Priscilla came in a few minutes ahead of the others. Seeing Stores, she grinned. “The XO tag you with what’s going on, yet?” She moved to the pallet of crates he was sitting on and removed her uniform shirt, tugging her white tshirt down afterwards. “Gotta make some probes to send out ahead of us towards Julian station. There’s some strange readings and no one’s answering the comms, even this close.” She was full of worry, but was trying not to show it. A station as sophisticated as Julian shouldn’t have this kind of telemetry issues already. It was far too new.

“Nope, I am to prep away teem kits for posable SAR, Issac asked for an assist here with probes. Not exactly in the loop as to the mission, I was still acting Quarters Master at the time the department heads were briefed” Stores said as he pored Priscilla a cup of coffee. “We are still way out of range of a standard probe, they range eighty thousand K or so, I can push them about half again with some of my magic , we are still forty some odd hours pot at warp Seven plus.” So we will be just seconds away before we can launch probes that way.” the look of Stores said he had a plan that the powers to be might ]not like.

Stores

Mason raised an eyebrow as he spotted just how many were gathered in the Cargo Bay. It looked like it was about to be a party, and who was he to pass on that. Slipping next to Stores he leaned in and quietly spoke to the man. “Have I missed anything important yet?”

James Mason, COE

Handing Mason a cup as he leaned in, he whispered “Nope, think we’re still waiting on Issac.”

Stores

Priscilla nodded. “Well let’s get started. We need the probes to launch as soon as we are in range. And they need to be shielded enough for protection, but not so much they are mere rocks we shoot in the direction of the station.” When Mason walked in, she smiled. “Hey, Mason. Welcome to the party. Grab some coffee, compliments of our great supplier,” she nodded to Stores with a wink, “and let’s get started.”

She let Stores inform them which casings would be best and then they all started gathering materials to make however many probes they could.

((Sorry, just moving us along a bit so we don’t flounder in small talk… GM, please let us know how many we can make in the time allotted.))

The tell-tale noise of an incoming transport interrupted the ongoing conversation. Forgrave appeared with a grimace on his face, one hand resting on a proton torpedo mounted onto a large cart. “Apologies for my lateness, folks. Figured I’d get things started on my end.” He rapped the torpedo with his knuckles. “Had my techs gut this thing; all’s left is drives and comms; thought it may well work as a starting point so we ain’t starting from scratch. And not like we got a shortage of ‘em.” A glance inside would reveal the modular nature of the torpedo; as well as the cavernous hollow that had contained the payload.

Leaving the cart where it was, he shook off the remaining tingles from the transport and joined the group; gladly accepting a mug of coffee with a smile. “Thanks for the coffee, Stores - I knew I could count on ya. An Mason; congrats on the promotion! Well-earned, I got no doubt on that. I reckon Lt. Simms has briefed y’all on the problem?”

OOC: Apologies for the tardiness of my reply; let things get away from me recently!
-Forgrave, CoS

“We’ll have to see how long it sticks to my collar,” Mason replied with a sardonic grin before looking down at the gutted proton torpedo. “And I’ve heard the jist. The station’s being quiet and we’re getting the heeby jeebies about not getting any reply. There for its time to peep over their should and see just wants going on.

Looking back to everyone the man raised an eyebrow. ” So what are we stuffing into this shell in order to survey things ahead? Anything special or just a standard surveying package?”
Mason, CE

OOC: You have two days. In that time you should be able to get three or four probes on line and ready.

Priscilla smiled. “Seems we’re all at least on the same page. Yes, regular survey package, but with a few tweeks. We need to make sure it can stand the special atmospheric needs as it closes in on the base. The readings in the area will be flooded with anomalous energies the probes aren’t used to. An over saturation of chroniton particles, for one. And we have to also deal with possible temporal flux issues as well.” She glanced around letting it sink in.

“All right… then let’s get to it. We need to launch at least two, preferably four, of these babies in less than two days.” She smiled and nodded to the others, setting her coffee cup down with a sigh. She had the feeling it was going to be a while before she got to enjoy another cup.

((figure everyone can chime in once more or so then we can fast forward to two days, to launch time… since bridge is already in ‘arrival’ mode))

“In that case we should get to stuffing these surprise presents then,” Mason said with a grin as he stood and walked over to the stripped down probe. Taking a moment to look down into the empty probe he paused and then looked at the CSO. “One last question. Are we minding if people know where the probes are? Or are we going to be sending them in to passively listen?”

Mason, CE

Priscilla sighed. “I would say, let’s not worry about it. Perhaps not blasting Klingon opera for all to hear. But the Captain said nothing about stealth. We want intel, and with a station already there, it’s not like we are gathering secrets in the Neutral Zone.” She nodded and smiled. “But good question. Thanks for at least considering it.” She started to help move the casing so more could come in and they got to work.
