It was not, by any means, the grandest holodeck simulation ever. In fact, on first impressions, it could well have been passed off for a quaint historical affair. However, the attention to detail was exquisite. A smell of carbolic soap mixed with a mild hint of rusted iron hung in the air. The washstands and their tilled surrounds had been recreated with such care that it was clear that the architect had done some thorough research and ensured the programmer carried out his instructions to the letter. Yet this was nothing compared to the room that lay beyond the double doors. Only that would have to wait. The pre-operation procedures of the time needed to be adhered to, or what was the point.

Dr Jarvis strode up to the metal washstand and took a moment to admire the fixings. While he’d had every confidence in his research into Knickerbocker Hospital of New York, his initial appraisal of the NE programmer had sold the gentleman short. For a moment he stood and took in the stench of soap, disinfectant and… death. This was how real advancement was made, he thought as he rolled up the sleeves of his early 20th-century earth surgical gown, turned on the jet of water and picked up the carbolic soap. Doctor’s applying their research in practice to iron out the kinks. Yes, some lives would be lost. However, the speed at which advancements could be made meant that hundreds more would live. The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few after all. Suitably attired and prepared to the standards of the period, his gown more for the protection of his suit than sterility for the patient, he proceeded through the doors and into the operating theatre.

OOC: Ok so ‘barbaric’ surgery is about to go down in holodeck 2. If any of you guys want to watch or, dare I say it, get your hands bloody, feel free to jump in. Perhaps a Klingon school teacher might find it a suitable field trip opportunity.

Dr J. Jarvis M.D

OOC: A surgeon read the Klingon school teacher’s mind.
IC:

Echego presented the day without a schedule, but that was not uncommon for the Klingon teacher. Above structure, she valued competence; it was difficult to achieve proficiency when forced to abide by a schedule that did not suit the student’s academic needs. Thus, she followed the pace of her students, determining what lessons she would teach by how progressive they had been in their studies the day prior. It was disorganized by the opinion of others, but she found this method of teaching to be far more effective than others.

Today, she supposed her students could use less time cooped up in the confines of their school’s plain walls (and she, less time listening to their complaints).

“I should expect none of you grow nauseous at the sight of blood.” Echego remarked, although didn’t much care if they were. In most cases, such a primitive surgery would have been an inadvisable choice for a school field trip, but Em’ujo seized the opportunity for what it was worth: a proper history lesson. One that preferably didn’t end up in her students’ lunch caking the hospital floor. “Come,” she huffed, “the surgery will begin soon.”

This can only turn out entertaining. As Drake rounded the corner to approach the holodeck Jarvis was holding his surgery in, he found himself confronted by a fleet of children and a Klingon woman who was either their daycare operator or teacher, he had yet to confirm which. Delightful. He thought.

After they were all filed in, he entered and examined the scene. Historically accurate, if nothing else. Perhaps accurate to the point of becoming unsettling. He found a good place to sit. Leaning forward, he asked “Jasper the Ripper, what’s the surgery?”

-Dr Drake Marshall

Cai for his part did nothing when the teacher had guided the class out into the corridors and to the holodeck, he did however widen his eyes at the scene before him and as they climbed the stairs to the seats surrounding the operating theatre, as the name suggested, he found himself staring at historically accurately clad figure of Jasper and tripping over a couple of holographic medical students.

As he sat down on his bench. Slowly he pulled his ear buds out of his ears watching a waiting.

Adrian Sorel had been quite intrigued by a field trip to the holodeck, until he’d actually walked in and seen what awaited them that is. His features tightened and his eyes narrowed as his gaze flicked around the holodeck taking the scene in. His heart started to pound and his breath became short. He stopped for a few moments before turning and walking back out without a word.
