Drake straightened up and cracked his neck. He turned to Reez. “Commander Reez. I say Commander because it has been some time since you practised real medicine. In the instance of a third degree burn, left treated by bandaging for some extended period is going to require more extensive treatment than a fresh wound. Any first year med student should know that you have to treat patients on a case-by-case, not in blanket terms. Didn’t they teach you that? Or was it so long ago you’ve forgotten? If I have to retreat to the “ancient” technique of grafting so that I can work closely and make sure everything is perfect, I will.” He stepped up to Reez. “I am an emergency specialist surgeon. I know what I am doing.”

-Dr Drake Marshall

OOC: I just wanted to make sure this is just Jonathan, but the I guess unless Lindsay wants to insist, the Dermal Re-generator is technically the best method. Star Trek has shown it to repair things long after the wound had festered, it doesn’t really have a time delay when it comes to situations like this. I mean re-generators are used for cosmetic surgery, grafts, scar repair, third degree burn repair etc.

“Lieutenant, I would suggest you cool your jets before you go half cocked. Our patient has a wound, one on the outside. I may not be a surgeon but I am pretty sure you don’t need to cut her open to find the root of her problem. This isn’t a time for heroics or exploratory medicine. You use what is at hand and what works, not drastic measures that a patient can have longer lasting effects if things go wrong. Next time you want to lip off remember who is your superior, or I can have you marched to the Captain on disciplinary measures if you want to keep exasperating the issue.” Jonathan said, his voice cool and calm as he looked at the lieutenant.

Jon knew people loved to forget he was a fully licenced doctor who had training in neuroscience as well as psychiatric medicine. He had seen his fair share of wounds in war zones when he fought for Betazed’s freedom as a combat medic and new enough to know when you should try and use the tools that gave the patient the best chance. There was no reason to not use the tools they brought to help the best they could.

“How about we start fully examining the patient, we have the equipment they don’tr hear, we can better diagnose and recognize her issues and formulate a method that matches the tools we brought with us.” Jonathan said, as they had already suggested they look at her first, which seemed the best option before trying any methods on the patient.

Looking at the woman and then to Alison he walked over. “Let’s begin the examination, I do apologize for that scene Miss. I didn’t mean to storm in and cause a medical debate when we have far more pressing things to do.”

“I got this,” Ally said walking over to the women. “May I,” she said reaching out for the woman’s arm. “I have some medicine that will take away the pain. If you will let me,” she said waiting for the woman to react.

Jonathan nodded as she went over to the woman, he felt like a fool starting the fight. Skin grafts may have been unneeded but he shouldn’t have let Drake act like a pompous ass and push the issue like he had, getting sucked into it while he tried to take command of the scene.

OOC: Coughs Dermaline gel. More to the story than you’ve given me a chance to reveal. ;)

Rinne just stood there and stared at the visiting staff with her mouth agape. Not even allowed to get a word in edgewise, they didn’t even have a patient history before they started fighting over the treatment that she had been working on for the last few days. They had no idea how much work it had taken to get Ketra to actually allow anyone to inspect the wound and that by the time the woman had arrived at Carraya the deep damage had already been done.

“I am deeply sorry I… “ he wasn’t sure what else to say, his behavior was not something a command office should have displayed. Jonathan kept up with medical knowledge just as much as the next doctor going over new procurdres and such. Allowing someone to try and bait him into a fight over something that shouldn’t have mattered instead of leading the time didn’t make him feel good in that moment.

Ketra looked at Rinne and Anni composed herself and nodded to the Romulan. “Dr. Scott will look after you, Ketra,” she said softly. “I’ll give her the additional background info she needs, okay?” The Romulan nodded, so far having not said a word in the presence of others.

Turning to Scott, Anni composed herself, keeping her tone utterly neutral. “Ketra came to us with a severely infected third-degree burn that had tiny pieces of shrapnel in it. The wound had not received any real treatment since she was injured and parts had closed over the shrapnel. I had to excise the shrapnel and then I used a dermal regenerator in precise passes to heal specific areas of scarring. Dermaline gel is being used after each pass, then bandaged, because Ketra’s infection has not fully cleared up. It would be pointless to seal in an infection that would just spread. Once the infection was gone, I was going to finish regeneration.

Dr. Rinne moved away from Ketra and glanced at the others. “If you all don’t have any further critiques of my medical skills, I’m going to go help your Head Nurse with the inventory,” she said tersely and moved to the back of the clinic.

“Thank you Doctor, I’m sorry for the disruption and won’t let that happen again. We are here just to help.” Jonathan said as he gave a curt nod. The woman had done nothing wrong after all.

OOC: Ignore the graft part. It doesn’t fit. Carry on with the rest of the info provided. ~Linds

Anni turned as she passed by Jonathan and looked at him. “That was my presumption.” Exhaling forcibly to release the tension, Rinne dropped her voice to speak privately with Reez. “Treat Ketra as you would any patient, but don’t be shocked if she says nothing. She’s been mute in our presence this whole time. The only reason we know her name is because others in the camp told us. Yirn has been trying to work with her, but wth no luck. But she let me look over her injury and hasn’t been jittery about others treating her. You’re a lot of new faces. Just…” Her blue shone with deep concern and care. “Proceed gently.”

“Doctor Scott you can continue the treatment, use the regenerator when done to fix the scar tissue.” Looking at the patient Jonathan smiled softly.

“As for you, you are in good hands she will take care of you perfectly, good as new.” He said wanting to keep the patient calm. Pulling up a chair he sat next to her letting Alison continue her treatment as he put his tricorder away.

Ketra looked at Ally intently, her brown eyes seeming to assess and even judge as she gazed. After a moment and another glance at the disappearing form of Dr. Rinne, the Romulan woman seemed to relent and offered Scott her arm.

“I’m Jonathan by the way, and when not making an utter fool of myself I do try to help and listen to people I promise. If you want I can go and stack boxes but I am here if you want to talk, about anything, I am here. If not I can sit quietly and let Doctor Scott here judge me silently as she works on you.” Reez said with a bright smile. Patients came first, all three of them had to know this.

Ketra’s brows lifted ever so slightly, but she didn’t reply to Reez’ banter.

Under the fresh bandage, the burn wound was indeed healing nicely under the circumstances. With the debris gone, the infection had been easily treatable and a quick scan would show that the antibiotics has nearly done their job. With some more monitoring and a final does of antibiotics, the final healing could be done. At least the physical kind.

While Allison examined her though, Ketra seemed to find a spot on a nearby wall and simply stared.

“I call that interior decorating,” Ally said slowly pulling the bandage off so that she could look at the wound. It was a bright pink showing tender skin but did not have any indications of red or white indicating possible infection. “At home, I have a set of curtains,” Ally spoke softly as she worked on the woman’s arm. “There are times I sit for hours just thinking as I stare off. My boyfriend calls it interior decorating or going down the rabbit hole,” she let out a laugh. “Sometimes it’s good to be in your head with your thoughts. You know trying to get them in order before you can then figure them out. Do you have any pain with this,” Ally said as she pulled out her tricorder to make sure there was not bacterial infections her visual inspection couldn’t see.
