OOC: Oops! In all honesty, I (the player) completely forgot about checking whether the atmosphere would be compatible. However, I would assume that would be present in the first scans that were made of the ship as it would be quite standard info to check for. – Joana

Renveer raised an eyebrow, his lips pursing slightly at their guest’s confidence with giving the Dresden’s officers orders. The implication that Dr. Drillek doubted that the ensigns’ work would be sufficiently safe was not lost on the executive officer. It left a bad taste in his mouth. But he allowed the Captain to put the scientist in his place, if she saw fit.

Instead, he nodded wordlessly to Lieutenant Simms, signaling for her to run the scans that would determine if the atmosphere was breathable.

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)

Just like Renveer, Molly rose an inquisitive eyebrow at Drillek as a few concerns popped in her mind, raised by his words. And you are a guest on the Dresden. If anything is amiss, you assist… you don’t direct. Got it , Doctor? The words Hallsley had spoken to the Engineer in their briefing before departure suddenly made sense to Holloway. “Dr. Drillek, rest assured that the this ship’s crew knows what they are doing, and no detail will be left out, much less something as routine as atmospheric scans of the alien vessel.”

Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Renveer silently questioning the CSO about it. There was no reason for her to intervene any further.

=^= Lieutenant Janvier, to Captain Halloway; I’ve just looked at the reading and I think that the stasis field is some sort of temporal time loop. It’s incredibly small, I nearly missed it. However if I’m right than any communication you have been receiving, could possibly be echos from the loop. =^=

Dr Janvier, CMO

It was then that Janvier’s comm halted everything else in Molly’s mind. Quickly turning to face Simms at the Science Station, she asked the Science Chief. “Time loop? Could the transmission we’re receiving be affected by this?” How could it be? After all, the aliens seemed to be ‘responding’ in some fashion to what she had been relaying as if they were in the same timeline.

“Time loop? Is that… Is that something we can even investigate? Without getting trapped, I mean? And how small are we talking, here? I’m sorry, I know I’m throwing a lot of questions out at once… but we already got at least one ship trapped here. I ain’t keen on adding to the list.” Issac shook his head; not really expecting answers right off the bat; nor wanting to question the mission itself. “So, we’ve drafted our two Ensigns here… but who all is going aboard?”

-Forgrave, CoS

“Yes, Sir.”

Priscilla began immediate scans to see if the atmospheres were compatible. She chided herself for not thinking of it herself.

She also checked for gravity. Just because the beings weren’t floating didn’t mean anything.

At the mention of a time loop, she frowned. “It can’t be that big of a loop since they seem to be responding to us. Perhaps their bridge is outside the sphere of influence. Those inside the sphere would suffer the loop. But not the bridge and not us as long as the bubble isn’t expanding.” She quickly took readings of that as well, seeing if the bubble circumference had increased at all since their first scan.

The field remained stable with regards to it’s area of effect. The ‘loop’ seemed to be less than one-one hundredths of a second. As the scans came back of the vessel, some new information was available.

The front two-thirds of the ship were inside the field. Comms seemed to be coming from the aft section where the docking point had been identified previously. The atmosphere inside was comparable to Earth, but gravity was a a fraction less; but nothing problematic. A total of sixty-eight life forms were detected aboard the vessel, all matching the life signs of the ones they had been conversing with… save one. One was most certainly human.

Holloway remained expectantly to see what Science had to report. She crossed her arms and tapped her foot lightly on the deck, hoping this new revelation would not set them back a few hours of communication and work.

Holloway, CO

OOC: Just to clarify and help move things along:

The comms are not compromised. The source of them seems to be coming from a terminal outside of the field in the aft of the alien ship… fortunately near the docking portal you all found. The majority of life signs on the ship are in the field, including the human one, but there are about a dozen that are clear of it and moving around in the rear of the vessel.

(OOC: Where can I jump back in?)

OOC: You can assemble anyone you want to go to the hatch. First Contact coming…

Priscilla shook her head. “No, the loop is so minuscule it’s not an issue. Not even a full second. But the ones we are talking to are outside that sphere of influence, so our conversations aren’t compromised.” She glanced a bit harder at the screen then turned to the others with a slight frown on her face. “And there is a human aboard their ship. Outside the sphere.” The declaration was made with both certainty and confusion. Sure, a human on their ship made sense. If the Dresden were hooked to the station and this happened, she’d probably have someone from there on this ship as well. But it hadn’t occurred to her, till now, to even look for one. “Maybe they can help speed up the dialog and help us understand what’s occurred.”

She then looked at Drillek. “Do you think there are scientists, outside the sphere of influence, that could help us on the station? A connection there would be extremely helpful as well.” She wasn’t sure why they weren’t talking to the station at this moment, as well. Sure, she hadn’t thought of it till now, either. But now she had. And getting it ‘straight from the horse’s mouth’, so to speak, would be the best thing for all of them. Wouldn’t it?

Drillek looked at Simms for a long moment before speaking. “Lieutenant… unless you have scans that I don’t have, you should be seeing the entire station encompassed in that field. So I am confused as to why you would think there is someone on the station that isn’t affected. But, let us hypothesize. If there is someone safe within the field… the systems themselves are in the field, and therefore stuck in the same loop as everything else. So what do you propose we do to ‘make that connection’, as it were?”

At that time, the proximity alert sounded. The Dresden was within docking range of the alien ship.

GMT

“That’s quite enough, Doctor.” Holloway snapped at Drillek. As the Dresden closed in on the alien vessel, and after the docking mechanism had been set, the Engineer’s behavior had become a little too much on the aggressive side for Molly’s liking. She understood that he had a personal connection to the station in the form of his son. So maybe that was putting the man a little on edge. Holloway made a mental note about it.

Renveer’s attention snapped to Lieutenant Simms. “A human? On their ship?” It was an alarming development… deciphering the intentions of the aliens was already difficult, but now it appeared that not only did the aliens dock with the station before the anomaly appeared, but a human had been taken aboard their ship… whether willingly or not they had no way to tell at this moment.

The executive officer looked to Captain Holloway. “Captain, what are your thoughts on the away team? Lieutenant Forgrave is a must, and sending Colonel Harris wouldn’t hurt. Given the nature of the anomaly, it might be good to send Lieutenant Simms to get a closer look. And if negotiations are a concern… Lieutenant Gadi would have expertise in that department.” He declined to mention that one of the two of them should also accompany the away team, knowing that Holloway would handle that decision. Still, part of him hoped to be sent on the mission. This was a new species, after all. Met under unfortunate circumstances, yes, but this was what he lived for. Cultural exchange was his specialty, after all.

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)

Molly shook her head. Her eyes darting from Renveer to Simms, and back to Renveer. “Unfortunately we can’t take everybody, Commander.” Holloway’s tone was serious, but there was a glint in her eye that let on a hint of amusement. “The scans detected life signs in the stasis field, so Dr. Janvier should come along. She can also be the scientific liaison between the away team and the Bridge.” There was no doubt in Molly’s mind that she would also go. If anything were to happen, she trusted herself to get out of danger without putting members of the crew unnecessarily at risk. However, she also knew she needed someone a bit more diplomatic than herself should the need arise, and as much as she wanted Renveer by her side, she would rather trust the Dresden’s Bridge to his capable hands than anyone else. With a soft sigh, Molly gave Renveer an apologetic glance as she continued. “You’ll have the Bridge. I’ll take Gadi.” Plus, if anything happens, she’s Intel. Molly silently added to herself.

With a nod, Holloway looked around. “Forgrave, Harris. You’re with me.”

As she walked with large strides away from the Bridge, she tapped her commbadge. =/\= Holloway to Gadi and Janvier. I need you both at the docking port to greet our guests. =/\=

Holloway, CO

OOC: I am not entirely sure which docking port would be the correct one, but I know that magically everyone will be at the correct one. :p – Joana

Hsull stepped from the turbolift onto the bridge, immediately noticing the activity. He had decided to briefly visit the bridge and familiarize himself with the Tactical layout, and once again appeared to have walked into a somewhat tense situation. He had caught the tail end of the Captain’s commands, “Ma’am, I assume we are preparing to visit our new friends over there. May I suggest diplomacy..... with caution. Please use care.” Hsull walked to the tactical station and leaned his cane against it, before observing that all systems were in a green status. “I believe I speak for all here when I say that we would like to have you back here in one piece.” Hsull sighed, “I can tell you from personal experience that the alternative hurts like hell.” He once again scanned the readouts on the tactical display and reached out a furred hand to make some minor adjustments.
