Mariah wasn’t the sort to turn down a request for help, but she had to admit, she felt a bit guilty for staying behind and not reporting to her duty station. Then again, she had no idea what Mel was supposed to do with the twins under the circumstances, and the last thing Grayson wanted was to potentially jeopardize their safety. “Sure. I’ll be happy to. I just need to let the duty officer and sick bay know where I am.”

Mel’s dark eyes gazed intently at Mariah with immense gratitude. “Thank you,” she said softly. And just before she looked away, there was a rare look of excitement in the Betazoid’s eyes. It seemed the situation had sparked something in the women.

Briefly kissing her children’s heads, she whispered to them and then followed Anisha out.

The alert was cancelled a short while after Melaia left. About an hour later, the door to the quarters slipped open and Melaia stepped in vibrant with intense energy. Her face was etched with a sense of awe. “How are they?” she asked Mariah softly. She could sense that they were more at ease than earlier but still she wanted to know the details.

Mariah smiled as she turned to Mel, a baby in each arm. “They’re lovely. They’ve been fed and changed, and seem to be at ease. I’m no telepath or empath, of course but that’s my take, anyway.” She hugged each one, wanting to offer a bit of love in case Mel wanted them back. “I was worried they would be frightened. Is everything ok?”

Reez came to sit beside Mariah and the babies and held off grabbing Julia, whom was the closest, just content to see how they were wit others. “Yes, everything is fine. Our small intruders were reunited. Turns out the they are empathic and I have my suspicions that it might be more than that. Makes me want to go back down there and figure out the puzzle. Seems they were stowaways from the other ship that also had the cargo mix-up.”

“That’s interesting,” Mariah offered, frowning in thought. “Do you think that’s why the twins were so distressed?”

((Bump, I think. I don’t see another reply or another thread with this…I’ll understand if you’d prefer to skip this one))
