Mark and the rest of the engineers rounded the corner to find the makeshift generator setup. “Right. Easter. Check all the connections between the generator and the clinic. Make sure everything is in the right place and compatible with both sides. I’ll look at the generator itself.” He knelt down to examine the generator. He pulled out his tricorder and started scanning. As much as he trusted the scans, he gave the generator a good look manually as well.

“Aye, Sir,” Mike said and nodded, then went to the first connecting point. Firstly, he checked it visually, looking for anything that would suggest it had an issue. Then, he pulled out his engineering tricorder and scanned the conduit, waiting for the reading to come back on anything his visual inspection missed. He’d expect his visual check would pick up if any of the conduits were misaligned or similar, while the scans with his tricorder would identify if there were any microfractures or power flow issues within the conduit that his visual check wouldn’t pick up. Once checking this connecting point, and getting the all clear, he’d move onto the next one and continue on until he reached the clinic, if he picked up any issues on the way, he would work on getting the issue sorted before moving on to the net part of the conduit that would be powering the clinic. He knew that this could be a long task if the scans came back with things being less than optimal, but he was determined to make sure it was all correct so he didn’t have to return to this task once again.

-Mike Easter, Eng

Mike walked up and began a scan of his own, checking a few overloaded sections. “We don’t have everything necessary to replace these, but I can possibly cobble together a temporary replacement with parts from a PADD and some stuff lying around here.” He said to Mark, nodding at the Generator.

Michael “Mike” Thompson

The generator was a Klingon one, so initially not compatible with the Federation systems, but it looked like someone had cobbled together a bypass to get it to work. Commander Bosede said it had initially worked by there were issues. It was clear that good sections of the generator had been fried via an overload. It was technically repairable, but whether they should bother was the question.

OOC: Fixed my split. Keeping this reply simple, since my reply might change how you approach this. Or not. hard to say. lol

~Mischief Maker

The Chief stood up and started to circle the broken generator. “Ok. So, the generator fried itself. Unless we can come up with a better system than they did, we’re screwed. Even if we fix it, it’s just a matter of time. Looks like they did a bypass though. Maybe an adapter.” Mark thought for a moment. “Maybe if we just run the cables straight from the generator into a small adapter, adjust the output levels on the generator itself, it might work. The adapter we can build ourselves, it’s a small piece. More a modification on a standard power cable output.” He stood and pondered another moment. “Anyone with any other ideas speak now or forever hold your piece.”

Michael pondered his chief’s words, and an idea came to mind. “What about a second generator? We could couple it up to the existing generator, and establish another link through the bypass and then the adapter and onto the medical modules. We could also set up a mini console here using a cobbled together pair of older padds and that replicator platform I replaced last week on the ship.”

Michael paused for a moment, and then continued, he seemed to be getting more excited and more animated as he espoused his ill thought out and possibly dangerous idea. “That way, it would be easier for any future maintenance to be carried out on site without the need of an engineering team from a starship, the two generators would ensure enough power got through to the medical modules that are being set up and deliver them with twice the power, twice as quickly. We’d also then also be able to double the time between maintenance. Now, and perhaps this is a bit over the top, but we could add in a back up source of power to the generators by attaching solar panels, hydro power and windmills to it so that the system could continue to power even if the traditional powers to the generators are interrupted. And think of the power that would generate.”

Michael paused again, and then added, “well, that’s my suggestion, Sir. Will I get started on the 2nd generator?” He looked expectantly at Mark as he finished.

OOC: Y’all have a very funny post shared by Geoff Joosten through after dark about why human engineers are the most dangerous thing possible in Star Trek to thank for that post.

“A second generator, an interface, solar panels, windmills, and hydroelectric turbines. Not to mention maintenance on the bypass and original generator and building an adapter. If we had a week, I’d say we might try some of that. But we need a quick, durable fix so we can get going on getting the Owie equipment in position, and rebuild as much as we can. I like the interface idea. The problem is output, so we put in a regulating adapter and a control interface, that could work. Easter, build me a control interface for this thing. You said all you need is PaDDs. Well that’s what you’ve got. I’ll fix up the generator itself. Thompson, I want an adapter. Something that will let us plug the generator directly into the clinic and act as a surge protector. Let’s roll.” With that Mark started working on the broken down Klingon generator. “If we have time, Easter, we’ll cook up some backup measures.”

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

OOC: We’ve done all we can with the generator. It should get them through until the new clinic is up.

IC: Mark stood up and brushed off his hands. “Alright everyone, I think we’ve done what we can here. Let’s set in on building the temporary clinic. =/\=CE to Ogawa. Let’s get the temporary clinic modules down here.=/\=

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

“Ok ladies and gents. I’ve been in contact with the Ogawa. We’re going to set up a shield generator to protect us from ambient weather conditions while we set up the temporary clinic. The same problem has probably occurred to you that occurred to me about blocking transports. Here’s the plan as it stands now. We’re going to take a few large equipment containers and combine them into a transport shelter just outside the shield. Thompson. You’re in charge. Get going. Everyone else, we already have plenty to do getting this clinic up.”
