The file for Lieutenant David Michaels was an interesting read, as it appeared this officer had been reprimanded several times by different commanding officers. However, his personnel file was brief in nature and then ended with a notation that his file was deemed for a higher security clearance than what Molly possessed.

There were several mentions of David Michaels in the ships logs, but nothing in the search index would immediately stand out or prompt further review.

Molly sighed in frustration. Who was Jackson Grey and did it seem to be a dead end? And where was Cal? How did this all relate? If she didn’t have enough clearance to know who this guy was, how were they supposed to find him? And how were they supposed to find Cal?

Shaking her head, Holloway tried to keep her mind on task. Her eyes rereading through the search index trying to find out something that she might have missed.

As Holloway walked away, it was as if Amelia could feel all the eyes in the Bridge burning through her. Walking back to the center chair, Manning tapped her commbadge.

=/\= Manning to Main Engineering, we are in pursuit of a vessel that we believe sent the… beings… on board. Report on the status of Lieutenant Losc, and please, who am I talking to? =/\=

=^= Ensign Osten to Bridge. Thank you for the update. This is Ensign Osten, security division three officer, Commander Manning. Main engineering is secure, but Lieutenant Losc was struck by an energy blast released by an entity that appeared in engineering. He’s been beamed to sickbay for emergency medical intervention, but he was unresponsive to CPR. =^=

Cmdr. Manning, XO

Hannibal returned to the bridge. He saw Ensign Forgrave at tactical and motioned him to stay where he was.

“Commander, Damage control is underway. Where is the Colonel?” He said, looking around realizing that he wasn’t there.

-COS

Turning to face the Dresden’s Chief of Security, Manning once again was faced with answering the dreaded question.

Amelia shook her head. “He disappeared with the beings that came on board. Not sure how, why, or where. They seem to have taken him…” Manning let her sentence trail off, not wanting to say more than what had already been said.

The sensors beeped, as a scan of the area revealed the vortex had not entirely closed, and there appeared to be a weak transmission coming from inside it.

-GM SEMAJ

The security console gave a quiet ‘ping’ as it finished compiling the requests entered by the Ensign. Quickly skimming them, Issac’s fears were confirmed. Captain Harris no longer appeared to be on the Dresden. And what was that about psionic energies? I guess that may explain the unusual.... beings.

“Commander? Ah, the Computer did not return any results for Captain Harris’s Combadge or bio-signs aboard the Dresden. However, it did record high levels of psionic energy in a couple locations: the Bridge, Engineering, Counselor’s office, and briefly on uh, Deck 5, near the officer’s quarters. It’s still refining the results, but those are the… hotspots. I’ve forwarded the results to your console Ma’am.”

Manning nodded at Forgrave before taking a look at the data herself. Psionic energy… The name certainly rang a bell. Turning back to Forgrave she asked. “Keep working on it. Do we have any idea of where it may have originated from?”

Turning to the Security Chief, he quietly asked “Sir, do you think the Tactical console may have any luck scanning or tracking the other ship? Or might have recorded anything from it while it was in our vicinity? The Security console picked up these distinctive psionic energies…”

Ensign Issac Forgrave, Security

“I do, let me take a look, stay on top of the security situation.” Hannibal stated, moving to the aft tactical console. He started pulling files on Psionic energies, trying to compare these to any past events.

“Yes Sir.” Issac nodded, turning back to his console.

At the helm, NE Thunderhawk was quietly wishing he had followed his brother’s path into the SFMC, when the computer picked up a transmission from the vortex in front of them.

“Ma’am, we’re picking up a weak transmission. It seems to be coming from the vortex.”

“Patch it through, Ensign.” Came Amelia’s order.

Proud of himself for doing something important, Thunderhawk quickly tapped his console, patching the commlink through.

Cmdr. Manning & NE Thunderhawk

(Ensign Osten, Security Division Three Officer)

The transmission was very staticky but a few words jumped out… “Time agent… future… Grey… assistance… enemy.”

-GM SEMAJ

Time agent? Amelia’s brow furrowed. From the… future? It was a clear request for help, and the name… wasn’t that the same name that Holloway had mentioned a few moments before?

As the transmission came through, and the name Grey popped up, Molly turned around to face Manning. “One of the beings mentioned finding Jackson Grey.” Her voice carried through the Bridge slightly louder and a little more excitedly than she had intended, warranting her a few glances from some of the personnel manning the consoles around her. She felt the heat on her cheeks from embarrassment. Manning already knew the name because Holloway had already told her about it. Molly turned back to the terminal in front of her. Way to look professional, Holloway.

Manning glanced at the Dresden’s Intelligence Chief. Surprise clear in her face. “Anything you can tell me on Grey or on time agents, Captain?”

Time agent. The name, however, lingered in Molly’s mind. Something she had heard about a long time ago during her training at The Farm. It had been mentioned as more of a myth than anything else, but… could it be that it was true? That would certainly explain why her security clearance was not enough to see those files…

Tapping the console a few times, Molly searched the database for the term ‘time agent’, sure that once again, her clearance would not enable her to see any relevant information. But she didn’t have anything better to do, and who knew… maybe she would find something interesting.

Capt. Holloway, CIO

“Great” mumbled Hannibal, “let’s add time to these events too.”

-COS

A small mesage box appears on the security console ‘What the hell is going on? S’ sent from the transporter console in main Enginering.

Clinton “Stores” Reed, Supercargo

Issac considered the current situation; coming up at a loss to adequately describe it. He started typing into the console. =^=The beings have left the ship, as far as can be determined. Captain Harris appears to have been abducted by them; we are perusing them. We’ve gotten reports from engineering regarding Orin Losc; has the situation changed on your end?=^=

Ensign Issac Forgrave, Security

For a moment, Amelia’s mind went back to the events just before Harris had been taken. He had mentioned flying into the vortex, which to Amelia at the time, hadn’t make sense. She had had the feeling that Harris had been given some piece of information that she hadn’t, and that’s why she remembered it clearly. She remembered the woman being as confused as she was. Into the vortex?! Why would you want to… Oh, I see. There is someone else trying to shape these events. Very well. Those had been the woman’s words right before she had placed her hand on Harris’s shoulder and supposedly taken him with her. For all she knew, the woman had vaporized the Dresden’s Commanding officer, but Manning chose to believe that he had been taken instead. Was the someone the woman had mentioned this Jackson Grey person? Had she taken Harris to prevent them from going into the vortex? Leaving the Dresden with no Captain and high levels of psionic energy behind?

Psionic energy. The term kept lingering in Manning’s mind, as something she had heard a long time ago. In telepathic species the paracortex is far larger and more active. It is responsible for the creation of the psionic field that is required for telepathic senses to operate. Think of a psionic field as a less tangible version of nerve endings. Without nerve endings there would be nothing to transmit your sense of touch to your brain. Without a psionic field you can be surrounded by telepathic inputs but you have no way of registering and processing that information. The words made their way back into her mind, uttered in a familiar voice. A voice she hadn’t heard in five or six years. Avery Grant had been the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Vanguard when she had been stationed there, and a dear friend of hers. Avery had been the one discovering the existence of a paracortex within Amelia’s brain, and helping her understanding what it could possibly mean. She had left the ship shortly after, and her research into her possible telepathic ancestry came to a halt. Manning wondered for a moment how this information could help them? If the beings had left a trail of psionic energy behind, did this mean that they were telepathic beings? Or did it mean this was all in their heads? Or both?

Right now, there was no time to think about it. Clearing her throat, Manning addressed NE Thunderhawk. “Helm, lay in a course. Take us through the vortex.” With the little information they had available and a clear request for help, maybe if they assisted this Grey person, they would be able to help them find Harris.

“Aye, Ma’am.” Came Thunderhawk’s words. And with a tap of his console, he initiated the Dresden’s journey through the vortex.

Cmdr. Manning, XO & NE Thunderhawk, Helm

Ellie made her way onto the Bridge “Commander…what is going on?” She asked “Engineering is secured for the moment.” She added as she went to the engineering station.

CE

With her eyes locked on the viewscreen, Amelia didn’t even turn to look at the Chief Engineer as she entered the Bridge. “I am not yet sure, Lieutenant. The beings have taken the Captain, and we just received a distress call. We are finding out as we go along. I need you to make sure the Dresden stays in one piece.”

Ellie nodded “I’ll do my best ma’am.” She said as she took the Engineering station.

As the ship passed through the vortex, the viewscreen was momentarily filled with a swirling of bright light. Then, seconds later, they faded and were replaced with the normal view of empty space. There was a small shuttlecraft in view.

=/\= Well finally! It took you long enough! =/\= Came the voice they had heard on the earlier transmission.

-GM SEMAJ

Along with the damage control and repair schedual apering in a small window on the Enginering screen a written note =^= I have despatched damage control to the CCO’s office with instructions to make scans as well as make temporary repairs, as well as assigned repair teams to critical systems =^=

Clinton “Stores” Reed, Supercargo

=^=Understood.=^= Ellie returned the message =^=We have just gone through a vortex. We’re in another area of space facing off with a shuttle. Keep the engines at ready. Make sure that we still have power to weapons in case we need them. =^=

CE

=^=Affirmative, warp and impulse drives at the ready, power to offensive and defensive systems on standby.=^= Stores response was calm and almost artificial in his enunciation.

Clinton “Stores” Reed, Supercargo

Took them long enough!? Amelia wasn’t happy. In fact, she was far from it. Being the one monitoring the events outside of the Dresden earlier, and hopefully still maintaining the scans, Manning turned to Forgrave at the Security console. “Mr. Forgrave, I need scans of that shuttlecraft, whether it is friend or foe, and how many it is carrying. I have a vague suspicion that’s our new friend. Also, any signs of the alien ship we encountered earlier? Where exactly are we?”

Forgrave shared the Commander’s irritation at the choice of words - they came across as mocking to the ensign, but he worked to keep the irritation out of his voice and mind. “Yes Ma’am!” He replied immediately to the XO’s command; coordinating with the tactical console, he dialed in the passive sensors aboard the Dresden, keying them to the indicated targets.

He strongly suspected that he knew the answer to his next question, but he asked anyways. The academy instructor’s voice echoed in his head - Assumptions do no favors… Verify when possible. “Full power to active scanners, Ma’am?” Having put in the requests to the system just now, all that remained was to hit the key to engage the active scan. They had already been pinged by at least one ship(?), but the Dresden’s active scanners were powerful - anything in their range would be immediately notified to their presence.

Ensign Issac Forgrave, Security

Manning gave Forgrave a quick nod. “Use everything we’ve got, Ensign. I want to know exactly what’s out there. I don’t know where that vortex took us, but something tells me we’re here for a reason and I don’t want any surprises.”

Cmdr. Manning, XO

“Yes Ma’am. Full power to active sensors.” And with that, Forgrave keyed them to life. He wondered what else was out there; and waited on the results.

Ensign Issac Forgrave, Security

Ellie transferred additional power to the scanners and watched as power levels leveled off.

There was only one life sign aboard the shuttle. The craft appeared to be advanced in technology and consistent with Starfleet design. The sensors would confirm their position in space had not changed, but the current year was 2147.

Issac found it difficult to believe the results on his console - had they traveled through time? This was real life, not some cheap science fiction holo! But running the analysis again produced no changes in the results. And, there had been mention of Chronometric particles earlier.... Shaking his head, Issac tried to move past the apparent year change, and focus on the immediate situation. Tapping at his console, he passed the results on to Cmdr. Manning’s console; not wanting to interrupt her, he waited for a moment to catch her attention.

Turning to back to the helm, she continued. “Mr. Thunderhawk, pinpoint the origin of Mr. Grey’s transmission just now and open a channel to him.” Without a second to lose, the Ensign tapped a few buttons on his console, nodding back to Amelia.

Lieutenant Commander Renveer entered the bridge from the turbolift, glancing around the bridge to take stock of the atmosphere of the room and the emotions of the crew. Tense, for sure. He moved slowly and calmly to stand behind and off to the side of Commander Manning, clasping his hands behind his back as he observed the exchange.

Standing up and clearing her throat, Manning spoke. =/\= Mr. Grey, this is Commander Amelia Manning from the USS Dresden. If you don’t mind, I would like to get straight to the point as we don’t have much time. Who are you and why have you brought us here? =/\=

Cmdr. Manning, XO

=/\= I am a time agent with the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations. I detected that your ship was under attack by a most deadly enemy and I intervened and brought you here. As you may have noticed you have been brought to the past. I can assist you in returning to your own time, but if I may, you could assist me greatly in my current mission. Permission to come aboard and brief you on the current situation? =/\=

-GM SEMAJ

Most deadly enemy? Brought to the past? Having missed the data sent to her console, Amelia was caught off guard by the new information. For a moment, Manning wondered who was actually the deadly enemy here. If they were actually in the past and didn’t manage to go back, they might already be dead as far as their friends and family was concerned.

Speaking quickly, Ensign Forgrave caught the commander’s attention. “Ma’am, the results from the scanners… seem to confirm what they’re saying. Ship checks out as Starfleet design, and there’s only one life sign aboard that shuttle.” Here Issac paused, visibly struggling with the next detail. “And… the computer says we’re currently in the year 2147.”

Ensign Issac Forgrave, Security

2147… Amelia’s heart sunk. Almost 250 years before their time, meaning that if they didn’t find their way back, they would never see their loved ones again. She tried not to think about Pete and their life back in California. She had been the one ordering them through the vortex. If they didn’t make it, it would be her fault. Nodding at Forgrave in acknowledgement, Manning wondered if any major event had happened in 2147 and what the implications of their presence might be.

She wanted desperately to say yes. To believe that he could put them back where they came from. But she was a Starfleet officer, and trusting blindly was something they didn’t do. Amelia couldn’t put the Dresden’s crew even more at risk than they already were by subscribing to something she didn’t fully know the details to.

=/\= How do I know you are who you say you are and that you have our best interests in mind? You say you brought us here to spare us from the attack we suffered, presumably out of the goodness of your heart. If you were that worried about our safety, why didn’t you transport us somewhere else in space within our own timeline? Instead, you brought us to the past, where we cannot escape you. Where accepting to help you is the only way for us to see our loved ones again. That hardly seems what the good Samaritan you claim to be would do. So before I allow you on board this ship, tell me Mr. Grey, why should we trust you, what is it that you so desperately need our help with, and why exactly should we help you? =/\=

Cmdr. Manning, XO

The counselor’s brow furrowed. “Commander,” Renveer chimed in with an even, slightly lowered tone as to not interrupt the main conversation between Manning and Grey. “We’re currently situated in time only a couple years before the major events of the Temporal Cold War that involved a fledgling Starfleet combating the Xindi and Suliban, who were acting as proxies for factions from the centuries in the future. Perhaps Mr. Grey is involved in the early stages of that conflict.”

(Lt. Comm. Renveer, Counselor)

Ellie sighed inwardly ~Not my idea of fun…time travel.....~
CE

Renveer glanced around the bridge once more, noting that the colonel was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps that explains some of the tension, Renveer thought to himself as he directed his attention to the back of the Commander’s head, watching her body language for any cues that he should step in.

(Lt. Comm. Renveer, Counselor)

OOC: A friendly request. Please trim your posts. We are going to start losing text if we don’t.

IC: Ellie continued her scans of the engines and the surrounding space. She didn’t like time travel and she didn’t even believe that it was possible to travel through time.

Ellie looked around the Bridge after completing her scans and waiting to see what happened next.
