Forgrave was still catching his balance after exiting the lounge; both mentally and physically. Sucking air through his teeth; he scratched at the stubble on the back of his head as he considered the situation and their guest. “Uh… let me think…”

Hsull was unsure but briefly thought he caught the odor of fear from the Captain, he opened his mouth slightly and inhaled, holding his tongue against the back of his teeth, yes there it was, very brief but definitely fear. “I apologize again Captain, I certainly didn’t mean to startle anyone. I realize my appearance is upsetting to some at first, and to answer your query,.... so far my time on the Dresden has been most pleasant, thank you.” He noticed that the Captain seemed to relax and now was looking at the Security Officer expectantly. Hsull thought that perhaps he should just excuse himself and wander on but now his curiosity was piqued and he decided to see where this situation was going. Strange but he remembered an old terran adage; something about curiosity and cats.

CWO4 Hsull - TO

Issac was grateful for the time Hsull had unknowingly bought for him; though it wouldn’t be completely accurate to say his thoughts had completely settled. “I uh; I reckon Cet’s calmed down, so ta speak. Ain’t gonna say the uh, situation’s resolved per se, but I think he’s considering… other possibilities?” He fell silent for a moment, before realizing how his words could be interpreted. “By that I mean… well, I think he’s maybe considering himself more? Himself and his future; that is. I uh… well, I got the impression that he weren’t looking much past.... well, his original purpose of visiting; if you’ll permit my being circumspect, Hsull.” Issac nodded politely at the Warrant Officer; he meant no offence, but he wanted to respect Renveer’s privacy; and he wasn’t sure how much had been revealed. He was uncomfortable with the omission; but it wasn’t deception - though it was perhaps closer than he would have liked. But Renveer had asked for privacy, and he would have it; despite any minor discomfort on Forgrave’s part.

“Ah; but to get back to yer question… I can’t predict the future, but I don’t think I got any issues with Cet staying aboard for a time - assuming he agrees, of course.”

-Forgrave, CoS

Renveer’s eyebrows shot upward in surprise, wrinkling the skin of his forehead and the trill markings along his temples. “Really?” he blurted, then cleared his throat. “Well… wow, that’s good to hear. Thank you, Lieutenant, for whatever it was you said to him.” His gratitude was genuine, but Renveer felt a pang of jealousy as Forgrave was able to succeed where he was not.

The executive officer glanced between the three other senior officers huddled together in the hallway. “So we’re in agreement, then? We go back in and convince Cet to stay on the Dresden until he’s in better sorts?”

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)

Issac shrugged; he wasn’t quite sure that he deserved the praise from Renveer, but he wasn’t going to reject it outright. One way or another, Cet had seemingly changed his perspective after their talk. But then something that was said caught Forgrave’s ear, and he couldn’t help but wince. “Ah - A, uh, a point, iff’in y’all’ll pardon me… I’m sure it’s just semantics, but I’m not quite keen on convincing Cet to stay…” Issac quickly raised his hands to forstall comments, giving him time to explain. “I got nothing against having Cet stay aboard, like I already said. I’d like ta see him meet with Lt. Gadi on a regular basis as well; but I ain’t comfortable with goin’ in there and badgering the man until he stays. Not that I think that’s what ya intended, Sir! Just…”

Issac fell silent for a moment; pursing his lips and furrowing his eyebrows as he searched for the right words. “I’d like ta offer Cet the chance ta stay; and present our case if he’s willing ta listen.” Issac looked apologetically at Renveer; “Sorry if that’s what ya meant already; I uh, well, I ain’t keen on holding a man against his will if I got no reason. And I don’t like coersion neither - ‘s why I was concerned fer yer sake from the start. But if y’all’ll pardon me, that can go both ways if y’ain’t careful.” Issac’s face was a mix of worry and concern; but there was an undercurrent of steel buried there as well. He knew damn well that this was an extremely sensitive issue for the XO; and that he could easily be admonished for speaking out of turn. He thought that was unlikely to happen, but well.... Stress could make people do all sorts of uncharacteristic things. But he was unwilling to compromise on his principles; and he was determined to make his point clear.

-Forgrave, CoS

Renveer’s jawline hardened. He did not respond for several seconds, allowing himself time to interpret what Lieutenant Forgrave was saying. Renveer wanted to be insulted or to feel unfairly misrepresented by Forgrave’s warning, but the chief of security was right in many ways. Renveer was desperate for a solution and he had quickly become attached to the idea of keeping Cet aboard. If it didn’t work, they’d be back at square one and any progress Forgrave might have made with helping Cet be more amicable to negotiation could evaporate. He had not planned on coercing Cet, but what he intended and what ended up happening could be two very different things. He would need to keep Forgrave’s words in mind.

“Understood, Lieutenant,” Renveer stated flatly. He took a breath before continuing. “I’m not exactly an unbiased party in all this. That’s why you, Captain Holloway, and Chief Hsull should lead the conversation with Cet. I’m not asking you to… convince him to stay. But… I truly do believe it would be the best outcome for everyone involved. And I’d appreciate your help for advocating for the best solution.” His expression was pleading, despite his best efforts to remain neutral.

Issac nodded; relieved that he had not recieved the dressing-down that he’d feared. “Of course, Sir.” He was tempted to continue talking; but didn’t trust his tongue for the moment, and so held it.

“Are we ready?” Renveer moved to stand at the door of the guest lounge. Pending no objections from the other members of the Dresden’s crew, Renveer would move to enter the room where Dr. Cyon Cet was waiting.

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)

OOC: Apologies to all, I thought I had requested an LOA from from 4-16 thru 4-23. I will try to catch up tomorrow.

Hsull was considering his part in all this, interpersonal relations weren’t exactly his forte, especially with someone who sounded a bit <prickly>, Hsull was much better than he used to be, dealing with situations like this. Back when he would have just gone in and said “So Dr. Cet I hear you’re going to be staying with us a while.” all while leaning a hand on the man’s shoulder and idly squeezing in a seemingly friendly manner, but with claws slightly extended. Not too great for diplomacy but excellent for results. Apparently that wasn’t going to work here, so he would have to try somethign else. He looked at the others, “Ready when you are.”

Hsull TO

“After you, Sir.” Issac nodded at Renveer; ready to enter the room once more.

-Forgrave, CoS

OOC: For simplicity’s sake, I’ll just change the title of this thread rather than taking us back to the split one

Renveer stepped through the door to the guest lounge first, but he stood aside immediately within the threshold to allow Forgrave, Hsull, and Holloway to take the lead before he approached Cyon Cet himself.

The trill scientist sat at the same table he had been when he was left alone in the room, his hands folded in front of him and with a look of deep contemplation on his face. It took him a couple seconds to respond to the opening of the guest lounge’s door, but eventually he looked up and acknowledged the approaching Starfleet officers. “Hello again,” he said simply before he noticed the newcomer, Hsull. His eyebrows, the only source of hair on his otherwise bald head, rose. “Lieutenant Forgrave and I had a productive discussion while you were outside. But I’m also curious to hear what you discussed and what conclusion you’ve come to.”

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO and Dr. Cyon Cet, Trill Science Ministry)

Issac debated on what to say - thinking of different ways to feel Cet out, get an idea of his thoughts on the situation and how he’d like to proceed. But then, that had been a large part of his previous conversation already - how much would be gained by that? Maybe something… But Issac never much cared for dancing around a subject.
“Well, long story short, I believe we wanted to offer ya a chance ta stay aboard the Dresden for a while.” Issac’s tone was matter-of-fact; but his face held concern, mixed with watchful eyes, trying to gauge Cet’s reaction. “I know that’s a lot ta throw at ya at once; but… well, that’s tha gist of it.”

-Forgrave, CoS

Hsull was following the conversation closely, wondering what he could say that wouldn’t seem forced or awkward. He carefully extended his right hand, making sure the claws were fully retracted, “Dr. Cet, I’m Chief Warrrant Officer Hsull the Tactical Officer on board. If you’re going to grace us with your presence on board for a while I’d love to discuss the Trill symbiosis and the effects on the host. As you probably know we Caitians are prone to genetic heart failure and often are the recipients of a cloned heart. If you don’t mind my asking how would such a procedure affect a symbiont?” It actually was a subject Hsull was interested in and the Trill symbiosis was fascinating to him. He truly hoped the Dr. would accept the invitation to stay aboard.

Hsull - TO

Molly walked back inside the lounge with the group. However, she kept her silence. Holloway’s forte lied on observation rather than conversation, so she took the opportunity to back a little to the background and let the other officers speak. Not to mention, there was nothing she couldn’t add that hadn’t been already said.

She hoped Cet would not only take the invitation to remain on board, but would also accept their suggestion of letting Lieutenant Gadi help him with the present situation. The latter, however, hadn’t been communicated to their guest. Yet. Holloway looked expectantly at the Trill, waiting to see how he would receive the idea, but she let Renveer approach the subject when he felt ready, feeling that she might not the right person to disclose their plan.

Holloway, CO

Dr. Cet blinked in surprise at Forgrave’s suggestion and looked to Renveer questioningly. The executive officer inclined his head in agreement with the chief of security, prompting Cet to look back his way. Genuine surprise was mixed with an expression that conveyed deep thought occurring behind his bare temples.

Cet was taken off-guard again by Hsull’s question. He took a breath as if considering which officer to address first and eventually settled on Hsull. “Well yes, of course anything that effects the host would effect the symbiont. But as long as the outcome of the procedure is beneficial to the host, the symbiont should be able to adapt and....” he trailed off, his mind going to Forgrave’s proposal instead. “I… well, what would be the point of me staying aboard?” Cet asked with a hint of suspicion.

Renveer jumped to answer. “You’d be welcome to stay with us so you can experience life aboard a StarFleet vessel. Maybe you need a change of pace, a change of scenery. I’m certain Lieutenant Simms, our Chief Science Officer, would be glad for your help. Plus it seems like Chief Hsull has some questions of his own. And, in the meantime… well if you wanted, you could talk to our counselor, Lieutenant Gadi. I could even join you in those sessions if you think that’d be helpful, if you’d want to talk things over with me specifically in the presence of a mediator.”

Renveer was genuine but eager, watching Cet’s face with anticipation. He looked to the others for assistance with any other arguments they might have that would be convincing.
