind the molecules… levels that exists in stellar bodies such as brown dwarf stars.”

GMT

Janvier looked away as she read the file he had sent through. Aware that she was in the middle of a conversation, she quickly skimmed it for any pertinent information wishing she had paid attention to that particular article when it had been written at the stations unveiling. She had assumed that because it was a observation station it would be more scientific than medical. She was kicking herself now. “If they are successful in their research this could be the closest the medical world will be to a universal cure.” her eyes were bright with excitement as she turned her attention back to Hornly. “This could be groundbreaking. Since the station is the only one of its kind. I understand why you are interested. Have the reports been promising?”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

A brief cloud came over his face and he said “Thats the problem. There haven’t been any reports. Well, nothing official. The Chief Medical Officer on the station is an old friend, and we have discussed informally the progress the lab was making… but I haven’t heard from them in weeks. I was hoping that when I heard your ship was going to the station, I could ask you to let me know what is happening? Personally, of course. I’m not looking for a story… Im really just worried about my friend. I hope that isn’t too much of a request?”

GMT

“Of course,” The doctor smiled sympathetically all to familiar with the separation of a loved one be they family of friend. She had witnessed it many times in the past and occasionally experienced it brief panic when her sister forgot to call Elaine back. “When we arrive at Julian Echo Station I will make some inquires about your friend for you and let you know. Considering we’re both doctors it shouldn’t be too hard to get in touch.”

Lt. Janvier, CMO

A look of relief washed over the man’s face and he smiled slightly. “Thank you, Doctor. I am in your debt. I really appreciate it.” He looked away for a moment and then back at the screen. “I do have to go, but I have sent you my personal contact information. Please… let me know what’s happened. Good or bad. Thank you.”
