Cradling his arm at the angle it had ended up Cai entered sickbay and blinked as the mix of his hair and the blood from the cut along his forehead obscured his field of vision. He swore as he let go of his arm to wipe at it. Some ten minutes ago walking along one of the walkways above the cargo bay, his favourite haunt as it were, he had slipped and called most of the way down a ladder into a heap. His elbow had struck the rung on the way down and his head soon after. It was not at all possible to put himself back together this time and so as much as he hated it sickbay it was.

He leaned on the bulk head and glanced around. For a hospital ship this wasn’t very busy that much was a relief . “Hello…little help?”

Cai

A nurse rounded the corner and saw the pathetic form of Cai Taylor. “Oh. Oh god. Come over here.” She guided him towards Drake, who was leaning against an unoccupied biobed, reading. “Dr Marshall! This boy needs your help.” Drake looked up, exhasperated. When he saw the bleeding heap that Cai had made of himself, he said “Well. Finally. Some real work. Sit down.” He pointed at the bed as he tossed the PaDD he had been reading onto the next bed over. He went over and got an emergency medical kit. Truly the closest thing he had to a best friend. “What’d you do to yourself?” He asked as he pulled out the tricorder to check if the arm was broken.

Cai followed dutifully rolling his eyes. Cai looked at the bed and scowled causing him to hiss as it pulled the wound above his piercing. “Dude. How?” He asked indicating his arm with his chin and the fact that he couldn’t get onto the bed one handed.

The nurse embarrassingly assisted him into a seated position as the doctor sought a medkit. “I got into a fight with a Klingon, What the hell does it look like, I fell.”

“I put that together. Fell from what onto what and how far?”

Cai rolled his eyes again, “down a ladder, I dunno a deck or so onto my ass.”

The arm was indeed broken, both bones appeared to have fractured. The elbow joint itself however had displcated and the joint itself shattered as if it had suffered from the brunt of severe impact on something with most of the 16year olds weight. It would need to be manipulated surgically in order to put the pieces in the right position before it could then be fixed.

Drake smiled. “Finally. Something fun.” He looked up from the tricorder and turned to the nurse. Prep OR 1 for me. And then get this cheerful lad on the table.” He looked at Cai. “Most of your arm is broken. I imagine your keen little mind put that together. However, what you may not have known is that the joint is shattered. And I need to repair it surgically. Fortunately for you surgery is my specialty.”

-Dr Drake Marshall

The smile seemed to unsettle the moody teens demeanour. He turned paler than milk and his tone wavered slightly as he licked his dry lips before responding. “Yeah I kinda figured that when the joint wasn’t where it was supposed to be. Why does this make you happy is what confuses me. What gives.” He demanded. The biobed behind him registered his heart rate spike slightly and his blood pressure respond similarly.

He stared at Drake “Oh hell no, you aren’t doing anything of the sort. I’m 16 you can’t put me anywhere without my guardians permission. So bite me Doc. No surgery, no you want to do something about the cut on my head and I’ll be on my way.”

He scowled and gently tried to shake the electric blue hair out of his eyes. The scanner would tell Drake that despite the bravado he was in shock.
