“Pizza’s fine, and I’ll have the replicator’s shoddy excuse for lager,” Brad replied. “Just curious, what was the plan before Captain Clumsy reared her head?” he asked teasingly.

Willow stuck her tounge out at him, “That’s insubordination you know, captain clumsy thanks for that,” She procured his drink and a bottle of beer of her own and indicated the sofa while the replicator tried to make sense of the change of meal plan.

Brad took a seat on one end of the sofa, barely restraining himself from kicking his feet up onto the coffee table while he took his first sip of the (definitely synthehol) drink.

“I thought a nice civilised at the table meal with something light to start and then spaghetti and bread. Possibly wine.” She explained and flopped onto the sofa.

“That sounds both delightful and good for you,” Brad said. “Ah well, maybe next time you won’t get flustered trying to do too many things at once,” he said. “Honestly, how has being a Captain not drilled that habit out of you yet?”

Willow pulled a face at him. “I’d have thought being an XO would have done it first but apparently I’m just not that sort of Commanding Officer. To be honest I think I was better before I met Doug. You know how anal he is about organisation etc.” She stood and moved to get the now ready pizza speaking as she went. “I kinda became reliant on him doing stuff and now…” she shrugged and placing the huge amount of cheese and toppings down grabbed a slice.

“Now, you have an entire ship of beings at your beck and call,” Brad pointed out, taking a slice for himself and biting off about a third of it. “A good portion of them young , impressionable, and more importantly, willing to do anything to curry favour,” he said, eyes twinkling.

Sitting again and with total impunity Willow picked up a pice and more or less stuffed it into her mouth. It was kinda nice to be around someone who knew her well enough not to have to nibble food like a normal person.

“Of course, using the NEs in such a fashion would be highly unethical, and you definitely shouldn’t turn them into a rotating gang of yeomen.”

With a laugh Willow considered. “Can you imagine? We could get them an old school yeoman uniform too.” She chuckled for another couple of seconds and then looked at him.

“So. What managed to finally pry you away from.Starfleet medical?”

Brad took another big bite from his slice and washed it down with a swig of the not-lager, clearly looking to but time to answer.

“I’ve been telling everyone it’s because I was bored, and that is part of it,” he said, before taking a deep breath and releasing it with a sigh.

“Honestly, about a year ago, I started to feel like I could be helping more people in a post like this instead of diagnosing and treating one case of an obscure or strangely-presenting condition a week in San Fran. Then this opportunity came up, and I couldn’t turn down the chance for a change while still working with at least one old friend.”

Willow smiled. “You know they have other less hectic posts. You could have done the teaching stint in more depth.” She teased as she munched the crust from her latest slice.

“I wanted more hectic, though,” Brad said. “Routine hectic, though, if that makes any sense. Where the illnesses and injuries are going to be a lot less random and easier to explain.” Brad paused to take a drink before elaborating, “A month before I left, an aide to the Council representative from Denon - Earth native, never even been further off planet than Mars - somehow came down with a parasite found only on an Andorian colony world, despite not interacting with any Andorian colonists or any Andorians at all for a month beyond the bug’s incubation period. Took the better part of three days of poring over his activities to figure out he’d picked it up after hooking up with a trader in a dive bar.”
