Hsull continued to enjoy the coffee, “Orders actually, I had gone about as far in rehab as I could and Star Fleet saw that the Dresden lacked a Tactical officer, so here I am, the new and the old hopefully melding into the present.” Hsull put the coffee down for a moment. “Counselor, I understand that you’re half Betazoid, does that help you in your evaluations ? I’ve been trained to block my emotions and thought to all but a direct mind meld, but I see no reason to do so here. So tell me what do you sense coming from me right now ?” Hsull did this as a test of sorts, the Counselor might prove to be an important asset in determining a tactical solution to a problem in the future. He thought of his family, his siblings and how long it had been since he had seen them.

Hsull - TO

Bethany sat her cup down as well and regarded the Warrant Officer. “Actually, it doesn’t. By Betazoid standards I don’t even test as telepathic or empathic. For me to sense anything it has to be very clear.” She sat for a moment concentrating on him. It was easier because he was willing to let her ‘hear.’ “You miss someone. Who it is I have no way of knowing. And curiosity, perhaps.” She took in his posture, facial expressions, and other body language. He was testing her, and she honestly didn’t mind. “My training as an observer would be of more use to you than my empathy. I worked and trained with Star Fleet Intelligence before coming to Dresden. I worked for them as a counselor, and that is where the majority of my experience lies.”
Lt Gadi, CNS

Hsull nodded agreement, “I’m glad to hear that, and I’m sure your talents will come in handy. Someone who is trained to observe often notices things that to others may seem insignificant but turn out to be the very clue that’s needed to make a decision or solve a problem.” Hsull picked up his coffee and took a sip. “I was thinking about my family and that I needed to contact them. They know I have a new assignment, but not where, now do you have any questions for me about any thing ?”

Hsull - TO

“I know you were injured in the line of duty and as you’ve said you just left rehab. I don’t like to pester officers. I believe we are all adult enough to recognize when we need help, physical, mental, or with our duties. You’ve been injured in the line of duty and for some it’s another day in the office, for others it’s life altering. So how are you feeling about what happened to you, your recovery, and returning to active duty?” It was meant as a blunt question. His reports from the medical facility showed he was cleared for duty. What she needed was to get to know him and have a base line for his personality.
Lt Gadi, CNS

Hsull continued to sip his coffee savoring the flavor. “I don’t have any hard feelings about what happened, I made a choice and the consequences were a result of that choice. My time in medical and rehab were necessary but I am more than glad to be back on the job. There isn’t a lot to occupy your mind in rehab, you’re so locked in on getting your body back in shape that your mind tends to atrophy, so to speak. I am very glad to be here and hope to be of use to the Captain and crew.”

Hsull - TO

Bethany took another sip of her coffee while she listened. She’d finished her fresh brewed cup a few hours ago and was now using the replicator. She really needed to put a coffee pot here in her office. “What do you want me to understand about you? Either as an individual, a member of your species, or as the tactical officer, or something all together different.”
Lt Gadi, CNS

Hsull took another sip of coffee as he considered the question the counselor had posed. “Let me give you a composite picture, as an individual you will find that I am very task oriented, as a Caitian I’m a bit unusual in that I’m a bit larger than a normal member of my species and as you’ve probably noticed I have no tail to speak of, as the Tactical Officer I would hope that I have enough experience and knowledge under my belt to deal with the unknowns and the occasional bogeyman that we might come up against. I guess I want you to understand that I will do my job to the best of my ability using whatever means are made available to me, be that knowledge, experience, science or whatever.” Hsull sipped his coffee then looked directly at the counselor and winked, “or a trained observer.”

Hsull TO

Bethany smiled and laughed lowly. She raised her coffee mug in an amused salute to him. After another sip, and she frowned at it slightly, it was getting cold, now that it was an hour after she’d originally ordered it. She walked over to the replicator, ordering a fresh cup. “Would you like another?”

Sitting back down, “So what can I do to help you? As a counselor or a fellow officer or as a person? What questions can I answer for you?”
Lt Gadi, CNS

Hsull grinned, or as much as a Caitian could grin, which was more of a parting of the lips and showing just the tips of his teeth. “Yes, please. Somehow I’ve become addicted to the stuff, I even have a collection of coffee mugs from various ships and commands.” He rose and placed his empty cup in the reclamation slot. “I think you’ve all ready helped me, I appreciate an unbiased ear every once in a while, with an opinion to match. One question you can answer for me as a fellow officer and person, what is your opinion of Ltjg. Forgrave and Col. Chandler ?”

Hsull - TO

Bethany ordered him another cup and handed it to him. “Well make sure your name is on your mug, everyone here is main linning coffee so yours might go missing if you aren’t careful.” It was half joke/half serious. No one on the crew would steal another’s coffee, but that wasn’t to say they might pick it up out of desperation by mistake and down the whole thing.

“Well let’s see,” she considered as she sat back down. “I don’t know Col Chandler. I’ve not had the chance to meet him yet. But his marine’s speak very highly of him. He’s fair, level headed, and no non-sense. He is not the type of leader people want to follow, he’s the type of leader people DO follow. He’s in a relationship with the Captain. Happened long before she was made CO. But it speaks to their commitment, his ego and his pride, in a positive way that her promotion hasn’t changed him.”

“Now Lt Forgrave, I know. He’s brutely honest. He’s aware of his own short comings and will voice them, being honest with himself and others. He’s all business on the clock, but easy to work with. As long as his honesty doesn’t bother you. That honesty carries over to his security officers, meaning he won’t sugar coat mistakes, but he will help them fix them. And,” she nods towards the rabbit cage, “he likes Luna, which is a plus in my book. He’s also the first person to not suggest I put Luna in a stew and have her for dinner.”

“As for the two of them I would say they either work very well together, or are very good at keeping their departments out of each others’ way. There is no cross fighting between our security officers and our marines. I’m inclined to say that is a reflection of their department leaders.”
Lt Gadi, CNS

Hsull reflected on what the counselor had said. “That’s good to know, I know Marines can be a prickly bunch at times.” Hsull thought about what she said about putting Luna in a stew, personally he preferred his meat nearly raw, why spoil it by cooking it, and Luna was cute besides. “If that’s all you have for me counselor, I’m going to try and meet up with Mr. Forgrave and the Col. and try to see what their plans are for the boarding party.”

Hsull TO

“No, nothing else. I’m here if you need my services, as varied as they are. And I shall wish you luck, along with Forgrave and the Col., in creating a working collaboration.” Bethany stood up and offered her hand, and then collected the coffee mugs.

After Hsull left, Bethany walked over to the replicator, “Coffee, Forgrave’s Brew, Hot, black.” She took the mug and blew on it before taking a sip. She hadn’t offered this particular recipe to Hsull. She knew Issac wasn’t fond of the name, and she figured she’d give him the ‘honor’ of offering his own blend of coffee up to the new tactical officer. But now that she had the recipe, she shamelessly took personal advantage of it.
