(SNIP)

Hsull had been carefully listening to the conversation between Drillek and the CSO, he tapped his console and made a few calculations. “Excuse me, but we can narrow a tractor beam down to about ten microns without affecting the power, anything smaller and the power goes down exponentially. Your tunnel would work I think if we can focus your anti-chroniton beam tight enough. Whatever that object is, do you think that once we get it away from the ship and station we should try and destroy it ?”

Hsull - TO

Drillek shrugged. “Without knowing the nature of what it is, that could be more dangerous than it is now. All we know it has a stable localized field. If we can move it… or better still direst the ant-chronitons directly at it… we may be able to cancel it out… shut it down without actually turning it off or destroying it. We neutralize it, keep the anti-chronitons directed at it while the station personnel and Dresden crew move it off site to empty space… then we can figure out what to do with it.”

GMT

Priscilla nodded. “I agree. Attempting to destroy it could have repercussions no one can foresee. I would recommend tractor beaming it to one of the asteroids nearby and studying it from there. The field could remain without hindering the station or local traffic. And I don’t think the beam to the object needs to be that fine of a beam. We can play with a bit of a margin as most of the folks around it are ducked or turned away. So the tunnel for the tractor beam can remain within safe operating limits. I would hate to see the effects of us accidentally dropping it as we remove it from the vicinity of the station.”

She had already turned back to her console and begun the calculations to basically bore a hole through the sphere of influence, straight at the artifact. She had to be sure the direction wouldn’t go through other people. And she had to be sure there was enough room beyond the object as well so the artifact could be grasped without incident. It took about five minutes but she finally nodded to herself and bit her lip before turning to Drillek. “I’m sure this will work. Both quick sims showed a successful move of the object and the bubble around it. We can back it up to a safe distance without interfering with any more of the alien ship’s space, either.” She showed him the sim of the hole being bored through the field, the tractor beam following on its heels to grasp the ball of light, and then the ball being dragged by the Dresden a safe distance away from the ship and station. When the sim ended, she looked to see his reaction.

Hsull scanned his console again, “Just let me know when you need the tractor beam and we’ll be ready to do this. I can set it to adjust to whatever size the tunnel is automatically.” Hsull’s personal preference would be to tow the thing to one of the asteroids and set it down, then blast the whole mess into atoms, but he was willing to listen and work with the scientists as long as no danger was posed to the Dresden. He checked his console and made a few adjustments to the tractor beam controls. “Tractor beam is all calibrated and set, it will activate immediately after the tunnel reaches the object and hold the object at a fixed distance of 500km’s as we move away.”

Hsull - TO

Drillek followed the conversation and nodded in approval. When Hsull spoke he said “Excellent. I concur and believe this a the course of action to bring to Captain Holloway. How do you intend to get the tractor beam directly to the object through the dome of the station without interference from the structure?”

GMT

Hsull thought for a moment, his claw tips making a slight clicking noise as he moved his hand over the tactical console. “The tractor beam will be inside your tunnel of anti-chronitons for one thing and the focal point of the beam will be at the object itself, the tractor beam will actually work much like the transporter, pulling the object through the structure with no interference as we back away from the station and the ship.” Hsull ran a hand through his mane, “or if you prefer we could lock
a transporter to the object and once the anti-chronitons have done their thing beam it directly to one of asteroids.”

Hsull - TO

Renveer was listening and waiting patiently for further reports from the away team. He looked between Hsull, Simms, and Drillek as they reach a consensus and nodded at the mention of Captain Holloway. “Lieutenant Simms, please contact the captain and explain the plan. I want the away team and the aliens to know what we’re attempting in case anything goes wrong.” A lot of the science stuff was over Renveer’s head… but he had faith in his officers.

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer)

“Yes, Sir…” Priscilla tapped out the comm to the Captain. =^=Captain, Simms here. We have an idea but need to make sure everyone’s aware of it before we take action on your word. We are going to use a pinpointed anti-chroniton field to bore a hole towards the object we have found is at the center of this field. Using a modified tractor beam riding on its tail, we will drag the particle out of the station and relocate it to an asteroid at a safe distance from the station and the ship. If it goes according to plan, the field will move with the object and release the ship and the station with minimal issues.=^= She glanced to Drillek and the XO and hoped the Captain understood enough to let the move forward. And enough to pass on to the ship so they were aware as well.

Drillek nodded and began a sweep to find a suitable location.

GMT

It took only a moment for Holloway’s reply to be heard on the Bridge. =/\= Holloway to Simms. Lieutenant, you mentioned if all goes according to plan… the field should be moved and the station and the vessel should be released. What if it doesn’t go well? What happens then? Also, what are the chances of success on this? Is there any chance that when the object is moved, the field damages the station or the ship? Or it ends up “dragging” everything with it? Can you scan this object and know what it is before we do anything? I’m sure your department would like the chance to study it, no? =/\= There was a hint of annoyance in her tone, but whether or not it was directed at the Bridge officers or at something else happening at the docking port was hard to tell. If anyone had to guess, though, it was more likely the latter than the former.

Hsull standing at the Tactical console had overheard the exchange between the Captain and the CSO. He was a bit taken aback by the conversation, there were always “What ifs” to every situation, to be considered. You couldn’t always take the time to evaluate every angle of every conundrum, you sometimes just had to go by the seat of your pants and take a chance, hoping you made the right choice, especially when lives were in danger. If he had stopped to consider the possibilities when he had rammed the alien vessel attacking the transport/freighters he probably wouldn’t have done it and would have saved the Federation a few spare parts which he now was the proud possessor. He looked at the XO and raised his eyebrows in a questioning look, before giving the same look to Lt. Simms and Drillek.>>> Hsull reached up and stroked the ends of his mustache, remembering a saying he had heard long ago, “Stop waiting for the right time, the right moment, the right everything-there is no right time except the moment you decide to start.” (from the Diva’s Mantras)

Hsull - TO

There was a flash of concern on Renveer’s face at the message from the captain, but he turned away to hide it from the rest of the bridge crew. Renveer knew Molly’s inflections very well, and her current tone sounded… prickly. He took a calming breath before addressing the Chief Science Officer. “Lieutenant Simms, we’re not on a time-table, are we? Can we afford to study the object in more detail or do we need to extract it now to keep our people out of danger?”

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)

Priscilla glanced at Drillek before thinking of her answer. “I don’t think we have all the time in the universe, but a couple hours to find the safest way to go about this isn’t going to be too bad, I think. Do you, Drillek?” She looked to him once more. “As for studying it, I think once it’s moved, we should have all the time we wish for that. And at a safe distance with knowledge of what getting too close will get us.”

The Science Chief looked to the XO. “If you are all right with it, I will let the Captain know we are going to take a bit and make sure we are doing this with the maximum safety and science in mind. Are there any objections?” She looked around to see if anyone was going to protest strongly about the temporary delay before notifying the Captain.

Drillek shrugged and said “I think what we have is our best option as far as a plan goes. The field is fixed with the energy focus, so moving that focus would logically move the field. I’m not sure what a few hours more would tell us that we don’t know, but if that is what you feel is necessary…” and his voice trailed off.

GMT

Hsull reassessed their tactical situation, the Dresden was in no immediate danger, all systems were at optimum, the aliens appeared to be non-violent and in need of assistance, inter-species communications were minimal but improving, the danger seemed to be to the aliens and station crew who were trapped in the stasis field. To himself he muttered “Yep that about sums it up.” What bothered him most was waiting, waiting was something he had to work at. It wasn’t a trait inborn to the Caitian physiology. Caitians rarely swore, but right now he needed a good swear word, he remembered in rehab he was watching videos of old terran television shows, most of which made no sense to him, but there was one that came to mind where a supposed alien had landed on earth and was hiding out in the attic of a females apartment. The alien used a word at times, Hsull supposed it must be a good swear word,...... to the bridge in general he said,”Felderkarp! I hate this waiting.” He looked around to see the response to his outburst.

Hsull - TO

Renveer raised both eyebrows at Hsull, but he had to suppress a smile. Usually, he was the cautious sort… but in this case, Renveer agreed with the tactical officer. He gave Simms an apologetic look and said, “Let me talk with the captain,” before pressing his comm badge.

=/\= Renveer to Holloway. If you don’t mind my saying, Captain, there may be such a thing as too much caution in this case. There are Federation citizens sitting inside an unknown anomaly and we don’t know what kind of effect it’s having on them, medically. We might want to extract them from it as soon as possible to minimize any negative effects to their physiology, and it sounds like Lieutenant Simms and Doctor Drillek have at least determined a way to move the distortion safely. Other measures such as dispersing it or studying it further might be better saved for when our people are out of danger. =/\=

The executive officer held his breath in anticipation of Holloway’s response. He hoped their rapport would soften the impact, but he had a feeling that Molly would probably not like her authority being challenged in front of the crew. But this was his job, and a part of it that he had been nervous about following through on. So at least he did his part, and the chips would fall where they may.

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)

Drillek spoke up suddenly. “I’m detecting huge power surge from the vess-” and was cut off. There was a loud whine and then a sensation like a pressure wave swept out from the Lidrian vessel and swept over, around, and through the Dresden. Every crew member felt as if the air suddenly became very dense, then very light immediately afterwards. The bells were heard by everyone except Forgrave and Gadi, but there was no discomfort. A mild popping of the ears was the worst side effect, and moments later the bells were gone and hearing was normal.

GMT

Less than a second after the pulse, a call came to the bridge; and though the Comms officer might have caught that it was from the Security Chief, any audio was lost in the cacophony of bells…
-Forgrave, CoS

Hsull had checked the tactical readouts for the umpteenth time when he experienced a moment of intense vertigo which quickly passed but left him feeling slightly nauseous, this was followed by the sound of tinkling bells and then things were normal again. He checked the tactical readouts and all systems were optimal. He tapped his comm-badge, “Hsull to the Captain, not sure what just happened but there appears to be no damage and systems are normal.” Looking around he noticed everyone else on the bridge appeared to have been affected, but to a lesser degree. He looked at the XO and gave a spread hands gesture. His ears were still ringing and he shook his head to clear it. Caitian hearing was much more acute than most other species and the slight ringing, while bothersome, caused no pain and appeared to be fading. His immediate concern was how whatever had happened had penetrated the shields, he checked his readouts and it appeared that whatever had happened had matched the shields harmonics and passed right through them.

(OOC: Crossposting)

OOC: Apologies, having two main sims is a bit confusing at times.

=/\= Holloway here. We have reasons to believe this might have been the way they found to make us understand them. Similar to what happened to Lieutenant Forgrave, but on a shipwide scale. Standby as we try to figure out more. Holloway out. =/\= It was clear that Molly was as surprised as the Bridge, but hopefully more news would come shortly.

Holloway, CO

Renveer tensed visibly at the sudden sound, his attention snapping from the view screen to Simms to Hsull as he gave his report. Renveer held his breath in hopes that the situation hadn’t just gotten much more complicated… though given that he was not pleased with the sudden action from the alien vessel, he doubted the captain would be happy about it either. Still, this was a strange situation, and who knows what that effect was or why it was emitted.

“Lieutenant Simms, any effect from that pulse? What did it intend to do?”

(Lt. Cmdr. Renveer, XO)
