Michael pondered his chief’s words, and an idea came to mind. “What about a second generator? We could couple it up to the existing generator, and establish another link through the bypass and then the adapter and onto the medical modules. We could also set up a mini console here using a cobbled together pair of older padds and that replicator platform I replaced last week on the ship.”

Michael paused for a moment, and then continued, he seemed to be getting more excited and more animated as he espoused his ill thought out and possibly dangerous idea. “That way, it would be easier for any future maintenance to be carried out on site without the need of an engineering team from a starship, the two generators would ensure enough power got through to the medical modules that are being set up and deliver them with twice the power, twice as quickly. We’d also then also be able to double the time between maintenance. Now, and perhaps this is a bit over the top, but we could add in a back up source of power to the generators by attaching solar panels, hydro power and windmills to it so that the system could continue to power even if the traditional powers to the generators are interrupted. And think of the power that would generate.”

Michael paused again, and then added, “well, that’s my suggestion, Sir. Will I get started on the 2nd generator?” He looked expectantly at Mark as he finished.

  • Michael Easter, ENG

OOC: Y’all have a very funny post shared by Geoff Joosten through after dark about why human engineers are the most dangerous thing possible in Star Trek to thank for that post.

“A second generator, an interface, solar panels, windmills, and hydroelectric turbines. Not to mention maintenance on the bypass and original generator and building an adapter. If we had a week, I’d say we might try some of that. But we need a quick, durable fix so we can get going on getting the Owie equipment in position, and rebuild as much as we can. I like the interface idea. The problem is output, so we put in a regulating adapter and a control interface, that could work. Easter, build me a control interface for this thing. You said all you need is PaDDs. Well that’s what you’ve got. I’ll fix up the generator itself. Thompson, I want an adapter. Something that will let us plug the generator directly into the clinic and act as a surge protector. Let’s roll.” With that Mark started working on the broken down Klingon generator. “If we have time, Easter, we’ll cook up some backup measures.”

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

OOC: We’ve done all we can with the generator. It should get them through until the new clinic is up.

IC: Mark stood up and brushed off his hands. “Alright everyone, I think we’ve done what we can here. Let’s set in on building the temporary clinic. =/\=CE to Ogawa. Let’s get the temporary clinic modules down here.=/\=

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

“Ok ladies and gents. I’ve been in contact with the Ogawa. We’re going to set up a shield generator to protect us from ambient weather conditions while we set up the temporary clinic. The same problem has probably occurred to you that occurred to me about blocking transports. Here’s the plan as it stands now. We’re going to take a few large equipment containers and combine them into a transport shelter just outside the shield. Thompson. You’re in charge. Get going. Everyone else, we already have plenty to do getting this clinic up.”

Very soon, the parts of the clinic module were beamed down and ready to be constructed. It would take about an hour to get the whole thing up, provided they could find a few extra sets of hands to help with the construction since there were only a few engineers on the crew. But likely some of the camp residents could help, and maybe even the Klingons and/or Romulans from up on the hill too.

This was the part of command Mark liked less. Administration. He went to the civilian camp looking for volunteers. “Any and all civilian aid is much appreciated. Anyone with engineering training coordinate with Lt Easter for assignment, you’ll be leading civilian teams.” Hopefully the people they had plus whatever volunteers they gathered would get a sufficient emergency clinic up quickly.

-Lt(j.g.) Mark Pierce, CE

At least one of the three volunteers had at least minor engineering expertise, though the man who identified himself as Tevak noted his expertise was limited to small freighter systems. Nonetheless, he was confident he could help.

“Which f you is Lieutenant Easter?” Tevak asked.
