“That depends,” Echego was used to making lesson plans and ensuring every day had a set schedule for when things were done and how they were done. However, it did not seem that was going to work. “What do you want to work on during group days?” She inquired, almost finding it difficult to ask the question, knowing some of the answers she could receive. “Nothing is not an option.”

Ms. Em’ujo
Teacher

Amari had spent a lot of time in classrooms on the starbase but this was the first teacher that had asked her what she wanted to study. She removed one of the earbuds. “Anything?” she asked… since nothing was not an option, “as long as it doesn’t involve hitting each other with painsticks.” She laughed as she placed the earbud in her ear. “Or I know, we could form a band!” she laughed a little at her own joke and turned the volume up on her mini padd.

-Sadee

Insufferable. Echego thought to herself, narrowing her eyes to small slits. “Yes, what a dashing plan, Miss Brooks. Maybe if you had some actual drive for the idea, it would be achievable.” Klingons were not known for their music, but that did not make them immune to its splendor.

Adrian Sorel looked back and forth from Sadee to Em’ujo almost confused as to why the other girl was being so flippant. He frowned though as he considered the teacher’s question.”Maybe we could learn about the places the ship goes too? I have always felt not really part of the ship or crew. Almost like I don’t belong here but maybe that would help.” He offered hesitantly.

Adrian Sorel

“Ah! A splendiferous idea, Mister Sorel!” Em’ujo grinned, wildly. “A crew is your family, whether you are civilian or officer. And you cannot truly be of the same heart as your family, without understanding them.” She agreed, “Consider it a topic; perhaps twice a week we shall delve into the escapades of this vessel?”

Ms. Em’ujo
Teacher

“Though I like the band idea too, Cai and I have talked about jamming together. Do you play anything or sing , Sadee?” Adrian Sorel asked in a low voice of Sadee.

Adrian Sorel

A crooked eyebrow indicated Em’ujo’s contemplation on the matter. She was there to enrich the children’s Education, and she wasn’t positive that a band would be any less a distraction as a school matter as it would be outside of the classroom. Although, Echego understood humanity’s emphasis on conditioning their pupils to the wonders of music. Considering the students were at least partially human in their genes, Echego recognized the possible opportunities of a band. “Very well.”

And as if summoned by the other boys mentioning of him the door opened and escorted by a security NE Cai walked back in, his hands deep in his pockets and his eyebrows pulled down under his purple hooded head.

“Apologies for the disruption Ms. Em’ujo but I have orders to ensure this one attends the class time he has scheduled.” To cai he said. “Your sister will hear about this if it happens again.”

Em’ujo only wove a hand, sending an apathetic glance to Cai. She knew, without looking into it, this kid was going to be a handful.

Cai for his part shrugged his arm out of the man’s grasp and slouched to his desk and dropped into his seat pulling his earbuds back into his ears. He brought out the PaDD it’s the essay he had been working in for his most recent client and began finishing the conclusion.

Cai

Adrian Sorel looked over at Cai,”Hey, I was just telling Sadee about us jamming together.” He said hoping it might improve his friend’s mood.

Adrian Sorel

Nodding, she glanced at the gathered trio. “What genre do you and Mister Taylor practice?” She questioned, wondering what kind of instruments would be causing earbleeds in her future.

Ms. Em’ujo
Teacher

Adrian Sorel glanced at Cai before he answered Em’ujo,” I am not sure what it would actually be called. But I have been modeling after the Earth historical ‘rock’ bands. I play the electrical guitar and keyboard.”

Adrian Sorel

“You are studying the science behind sound, correct?” Em’ujo recalled, glancing over at the boy. An idea had popped into her head.

“Yes.” Adrian Sorel said shortly in response.

“Perhaps we can combine the science of sound with the band. Look deeper into the music and how it is made. It might give you a deeper appreciation for the music you and Mister Taylor produce.” She paused, “If you want to, that is, Mister Sorel.”

Cai for his part ignored them all for a few minutes until he finished what he was doing then sent the document on its way to the client, it was then he pulled his ear buds out and glanced around as if confused by the conversation. “Sorry what?” He asked.

Cai

“Music, Mister Taylor. What genre do you play?” She inquired, her voice bland and without any inflection.

Em’ujo
Teacher

Cai gave Adrian a look as if blaming him for the teachers knowledge. “Whatever I feel like I guess.” He shrugged nonchalantly and tossed his hair out of his eyes with a shake of his head. His hood still up. “Bass, or Sax gives you some option,” he frowned one pierced eyebrow at her. “Why?”

Cai

“If a band is going to be an option, we have to find a way to combine each of your areas of expertise in the musical realm.” She explained.

Sadee who had remained silent through the preceding conversation was kicking herself for even bringing up the subject. Something deep inside wanted her to stand up and demonstrate the feelings she had been holding on to for so long. To release them she knew would be wonderful, but yet she was nervous. terrified. But her legs, seeming to work of their own volition, made her rise out of her seat. Despite her internal protest her mouth opened and she began to sing. Her voice, impossibly deep, rich and soulful, filled the classroom, as though all the air had been sucked out of it.

Cai watched her move interestedly and waited to see what she would do.

There’s a saying old, says that love is blind
Still we’re often told, “seek and ye shall find”
So I’m going to seek a certain lad I’ve had in mind

Looking everywhere, haven’t found him yet
He’s the big affair I cannot forget
Only man I ever think of with regret
I’d like to add his initial to my monogram
Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost lamb?

His mouth fell open as she began to sing. Her voice was beautiful…the passion and the longing in her tone. Deep down it resonated with him somewhere. As she continued he considered her and then the room in general. How would she react when she finished? In a room full of perfect strangers…his eyes fell on the little used saxophone sitting in the corner of the room. It had been months since he had last touched it…

There’s a somebody I’m longin’ to see
I hope that he, turns out to be
Someone who’ll watch over me
I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the wood
I know I could, always be good
To one who’ll watch over me

Standing, almost on auto…he pushed back his hood and crossed the room. Picking it up he fingered the instrument, muscle memory relaxing quickly into a comforting feeling. He knew the song…and for some reason. He didnt know why, but for some reason he didnt want her to open her eyes and realise she had put herself out for their scrutiny. He didnt want her to be as alone as her song suggested. Even if inside he felt the same.

Here she smiled a bit and closed her eyes, letting the melody completely over take her. She appeared as though she were alone with no one watching, but desperately, desperately longing.

He licking his lips he pressed the instrument to his lips and gave a count before he picked up the song with her next verse…

Although he may not be the man some
Girls think of as handsome
To my heart he carries the key

Won’t you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me

Won’t you tell him please to put on some speed
Follow my lead, oh, how I need
Someone to watch over me

The final line slow and dramatic, bluesy, and soulful, she belted as she had never belted before.

Someone to watch over me.

The final note she hung on to, and let it float in the air, she remained enraptured in the moment, the emotion, and only after a few moments did she open her eyes.

-Sadee

He pulled the mouthpiece away and licked his now numb bottom lip suddenly feeling self concious. A blush spread across his pale features.

Cai

Adrian Sorel stood transfixed, mouth open.”Wow.” He said not sure how to articulate what he felt.”That was real music.” He finally said thinking it was not enough to say what her singing had done to him either. If he had had his bass on him, he could have accompanied her too as Cai had done. Softly though, not his usual frantic playing.

Adrian Sorel

Echego was not the kind of woman who was impressed easily, especially not when it came to tranquil arts such as music. Although, she could not deny the natural chemistry between Cai and Sadee, at least in their brief moment of spontaneous song. “Good to see you two can work together,” Em’ujo remarked, perhaps the closest they would get to a compliment from the ill-tempered teacher. “Keep that up, and you might be able to become a decent band.”

Em’ujo
A Tough Cookie

Suddenly realizing the eyes that were on her, Sadee grew self conscious and sat down. A small smile played at her lips. “That’s the first time I sang in front of anybody.” She couldn’t believe herself, who was she? But for the first time in a long time, she felt… happy.

-Sadee Brooks

Adrian Sorel grinned at Sadee with one of his rare true smiles. “That was nice. Perhaps the three of us can get a real band going with you singing.” He said.

Adrian Sorel

Cai for his part sat down and looked at the floor, a frown across his forehead. He chewed his lip ring and considered.

Cai
