Brushing off her uniform, as if brushing away the stress that had previously littered her body, she straightened her composure. Glancing briefly in the mirror, she adjusted her bun, making sure to appear as pristine as possible, depsite often times finding herself in a less-than-formal aesthetic. Shrugging, satisfied with her appearance, the young woman tossed the brush to her kit haphazardly laying on the bed, and headed for the doors.

Slipping outside, she cautiously glanced both ways, before choosing to head towards the turbolift, knowing she had to get a checkin with the Captain complete, before she could pursue anything else. Clasping her hands behind her back, she navigated her way down the halls, seeming almost cheerful in her step. The turbolift ride, itself, was quite uneventful, though the brief moments of peace and quiet were welcomed by her, for she knew it wouldn’t last long.

Lingering out, she trickled down towards the Captain’s office, pressing her hand to the chime, to notify her of Sutalo’s presence.

Lt. Sutalo

Willow’s voice called from behind the door almost immediately, “come in!” Inside the red haired woman in captain’s pips adjusted the lid of the fish tank and glanced behind her at the door expectantly.

Stepping inside, Sutalo glanced over at the Captain, a somewhat crooked smile tugging at her lips. “Good day, Captain. Lt. Kusinut Sutalo, reporting for duty.” She gave a brief nod, keeping it simple.

Lt. Sutalo

“Ahh!” Willow said dusting her hands off. “Yes, our new Diplomatic Relations Officer. Please come in. Can I offer you a drink?” She moved away from the four fish swimming happily around the tank and replace the canister of food in a plant pot behind her desk.

“Water would be wonderful,” Kusinut admitted, stepping further into the room. Curiously, she scanned the room, her dark gaze landing on that fish tank. Unable to beat the smile that came back to her features, she returned her attention to the Captain.

Retrieving the water Willow handed it over and watched the smile, she glanced back at the fish tank. “Something funny?” She asked with a smile of her own.

“Not funny, just.. surprising.” Kusinut thanked her for the water, taking a sip. “I’m not used to see my commanding officer tend to companions– pets, whatever you wish to call them. It is a nice change,” She hummed, briefly thinking about Captain Zoarhi, she had never seemed the animal type, then again, she hadn’t the chance to learn much about her.

Willow smiled and looked at them. “They were a gift from an old friend,” she said. “I promised I’d always keep them in my office on the ogawa. Anyway we are delighted to have you join us. Please, tell me a little about yourself. I understand you recently had a career change that has brought you to this role.”

“How sweet,” Most people meant that demeaningly, but it one actually listened to her voice, they would hear nothing by a genuine thought. “I’m delighted to be here. I’ve heard nothing but good about the Ogawa, since I was assigned.” She smiled, “Yes. I was previously of the security department, my last assignment aboard the USS Memorial. Although, after looking more into the forensics side of things, and having the chance to appear in court to defend an officer.. I guess I just figured I like being able to protect people in a legal stance rather than a physical, and diplomatic relations seemed a great way to incorporate that and a wide set of other topics– if that makes any sense.” She awkwardly chuckled, knowing her own trouble with explaining herself.

Willow listened carefully and nodded as she explained. “I completely understand. As a medical ship I’m not sure how often we will need legal representation but we are delighted to have you on board. We have a number of officers from a variety of species,” she paused and thought of the dentist. “Some more…interesting than I’d like if truth be told.” She grinned and reached for a PaDD which she held out.

“Thankfully, medicine has no species.” Kusinut grinned at the thought of the sheer diversity of the Ogawa and waut people she might chance cross the path of. Leaning forwards, the thanked the Captain, taking the PaDD.

“I took the liberty of getting a rundown on current crew and mission briefing and have assigned you quarters on deck 3 and if you wish will have someone conduct you on a tour when we finish our meeting.”

Willow Taylor

“Thank you, Captain.” While her words were a simple vessel of acknowledgement to her efforts, Kusinut was actually relatively excited to read over the information the PaDD held. “That would be incredible, if someone’s up for it.”

At that moment, as if on cue, the door chime sounded.

-Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO

Willow grinned. “Perfect timing.” She said aloud. “Come in!” As the door swished open she smiled at her XO. “Lieutenant Sutalo, please meet Lieutenant Commander Amari Brooks our executive officer and tour guide extraordinarie. “

She looked at Amari, “Lieutenant Sutalo is our new diplomatic relations officer. And she’s keen to have a wander around the ship if you’d be so kind as to conduct her.”

The XO was a beautiful and kind looking woman. Slender and fit, she strode in with an air of dignity but not of ego. Her hair was pulled back tight, but sat in a almost perfectly round pouf on top of her head, a new style she had been trying. Her daughter Sadee had said it looked like a chocolate cotton ball. She smiled, her pearly teeth a stark contrast to her dark skin. She stepped fully inside the room. “Of course, Captain,” she turned and extended her hand. “Hello Lieutenant. Welcome aboard. I hope your trip here was pleasant.”

-Lt. Cmdr. Brooks, XO

Kusinut rose to her feet, finding it incredibly rude to shake someone’s hand while remaining seated. Taking her hand, she shook it firmly, as to be expected from someone who had spent half their career in Starfleet Security. Offering a small smile to the Executive Officer, she nodded. “It was all right, thank you.” Kuisnut hummed, “A pleasure to meet you, Commander. Thank you, in advance, for showing me around.”

Willow smiled. “Well then don’t let me keep you both. Please enjoy your tour Lieutenant and welcome to the ogawa once again, I’ll be sure to check in it’s you and see you are settling in.” She glanced at her computer screen then back at them politely.

“I look forwards to it, Captain.” Kusinut promptly nodded, turning her attention to Brooks. “Whenever you’re ready, ma’am.”
